According to NY Times here is the cost of doing business in the portal this yr.

QB: $1M to $4M
OT: $600K to $1.3M
RB: $400K to $900K
WR: $500Kto $1M
TE: $300K to $900K
Edge rushers: $500K to $2M
Interior DL: $500K to $1.5M
Corners: $250K to $1M
Safeties: $250K to $900K

Crazy to think how fast the sport has changed in a few short years.

There are different strategies. Some of these teams who always try to add the shiniest toy will see recruiting suffer when kids see they will be signed over.

I'm fine with Iowa's strategy of getting portal guys at area of need where we are thin or guys moved on.

This. Continuity/retention of players has value in an era of mass migration and roster turnover IMO….. so long as the guys retained are progressing according to expectations.

The key then is to recruit portal players who can buttress units which need depth. The Ferentz/Parker/Lester doctrine appears to be that transfers in must not only be skilled but also must have that type of character to fit the team-first mold. So long as Lester and Parker get the players they want who cares where they previously played.

I wonder if Iowa is waiting to see if the Georgia punter that came out of Iowa goes in the portal after Georgia finishes off their Playoff run, Ithink the portal window is extended for those Teams till the 24th .

No they’re not. KF is on record multiple times saying he prefers to make sure his existing roster gets paid first, then go into the portal looking for talented guys at the lower levels that are talented and hungry to move up rather than retreads from other P4 schools.

You can disagree with that philosophy, but we ain’t broke…far from it.
