This is why the posts that Sha can’t coach have dwindled to nothing since Hawaii. Just win baby.
Man this just ain’t it.Seton Hall has the worst offense (by far) of any team in the top 60 of KenPom. Of the top 90, only two teams are worse on the offensive end. Imagine if he could coach more than just half of the game? We might actually have something.
The other way of looking at that is how they are No 46 even with the poor offensive rating comparable to other teams in its KenPom neighborhood. The focus on defense has led to a top 10 ranking in that department. It’s unusual, but it is obviously working at this point of the season.Seton Hall has the worst offense (by far) of any team in the top 60 of KenPom. He has done a very good job. Nonetheless, i think comparing anything to the prior year is almost irrelevant in the era of transfer portal. We have an entirely different team. I think the point is that if you look at the rankings of this year's players (per the transfer portal rankings) he has really done more with less. In this era, you simply can't compare things YoY.And absolutely he should be in the running for National COY at this stage of the season. The team was 7-25 last year, NET #209, KP #206 to to 13-2 this year, NET #39, KP #46. That's crazy. Is there a better improvement out there? Genuinely wondering as idk.
Also good for the school after the hits it took last year on NIL funding, resources, etc.
Our grit and toughness on D definitely takes away from our offensive output.Holloway has a style, that's for sure. That streetball/physical defense approach could be sustainable with depth but @shu09 does have a valid point. We're seeing it already in the BE as we're pulling games out of the fire because our offense has been awful. It's an issue that will limit us. It's gotten much worse as the season has gone on; teams are playing us differently than in the non-conference and guys who started the season maybe shooting above their heads are coming back to Earth. This team is so reliant on generating turnovers too. We need the extra possessions because of the anemic offense.
It's unusual to to be 267th in 2PT%, 206th in 3PT% and 349th in % of points from 3 and survive the long haul in this day and age. It's working so far though.
the willard coaching tree, but this year we have results. gotta eat a crow for now.Seton Hall has the worst offense (by far) of any team in the top 60 of KenPom. Look at the big picture, not just one season. He has terrible offensive numbers in 7 of the 8 seasons he's been a head coach. The numbers do not lie.The other way of looking at that is how they are No 46 even with the poor offensive rating comparable to other teams in its KenPom neighborhood. Let's see him make the NCAA Tournament first. He's yet to do that in his time here. Right now they'd be in, but I don't think that'll be the case two months from now when it matters.the willard coaching tree, but this year we have results. gotta eat a crow for now.
No one is saying otherwise. But to this point in THIS season, it’s working very well. And the question posed was whether or not he deserves consideration for Coach of the YEAR.Look at the big picture, not just one season. He has terrible offensive numbers in 7 of the 8 seasons he's been a head coach. The numbers do not lie.
I've always hated streetball style basketball my entire life, so naturally I don't have a high opinion of the current coach. Give me a guy like McDermott who recruits quality shooters and runs a system that looks and feels good offensively.Holloway has a style, that's for sure. Coach of the Year isn't decided in January. Let's see what he does the rest of the way. If Seton Hall basketball was a stock, I'd be selling right now. Cash in while you can.No one is saying otherwise. But to this point in THIS season, it’s working very well. And the question posed was whether or not he deserves consideration for Coach of the YEAR.
Give me a 13-2 record. THAT is something for me. In fact, our record is all i really care about.Seton Hall has the worst offense (by far) of any team in the top 60 of KenPom. Of the top 90, only two teams are worse on the offensive end. Imagine if he could coach more than just half of the game? We might actually have something.
How we play is far from whai I consider street-ball. That to me is running up and down the court, playing flashy. Flashier the better. Skip to my loo kind of stuff. Try that with Sha LMFAOI've always hated streetball style basketball my entire life, so naturally I don't have a high opinion of the current coach. Again, no one is saying otherwise. The only problem with your stock analogy is there‘s no way you would have purchased the stock in the first place.Coach of the Year isn't decided in January. Coming off last year's disaster, I would have nibbled. Only place to go was up.Again, no one is saying otherwise. The only problem with your stock analogy is there‘s no way you would have purchased the stock in the first place.
