Knocked Switzerland 🇨🇭 off our list …
next up Costa Rica, then Norway in ‘26
Zermatt. Plan to climb that bad boy in the background some day. Hiked to the Hornlihutte on the right flank back in 1991 in a tshirt and running pants - worst sunburn of my life - even burned the roof of my mouth from the reflection off the snow

We did the Five Lakes hike off Sunnegga - which was rated as “easy/moderate” - it was pretty brutal for a fit 60yr old

Haven’t been able to really travel (I.e. go anywhere for more than a week) in years and nothing for almost 2 years due to my son’s condition. The only way I can travel is to arrange for 24 hour sitter and that clocks in at about $500-600 per day. This year I’ve decided to suck up the cost and take some time because I’ll go insane otherwise.

Still need to stay somewhat close due to keeping my trips short but plan to continue my effort to visit every Canadian province. Thinking Newfoundland in June for Iceberg spotting and the Yukon in September for Northern lights and glacier flights. Love Canada

Annapolis for our twentieth and again for the semiquinncentennial. My wife's birthday is 7/5 so we usually rent a waterfront balcony room at the Marriott there and sip tequila drinks when we're not eating steaks , crab cakes , and other good food.

Our anniversary is 5/20 and I was confused why the hotel won't cost so much. Then I realized that we got married on May 20 which is right around commissioning we get the naval Academy.

Oh well, O'Leary's will still be great anyway. We just have to make sure we get reservation reservations early enough to beat the graduation week busyness .

All of these with my wife of 42 years (43 in March):
Flying to the San Diego area for a week or so in March for my mother’s 99th birthday.
Flying in April to Manchester (1 night) and from there heading to the Yorkshire Dales (4 nights) and then the Lake District (2 nights); after a couple of days in Manchester will head to Krakau for 4 nights; finishing up with 4 weeks in Calabria, Italy.
In late August flying to Vancouver to start our Alaska cruise on Celebrity, then flying back home from Anchorage.
In late September, a return trip to Calabria for 3-4 weeks.

The above are (God willing) for sure. In addition, we may drive to Maine for 4-5 days in July, hopefully will make it to State College for a football game in the fall, and are contemplating a quick winter getaway this January or February if the winter weather gets to be too much here in Allentown.

Enjoy your travels, everyone!

Just a recommend for anyone venturing to Costa Rica, The Pacuare Lodge. The lodge is Smack dab in the middle of the jungle on a hillside over looking the Pacuare. The only way to reach the lodge is to raft in ( maybe there is a road now? We have not been for over 10 years ) on the Pacuare.

The Pacuare is a rain forest jungle river that has Class 3 and 4 rapids and is a blast. Takes a day to raft in, and a day to raft out. The Lodge is very cool, and the guides/ activities and dining are excellent. All locals.

As it rains here most days, you can watch the Pacuare raise and lower during the course of storms.

Have a few thoughts on what to do this year.....and hoping to steal other people's ideas ;)

1. Going to Red Rocks in Colorado in June to see Brit Floyd at Red Rocks. Always wanted to go to Red Rocks. Will make it into a M/C trip aw well - rent a MC at Denver Airport and then hit up some good mountain roads in the Rockies.
2. Whenever the PSU/Washington game is scheduled, I am going to go to Seattle for the game. That will leave just Autzen for my Big 10 Road Trips.
3. Planning another M/C trip, probably in August or early Sept to Maine. Will try to get in a round at Sunday River Resort (luckily they rent clubs so I don't have to ship mine).
4. Since I worked through Christmas on a project, will probably look to do some quick trip to Caribbean in late Jan/early Feb.

edit
5. May do a Family Pub Crawl in either NYC or London. Since I have relatives throughout the world either NYC or London would make for a good meeting place for my boogie-*** family. 😏

My sons are taking me to Scotland to play some golf in May.

A college trip for accepted students day to Stony Brook or University of Rhode Island or University of Maine (honors, presidential scholarships at all 3) for D3.

weekend up to PA for moms birthday

Thinking about doing a family converge at Jackson Hole this summer. We love it there. The AKB was helpful the last time we went - good suggestions.

