Cartel Book Recommendation

I am making a different post because this deals with books and Mexico, but if you are looking for a book to learn about the rise of Cartels I recommend The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow. He spent over 6 years on research and tells the story of the DEA involvement with War on Drugs. It is a three book series, but pretty accurate to what happen.

Yeah, the Power of the Dog Trilogy was great and all three books were very easy reads.

I thought 1 & 2 were great. I think book 3 was just a money grab. Still good but not in the league of the first 2.

I’m not a book guy, so I love Narcos. I’m sure they take liberties with the stories but reading about the Kiki Camarena stuff it seems fairly accurate. I’m hoping they keep going with it because it ended with the rise of Chapo.

I think they were working on another season. The crew who went to scout locations ended up getting killed by the cartel. That slowed production.

If you thought season 1 sucked then I guess it doesn’t get better. I know everyone is sick of Pascal and his weird shít, but him, Biyd Holbrook, and the guy that plays Pablo are great. In the later seasons there is fantastic acting as well.

Don’t let facts get in the way of a good story

Old, but still one of the clearest and best, Scott brilliantly researched book illuminates the underlying forces that drive U.S. global policy from Vietnam to Colombia and Afghanistan and Iraq. Not about cartels, but I just finished "Tin Men" by the late Nelson DeMille and his son, Alex DeMille. Good read.

If you are into the drug story thing listen to the first season of “Deep Cover” podcast. It’s takes some unreal turns with drugs in the US, Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee, all the way to Pablo N. Great listen.