Then this should wrap up your time on this forum. If there’s no where to go but down, and you’re an SHU fan (plus your years of saying you’re done with CBB), is there a reason to be on here to watch this supposed “burning ship”?Coach of the Year isn't decided in January. It's nice knowing I live rent-free in your head, but you don't get the analogy at all. Ever read Seth Davis' annual "stock report?" Clearly not. Then this should wrap up your time on this forum. Itbwas looking scary against Cu though. They were packing the paint and daring us to shootHolloway has a style, that's for sure. Idk whats considered "streetball". Thats always been an old white guy term. Top 10 defense is streetball? On offense its not as if we arent getting open shots. Just not knocking them down. Id hope wed play more inside out.I've always hated streetball style basketball my entire life, so naturally I don't have a high opinion of the current coach. Give me a guy like McDermott who recruits quality shooters and runs a system that looks and feels good offensively.
Whoever said mcdermotts style always works? Remembers hes had some great overall players in the past as well.I've always hated streetball style basketball my entire life, so naturally I don't have a high opinion of the current coach. The facts say it's not even a question. If you foolishly don't believe the facts, just watch his teams run offense. They're always moving, always getting clean looks. Then go watch a Shaheen Holloway offense (or Kevin WIllard for that matter). Night and day.Whoever said mcdermotts style always works? Remembers hes had some great overall players in the past as well.
Ordinarily yes. But outside of UCONN and at Creighton who exactly is unbeatable in the Big East? This is a far cry from where this league usually isIt's nice knowing I live rent-free in your head, but you don't get the analogy at all. Ever read Seth Davis' annual "stock report?" Clearly not.
Seton Hall is 13-2 with a bunch of cream-puff wins and two very lucky saves against Marquette and Creighton. Only four of the 13 wins would be considered quality. Of those four, only two of the opponents are currently projected as NCAA teams (one of them being the very last team in the field at this point). All of this, plus the predictive metrics showing a very poor offense, act as warning signs about trouble ahead. The peak of this season may very well be right now.
Our grit and toughness on D definitely takes away from our offensive output.
I don't know if its energy ,type of player , mindset or something else.
Are we willing to sacrifice a little D to increase our scoring?
Thats my thinking.
Or maybe that's now part of it? Roster assembly YOY. Otherwise without any consideration of such, just give it to the best team.He has done a very good job. Most teams play cream puffs in the beginning. 1 pt loss to USC as well. We will see in march but can we play the top of the BE b4 u render judgement. Id be pissed if u called my CU and MU wins "lucky" games are played 40 minIt's nice knowing I live rent-free in your head, but you don't get the analogy at all. Budd is able to get in lanes and create open shots. We just dont knock em downI think the offensive struggles are because of how he chooses to operate it. Danny Hurley is a great example of a coach who modified how he looked at offense vs. defense. Still a defensive guy but he went to work on the offensive side after his first few seasons at Connecticut.
What does Sha's offense do consistently?
**It does not value the 3PT shot whatsoever. Look at 3PA:FGA historically, one of the lowest in the country constantly. That automatically reduces the area teams have to defend. This area is way more extreme than Willard's teams here. It's a Sha thing. Look how Creighton and Villanova played us in those games. Marquette and Providence are bad defensive teams.
**It relies on a strong PG to create, guys like Richmond and Clark. Don't look at his BE record when Richmond got hurt in Year 1 or without a PG in Year 3. It's scary.
**Spacing and ball movement is very inconsistent. It gets worse when defenses sag because we do not reliably dump the ball into the post, rather relies on guys crashing to the rim and getting to the FT line. That's what I mean by "street ball".
I do think the offensive structure earlier in the year looked the best we've had but BE teams know us. Plenty of room for improvement, we're only 4 games into the BE.
Nobody is unbeatable. U called MU and CU wins lucky. Is uconns win against prov lucky? Or did uconn execute the final e min when prov was constantly pushing when they should have killed clockOrdinarily yes. But outside of UCONN and at Creighton who exactly is unbeatable in the Big East? This is a far cry from where this league usually is
Id like to see more inside outside sets. We habe bigs who can draw attention. Would be nice to see some easier 3s from the guys who are the better shooters. Handoff 3s are easier than off the dribble.I think the offensive struggles are because of how he chooses to operate it. Danny Hurley is a great example of a coach who modified how he looked at offense vs. defense. Judging by how you feel about Holloway and his system, I have a really, really hard time believing that.Coming off last year's disaster, I would have nibbled. Only place to go was up.