Wifey and I are headed to Italy for 2 weeks in May. Past couple years have included the Southwest US Canyons tour and an Alaskan cruise.
We are planning one "big" (for us) trip per year for the next 10 years, taking us through our 70s, health and happenstance willing. Italy, Yellowstone general area trip, Canadian Rockies, Ireland/Liverpool, Mediterranean are among the highlights of that list. Hopefully, we make all or at least most happen.

Some years will have additional smaller trips. Oregon game in 2027. Maybe other away games as well. Baseball tours to states/parks not yet visited. National Parks. That kind of thing. It's fun to plan it out, better when it comes together.

Fingers crossed.

Interesting. I've been to the majority of the states, and at one time I had a goal of getting to all of them. But I seem to have dropped that, and want to get to a lot of places around the globe. (I have a buddy that made a goal of playing golf in all 50 states, and finally accomplished that in the past 2 years.)

From your bucket list, Iceland, Galapagos, and Machu Picchu are high on our list as well.

Headed for our annual Cancun trip early march 10 days….lucky to have use of friends condo each year. Head to Avalon June thru August to escape Texas heat each year. Spend time mostly in Avalon with a week or so at my Sisters home in Rehoboth Beach. Then back to Texas. Spent a great deal of my childhood in Avalon….so a nice feeling to re-connect each year with friends/ relatives etc.

Taking our Class B motor home from Sarasota to my daughter’s home in Livermore, CA. Then from there to drive up the Pacific Coast highway to Oregon. Rest of the trip planning is in progress.

In the fall we are traveling to Italy to do a tour of the medieval towns and villages of Abruzzo. My great grandparents came from that area.
Did Abruzzo this summer. Used Sulmona as headquarters for 19 days. Great place.

Sulmona is going to be our HQ for our trip. Hope to get to Agnone, located immediately adjacent to Abruzzo, the town my great grandparents were from. They were poor sheepherders and my great grandfather ended up working in the foundry of one of the steel mills in Youngstown, Ohio.

Going to Norway in Feb. for a week for northern lights.
Spring - most likely Costa Rica. I've been there before. It's an easy trip and we want to go back.
Germany - Octoberfest - not totally planned but it's looking likely
usual family trip to the Delaware Shore this summer
usual family trip to finger lakes for half a week over the summer
At least one PSU away game

Should be a good year.

We did Iceland this fall. Let me know if you want any tips.

We were originally planning Peru this year but I haven't done enough research to book yet and entrance tickets are on sale now so I'll probably push that a year or two.

All dependent on what my work situation is for 2026 but what I'd like to do...

Already doing -- college hoops trip next week to Wisconsin/Marquette/Sparty/Michigan
Want to do -- Banff for the 2nd time but stay longer than last time to do a few things I didn't do when I was there in '22. Also cracking the 50 barrier in April and trying to figure out what to do. A round at Pebble would be ideal but I don't think my connections are that good to make it happen.
College hoops trip seems really cool. great idea. Was it hard to put together? You flying from where to where? Then driving? Would love to hear details.

It's something I've done a number of times over the last 10 years. So here's the rundown of what I've done. My base is Orlando.

2016 -- Fly from Orlando to RDU. Go to games at Duke (same day as Big Ten win vs Wisky), UNC, and Wake in consecutive days. Fly RDU to Louisville then drive to Lexington for Kentucky game. Drive next day to Murfreesboro for Vandy-Middle Tenn. Drive next day to Indy for Butler game at Hinkle. Stayed with friends there for the weekend and then flew back to Orlando on Monday.

2017 -- Went to the PK80 over Thanksgiving in Portland. Easy travel for that one.

2018 -- Went to LA for tripleheader at Staples Center followed by a game the next day at UCLA. Able to knock that one out in a weekend.

2020 -- Just before COVID hit, flew from Orlando to Tulsa and then drove from there to Fayetteville for a Hogs game. Next night, drove to Stillwater for a OSU game (they had 2 inches of snow hit and no one knew what to do so it was sit-where-you-want night). After that, went to a UCONN-Tulsa game and followed that up with a run to Norman and then flew out of Tulsa back to Orlando.

