There is so much money available now that last year’s prices in the article posted are not even close to what players are going to get this year. And it also seems like Rutgers should have money to spend as well. As we hear somewhere in the $8-9 mil already raised plus almost $12-15 M from revenue sharing.
And it shows as we did offer $1 for Strong.
It seems he just decided, “how the F do I improve my stock here with an unproven QB, and I’m tired of being happy with 6 wins”
As for his skills. When you watch film, he already does what the NFL looks for. He runs good routes, catches everything, gets at the ball and catches with his hands. He may not have breakaway speed but he doesn’t embarrass himself there either. And he has NFL size.
Out of Rutgers, there is a chance he is a day 3. If he goes to one of the elites, his exposure goes up significantly. And he is at least a round 3.
mans he gets to have much more fun.
The NIL number is higher, that $8-9m was a preliminary number.

Ian's best attribute may be the way he uses his body to shield defenders from the ball. For a guy who didn't practice much as a WR in HS, he does it incredibly well and it allows him to catch so many contested balls. I said during the season that Duff needs to learn to do this more and he'll be unstoppable.

While the unproven QB theory is the talking point right now, there's just as great a risk in moving for him. He may not fit well in another system or he could wind up being told he's going to start on a team with lots of better WRs than RU and find out he's the 3rd or 4th guy after the spring.

Well see if he improves his draft stock much, he was trending towards a Day 2 pick until the injuries and Duff's emergence as WR1. A lot on the line for him with this move.

If a team is going to bring him in for over $1 mil...and he has obvious skills- he will not be sitting on a bench much at all. Strong really is a "great WR" - if healthy, he would be a number 1 on most teams. This will be the key for him- staying healthy. I am actually not too upset at the young man at all. We all thought he was going to the NFL, so, we didn't expect him back. And we all would have been shocked to hear him say he was going to stay an additional year here. But, it is a bummer as he is a special talent that we had the opportunity to see develop here.

IMHO, everybody is worried about the wrong s***. We could have two KJ Duffs, two Ian Strongs and 3 Antoine raymonds and we still wouldn't be any better off than we are now. We need lineman on both sides of the ball! Average skill positions could do okay with good linemen. Even though I think we have above Average skill position players.

Unofficial word was RU had somewhere around at least $8-10 M last year. Unofficial word is Keli has sifnidi improved that amount. Strong was woth that amount, but we will likely see him leave where his talents will be on display on a bigger stage with an experienced QB.

What about revenue share? Isn't that alone approx $15m for football alone?

Yeah keep running with this argument for 5 years

What promising players have been "poached" from Rutgers?
Jalen Miller? Woolf? Derek Simpson? Chol?

Cam Spencer was a transfer in.
We poached him first from a lower level team.

Clif? He was a graduate transfer - just like has been occurring for decades.
And his leaving wasnt exactly met with doom and gloom.

We had a starting QB "Rutgers Guy" in Wimsatt. Schiano (and mostly everyone) jumped with joy at bringing in someone to replace him.

Cliff wasn obviously a loss.

Gavin was addition by subtraction. IMO, he should have been let go sooner and they should have focused more on Snyder and Simon, who were not world besters but had higher ceilings

Yes, it's around that amount but everyone is spending similar amounts. It's the NIL side where they make up ground since revenue share is capped.

Well, with Duff and Ray announcing they are returning, kudos to Greg and the staff

100%. How can anyone laugh at that? Look, we don’t know what went down behind the scenes but it clearly would not have been a wise business decision for us to get into double bidding wars to keep 2 wide outs. From the outside looking in, it seems entirely possible this went down exactly as Greg planned / calculated it would. I’m sure we went through the motions of making very nice up front offers to both Strong and Duff but Greg clearly could not promise two guys option 1 rep counts and had to know keeping them both was probably a long shot. He gets an A in asset management of this situation for now if the musical chairs stick. Now we have to see what happens with DC.

From the beginning I thought we were losing Strong. Truthfully I thought it was to the NFL, but I never expected him back. He is chasing a big payday.

My call was 2/3 of the big 3 were back and we ended up there which is awesome.

If we really offered 1mm and he is rated as a day3 WR, he is crazy to not take it. The only way he improves his draft status is by running a good 40.

A key for Strong's NFL draft position will be his speed; he doesn't appear to be a speed burner. To me he looks similar to Jawan Jennings of the 49ers - which is a solid, long and productive NFL career.

There are no certifications for “agents” either. It can be someone “legitimate” per se or someone like your roommate, both things I’ve heard mentioned in pods.
Parents too sometimes....although I've heard that they mostly get in your face.

Yea I think that’s the thing that is most needed. Certify agents or advisors prior to a major scandal.

College football programs everywhere are dying a slow death. Every CFP game is highlighting impact players that were pulled from the portal. If there are P4 teams that have their players poached imagine what’s happening to the irrelevant conferences. And It won’t be long before the bowl games disappear. Nobody cares about them anymore because of the CFP and attendance is a joke. The sponsors will bail. Schools don’t even want to go. Bowl games used to mean something. Now they are just a sign of failure and pointless.
Have you seen the TV ratings? The non playoff ESPN games ratings were up 13 percent with an average viewership of 2.7 million. For comparison sake the average rating for a ESPN college basketball game last year was 981,000. In the regular season the tv ratings were way up. It has been trending that the past couple of years. People keep claiming people don’t care anymore but the truth is they still do.

This is a question. It's been a nasty stretch of weather this year during the nonplayoff games this year. I don't remember last year being as bad. Are ratings up because people have been stuck inside?

Losing Strong is less about money and more about our staff not having a QB ready for next year. Too many missed opportunities this year to get AJ some playing time.

Unproven QB on a losing program with no DC or staff and lame duck HC.

Decision was simple
Yep, that's why Duff and Raymond stayed. Love the clown show that you are, stay true to yourself.

Happy they stayed but everything I said is still true. We still have an unproven QB and No DC or staff.

Strong is trying to get his draft stock up so he wants a proven QB on a winning team.

it’s ok to recognize the above and be happy Duff and Raymond stayed .

So far he's visited Cal and going to ND, ND's schedule is pure dog :poop: in 2026. If you want to improve your stock you want to do it against better competition than that to prove your worthy of a higher draft grade..

ND will give him the eyes he needs . They are vastly better then us and well well more respected then us on the National level so it makes sense.

Yeah, because the NFL doesn't draft you if you're from a small school...oh wait.

Some of you guys are ridiculous. If Strong stays and has 600 yards / 4 TD’s or goes to ND and has over 1,000 /15 TD’s, what is better for him to be drafted? ND schedule is fine for him to move up on the draft board. Still comes down to his combine on how high he can go.

This^^^
As for the combine- here is the thing…everyone loves seeing the 40 time, the vertical and for the big uglies, the reps on the life.

but, as long as you don’t completely surprise someone in a bad way on those, it is the agility, drills and interviews along with film that secures your fate.
But consider Strong…not elite speed and on a normal day, maybe a 4.5 -4.7 but after specialized combine training, don’t be surprised if he finds his way much closer to a 4.4

With the RB's they have he might not have played at ND.
