what would Fran's record be at this point?

Maybe. Probably also lose to Ole Miss or Grand Canyon.

In my opinion, there is no point playing this game. McCollum is trying to build something. He has repeatedly said it is going to take time. Time for him. Time for the guys.

Stirtz seems to be the whipping boy because we love going after our best players. He got beat plenty off the dribble tonight, struggled to score in the 1st half, and is still playing almost every minute He is clearly still adjusting. He is a good player and I believe will get it figured out. I'm a believer that he has to sit more but apparently McCollum doesn't see it that way. I'm not the coach...

Iowa has some really good, young pieces that can help in the future. I also believe that McCollum is dang near maximizing the potential of the guys we have. I still believe we are in good hands and can make the tourney.

We all wanted consistent effort and more consistency in games. I think we are getting that. We have been blown out in 1 game. Thats it.

Might be nearly the same record, but the close losses @ ISU, vs ILL and tonight are all embarrassingly blowout losses with FM as coach.

Unless his own team is blisteringly hot from distance in any or all of them.
A loss is a loss.

I doubt the players and coaches ever feel embarrassed

I mean no disrespect, but who cares?

Fran was here longer than Tom Davis. We are in year one of BMC. Pick a Fran season, and nearly all of them are as good or worse than the current one.

Also lost in the conversation is that most of Fran’s teams would have gotten blown out at Iowa State and Purdue. Given that every Iowa player this season is just learning how to play in the Big Ten, I don’t know how anyone can be too surprised where Iowa currently sits.

In Fran’s defense, I’d probably be in jail with some of the calls that have gone against Iowa this year
I don't think any calls this year are more egregious than the sh** that Fran brought upon himself because of his reputation and "relationship" with officials........

But I will say that there seems to be some "earning of his stripes" going on with the refs and McCollum.

There is the occasional "you're the new guy coaching at Iowa....you're not our master in East Lansing or his second in command in West Lafayette....just settle down and know your place newbie" kind of calls that go against Iowa in some of these games this year, though. And they're doing it just to see how McCollum reacts.

And yes this is a real f***ing thing these refs do (..........minus the worshipping at the altar of Izzo and Painter).

Why is it UIowa fans love to live in the past they swore never to return to? Football, basketball…makes no difference.
You ever divorced a complete RAG of a woman and end up in a relationship with an absolute 10 who is superior in every measurable way? You didn't even know bad it was until your situation did a 180 for the better. It's nearly impossible to not recognize the differences and be thrilled about your life's direction.

Anyone been following Fran's first season at Penn?
No
Nope that guy was embarrassing with his hot headed temper which I suppose he got from that crazed wife of his. That whole family is in a better place in Philly. Good riddance!
Fran probably had his temper long before the wife came along. That being said, I'm sure she's not helping the situation much

Wrong. He wouldnt have won at Indy and would have failed to adjust the last 10 minutes of the Rutgers game and lost that as well. McCollum is a massive upgrade. Just wait it out. We have one of the best coaches in the NCAA IMO.

you can’t tell me you see how his ex players perform elsewhere and not see how much he overperformed while at Iowa. Think about if he was able to have a roster full of athletes like Illinois or UNC.

I can actually. He has had tons of talent and basically did nothing when it mattered.

Garza, Murray twins, Uthoff etc....he was so bad in March he may as well have planned a vacation the week after the tourney opened.

The big difference is Fran didn’t ask his players to exert themselves on defense which elevated their offensive stats because they weren’t as tired.
