I don't see any of them being an AA but certainly nice pieces that can be drafted.

Well Vonnahme is for damn sure on that trajectory. He's a redshirt freshman to boot.

The kid was Iowa's leading receiver, and came out of nowhere in the 2nd half of the season. Putting up 146 and TD in the Bowl Game.

That wasn't luck, the kid appears to have "it", and he's got time to prove it. He made himself a lot of money in the last 6 games or so.

Sadly, if he didn't have an Agent before the Bowl, he damn sure does now. $$$

I didn’t see it either at first, didn’t think he was as athletic as some of the other studs but he’s really blossomed since the second half of the Oregon game. Seems to have his confidence exploding.

Im optimistic the offense will be even better next year but it really depends on filling out the Oline. I just have a feeling Hecklinski is going surprise us all in a good way for a change ha

Well unfortunately I'm never optimistic about the Offense anymore, but I hope you're right. 🙂 It was pretty darn good and balanced against Vandy though.

Another observation that I'm not sure is correct, but seemed like Vonnahme had very few drops if any. We've had some reliability issues with WR's for awhile on that front obviously. Ole Miss had quite a few drops in that awesome game last night. (don't think it cost them much in the end, but it wasn't good for a bit)

Anyway, Vonnahme sure looks the part to me, and his interview after the Bowl Game was humble, articulate and just came across as a great kid who has his stuff together. Under no circumstances should this kid NOT be TE1 at the start of next season.

Hope the kid loves being a Hawkeye, because he made the AP All Bowl team to boot, and in this day and age any Scout/Coach who sees that Vandy game especially you know damn well he'll be tampered with. 😡 (and he may never replicate that game, but he's solid as all get out) At 6'4" 240 lbs he's got the size and ability, and unless Kirk somehow screws it up, this kid is a lock to be an NFL player down the road IMO.

Hope Kittle, LaPorta, Hockensen are paying attention and they can collaborate to send some cash Iowa's way to keep Vonnahme around. 🙂

it is probably an oversimplification to extrapolate those numbers (i.e., multiply 434 times two) because I think most of it came 2ndhalf of the season. but, if he can keep it up, they are verygood numbers. I think I commented somewhere else that he reminds me of Hockenson: anIowa kid not highly regarded who came on as a redshirt freshman, and the rest is history. hoping for more of the same.

TE is STACKED for next year - this guy is going to be the next AA TE aa we are Tight End U
I think stacked is under selling it. If we don't run a formation with two TE's standing straight up to pay homage to Hayden Fry, Marv Cook and Scott Slutzker I will be sad.....that is until Tim Lester uses his sorcery and DJ scores a 90 yard TD. Then I will not be sad any more.

Nothing is guaranteed, but where do you see DJV having deficits that would warrant that level of skepticism?

I'm not sure why everyone is after me for saying that I don't think he will be an AA but he will be drafted. That is a very, very high bar. Just in watching Sadiq right now at Oregon or the TE from Vandy and I just don't think he is quite at that level. He is only a freshman so he has time to get better, for sure.

Also, until late in the season, the TE's were not primary targets. Last year we had Lachey and he was hardly targeted. He had a ton of promise early on but never seemed to get to the level we all hoped. Yes, injuries did not help.

Finally, I am excited for Hecklinski or Brown but I just want to see more consistency from this position. We don't sling it around as much as other teams do.

Think about his production the latter half of the year? If he continues at this pace he will be an AA… he might be the best TE next year in the BT… we aren’t TE U for no reason so I beg to differ

I’m not trying to get on your case, I am just curious what you think his deficits are that would limit his potential from reaching that level.

Nothing is guaranteed.

But what I have seen so far is nothing short of impressive. I haven’t seen a TE at Iowa that size move that fast in the open field since…Dallas Clark. To be clear, I am not saying he is Dallas Clark. What I am saying is I see nothing at this time that would limit DJV from reaching AA status, especially since most teams don’t utilize TEs the way Iowa does.

Lachey appears to be on the Texans practice squad, so good for him. Aside from his injury, I did feel Iowa didn't utilize him the way they should have when he came back, so at least to me that's more on Iowa than it was Lachey. Hopefully he can get his shot and stick on a NFL 2-deep roster.

Hope they keep finding targets for Vonnahme, he's obviously shown he can deliver when given the opportunity. The other TE's have shown flashes, so hopefully they can step up when more teams concentrate on Vonnahme, which they surely will from here on out.

I didn't think he looked terribly athletic at first but his speed is deceptive. He ran a 11.27 100 in HS. That is pretty impressive for a big guy. Sadiq from Oregon was right in that range.
He definitely came on strong late in the season. If he continues on his trajectory, he will be an early-round draft pick.

He did miss a big block in the bowl game nobody seems to have noticed. I believe it lead to a Grownoski sack?
