Sorry to see any newspaper shut down. It's the best way to get factual information. Ticktock is a opinion source not a news outlet.
You are a lot more optimistic then myself. For me every news source out there is now op-ed. Half truths, quotes out of context, etc. Print media, social media, dinosaur news stations they have all gone the way of op-ed. True journalism died decades ago. Newspapers unfortunately have gone the way of dinosaurs. It's an electronic world. I always enjoyed buying and reading a newspaper.

Valley News Dispatch and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette were my daily periodicals for over a decade when I lived in Pittsburgh.

Another one bites the dust. I'll be joining the trend at some point.

The Pittsburgh Press was our go to Sunday Paper, that and the Tribune Democrat from Johnstown.
So does Pittsburgh have a daily paper now?

Don’t think so. I remember when PPG and The Trib were going head to head; now, no idea. City Paper (Block owned) also shut down recently.

The Tribune Review leans right but is more than capable of filling the void.

(Above is Link to today's Trib online)

"“Over the past 20 years, Block Communications has lost more than $350 million in cash operating the Post-Gazette."

Seth Meyers is such a Pittsburgh fan he actually did a skit using a Yinzer accent with Paris Hilton on SNL.

I start every morning, wherever I am, with coffee and the Post-Gazette sports page. This is very sad news. Feel for the writers and other employees too.
Sorry to see that.

Haven't lived in Pittsburgh area for many years but favorite memories as a youngster with starting every day by absorbing all of the PG Sports pages.

Loved the details of the Pirates (,this was the Clemente, Groat, Mazeroski era) and then a special treat on Saturdays in the fall with all the high school football scores and stories. Western PA football was special.

I think we got the Press because Dad thought it had better sports coverage and The Tribune Democrat because they covered Penn State better. Also thats where we got the weekly TV guide paper.

When the Post Gazette started the partial week publishing (at first 5 days/week), I asked the TR about subscribing, they would not deliver to the easternmost Allegheny County suburb.

Then I when the PG knocked another day (or more?) off publishing, I said F-it and cancelled.

Miss having an actual newspaper to read.

I haven’t picked up a newspaper in years.

I typically visit CEOExpress and graze the newspapers and magazines that they link to. It’s great to find them collected there for easy access. Both domestic and international sites I’ll visit when a place or topic is in the news.

BTW, CEOExpress is a site I have used for years. They collect links to other sites that you might use for news, business, reference, government, investments, and many other areas of interest. It’s nice to have a spot where these are collected for me, rather than having links clutter up my home screen.

They have kept their screen format unchanged for years. Very old school with just the information and no unnecessary graphics.

Major bummer. I delivered the PPG in the mornings before school during the 60’s in the cold winters, steamy summers and past the meanest Chow down one street that I prayed daily would not break his chain. The Christmas tips were worth it though.

And they are all out of jobs. Pyrrhic victory at best. I'm not sure how much good workers rights do you if you are not actually, you know, working...

I travel all over the world for work and fun. For decades, I started every day with coffee, light breakfast, and the local paper - wherever I was…Pittsburgh has been home most of my life, so more days than none, the PPG was the paper of choice.

But this habit started to die years ago and this seems to be one of the final nails in the coffin.

Best substitute I have found are the “Real Clear” web offerings…editors insure a balanced 360 degree view of most topics.

But alas, any “local” flavor is gone.

The death of journalism will lead to the end of democracy.
There is still plenty of good journalism. It's just that very little of it is done by large media companies. Here's a link to a non-profit website that has more details about COVID origins than I saw in all big media combined.

https://usrtk.org/category/covid-19-origins/

I actually gave this website $100 once and I may give more in the future because I think they do valuable work. OTOH I get emails from the PPG all the time saying something like I can get three months for 99 cents and I ignore them.

I subscribed to the virtual edition of the PPG once a few years ago. One thing that annoyed me was all the national and international news. I can get that anywhere. I wanted Pittsburgh area news. Maybe it's more cost effective for them to be like that because to do local news they have to send a human out to get it whereas with national and international news they just pay some to the AP or whoever. I don't know.

If anyone knows of any good Pittsburgh area publications, virtual or real, that focus on Pittsburgh area news please let me know.

My first employer, delivered newspapers to the door in the neighborhood by5:30 each morning. Mybest friend next store delivered the Pgh. Press.
Our brothers took over the routes when we found other sources of incomes, big time jobs @ Eat’n Park! We look back and say, Our 2 families ”controlled the media” in our township for over 17 years!😁
