Why can't Iowa win on the road??

I realize that winning on the road is never easy but road wins are gold for our metrics. Iowa is one of two teams in the league without a road win. It was the same story last year. I don't understand why it's so damn difficult for Iowa to win on the road.

We’ve lost to 2 teams in the top 5 and Sparty who is 12. Minnesota is undefeated at home. Now if we lose every road game the entire season get back with me. What would most teams record be against the teams we’ve played on the road?

Minnesota lost to USC at home in OT last Friday and went to OT vs UWGB earlier in the season. That was a game we needed to win.

We won all our neutral site games. If only Mississippi and Grand Canyon were good...

At least Ole Miss won in OT over #21 Georgia.

The bottom line is the basketball and football teams are the same. Better than they were last year but still can't win the big game.

Football at least got one by beating Vandy at the end.

My bad. And yes, that was a game we needed. But to say we can’t win on the road when we’ve played the 2, 5 and 12 teams in the country is a little harsh. Let’s let the season play out here.

It's year one, It's Ben's first year at Iowa, Iowa wasn't not able to buy a seasoned big over 7 foot, and everyone that McCollum plays, is playing in the Big Ten and experiencing Big Ten officiating for the first time. still plenty of games left to make our presents felt.

Seriously... Thanks for the reminder lol, if we had blown that game I would be a very depressed Hawkeye fan right now instead of semi depressed and I still think we can do good things on the bball season starting on Saturday!

I could remind you that all the following games were single digit losses:

National Champion contender Indiana
National semi-finalist Oregon
10 win USC on the road
2nd ranked Iowa St. at Hilton
16th ranked Illinois
5th ranked Purdue at Mackey
Iowa St. women who were top 10 (now SUUUUCK. Just lost their 4th in a row)

What do those close losses get us?

Because you're Iowa. You'll always be mediocre even when your team has their birthday in their Super Bowl.

Just sucks and I feel your pain aa I thought this team was for real but it’s still young in the season but they definitely need some big wins and a winning streak that’s like 5/6 games in a row

Has our birthday? Who is our super bowl? Vandy? I'm confused.

I'm assuming this is another ISU fans because heaven forbid there is one social media post anywhere that goes without them saying something.

A team in the top 25 for wins this quarter century is at least good. Not elite by any means but well above average.

Z - People are commenting on the season that HAS played out to this point, clearly. No one knows how the rest of the season will go…

So, not squeezing out a road win to this point is disappointing (And losing AT HOME to a beatable Illinois).

Lastly: No one above said “Iowa can’t win on the road.”

People twist words and comments constantly, so, good job keeping up with that trend.

The title of the thread is why Cope’s win on the road? Lol. But Thanks for playing.

Ah, Purdue fan finally gets to talk smack because all their other programs suck. I acknowledge that Purdue basketball is way ahead of Iowa, but as usual I'm sure Purdue will choke in the NCAA Tournament again and not play to seed.

We have the exact same record as last year 12-5 so right now I wouldn’t say they are light years ahead.

I didn't say light years ahead but I don't think we had the toughness to even hang against 3 of the teams we lost to by single digits.

Bottom line is a loss is still a loss. Same with football.

I’m sure this is the year Iowa finally makes a Sweet 16 too, right? I mean we’ve been waiting 20+ years?

Do you watch the games? If so, the mystery should reveal itself. (Hint: It has to do with the difficulty of playing 8 on 5.)

Then maybe you don't know much about basketball. Who had Iowa played at this point last year? Did Iowa play defense or rebound last year? The same record doesn't mean the team is the same, not even close. This Iowa team has proven it can compete with the best teams in the country. When you lose by 4 to #2 on the road, that ain't bad. When you lead #5 on the road most of the game and lose by seven, that ain't bad.

Let's see what things look like heading into the NCAA tournament and beyond. How about that?

"Beatable" Illinois? Sure. That's why they're only ranked #13. LOL

BTW: Playing basketball (vs. Minny and Illinois) while you have the flu is a mitigating factor. Have you ever had the stomach flu? Can you imagine playing a Big Ten basketball game with those symptoms?

PU basketball is SO far ahead of Iowa that it took some late home-cookin' for the Boilers to survive an Iowa roster filled with Drake players. So congrats to PU for such a marvelous victory.

I am not sure what people expect, but Iowa is essentially starting a BIG program from scratch this year, If you did not think there would be ups/downs I do not know what to tell you. They played very well on #5 team's home court last night with a great deal of energy/toughness.

IMO they are improving and hopefully will be better sooner than later. Indiana IMO will be a very pivotal game.

Three losses already - one of which was AT home to Nebraska. Is that not "beatable?" It is.

I really hope you know Purdue should be a group of 5 team.
Everyone relax. I think Iowa could win at IU on Saturday or at Maryland. If not, well I guess the road losses will continue to pile up.

It's frustrating, some of the calls they're getting and not getting. They have to learn to close out games. You see it happen in the NBA as well. A team plays well until the 4th quarter and blows it. Control the things you can control. Two for example are fouls and turnovers. If you're not getting calls, then stay with taking care of the ball. Get sloppy and you lose.

Can’t turn the ball over when you’re up 9. Folgueiras bricking the front end down 1 was huge too, Purdue went down and scored right after. 4 point swing in the last 3 mins.