2022 -- Flew Orlando to Columbus and then drove to Dayton for a game there. After game, drove to Cincy and stayed overnight before going to a game there. Next day, drive Cincy to Ann Arbor (still a *****) for my base the next 2 days as I went to a game at Detroit (and watched Antoine Davis put up a 39 spot) and then was going to Michigan St-Michigan but it got wiped by COVID issues. So I then drove back to Columbus for an Ohio State game and flew out of there.

2024 -- Flew Orlando to Midway and drove to Champaign for a game at Illinois. Next day, drove back up I-57 thru Chicago on my way to South Bend for a Notre Dame game. Went from there to East Lansing to visit Sparty then drove down to Indy to stay with those same friends and went to a Butler game and an IU game.

This week -- Flying Orlando to Milwaukee and then driving to Madison for UCLA-Wisky. Driving the next day to Milwaukee for X-Marquette. Thursday is the challenge where I gotta go allllllll the way around the damn lake to get to East Lansing (where's that bridge?) for NW-Sparty. Friday, I'll drive to Detroit and stake the tent there and probably go to Cleveland State-Oakland that night and then hopefully the ticket price comes down for Wisky-Michigan on Saturday before flying back early Sunday.

It first started with 'where do I want to see a game?' and that first year, I was able to whack 4 big ones off the list. I'll take a look at schedules in early October once everyone is finalized and I'll pick out a week in January (mainly due to work stuff and because conference games are much better competition) and see what can match up geographically. I want to try to do it with no more than one full flight and I don't really mind driving. And then it's figuring out what makes sense and that there's a game every day because I may be in spots where there might not be all that much going on in January. Last year, I had a Utah-Gonzaga-Wazzu-BYU one mapped out but didn't do it because I was going through some work transitions and didn't feel right pulling the trigger on it. Gonzaga and Arizona are really the only places that I really want to target but geographically, they're tough to put together. But it's a lot of fun for me to plan and cobbling together airline routes, hotels, which cities make sense, etc. I also didn't 'JUST' do basketball on these trips. In 2017, I went to Autzen for the Civil War. 2018, I hit up the Nixon Library. 2020, it was a trip to the OKC Memorial Museum and in 22, I randomly discovered the US Air Force Museum in Dayton and wish I had 2 more hours to go through it (HIGHLY RECOMMEND).

May head up there, and spend some time up that way fishing/ stocking up the freezer with Salmon and Halibut.
Then again, I dislike traveling that far. 🤔

1) Overnight in Seattle to split the flight

2) the fishing in Cook Inlet is easy but not as ridicuously easy as driving over to Seward and catching a charter. If you want, they'll bait your hook and you simply drop your line in the water. Minutes later you have either a salmon or halibut depending on how far you dropped your bait.

Wow, that is awesome. Thank you for sharing. I would love to try to put something together like this As I have a list of arenas that I want to go to.

I go to every penn state football game, Home and Away. Have not missed one in 8 years and have not missed a home game since 1996. In last 370 PSU fb games played, I have seen 327 in person. Have also gone to FEW OTHER PLACES when we had a bye that were cool.

Havevpsu basketball season tickets, but don’t mind missing. Would love to get to Rupp, Fog Allen, Cameron, Assembly Hall, Mackey, Ames, Gonzaga, Arizona, Louisville, dean dome to name a few. Have seen games at Breslin Center, Crisler and LSU.

I would say for the really big places like Kentucky, Kansas, Duke, Carolina to hit those during non-conference play, especially when the students are gone. Yeah, the game is probably going to suck but tickets will likely be easier to come by. After that first trip when I sat through a bunch of 20 & 30-point blowouts, I decided to try it during conference play for better games. The other challenge is winter travel and *knock on wood* I haven't had to deal with any snow situations at the northern sites. I had kicked around a Texas trip this year but the scheduling just didn't work. At some point, I'll probably stick closer to the home base and go with something in the SEC but there's a bit more driving there.

The arena and the atmosphere isn't all that great. The Carolina Basketball Museum is a must-see, though, if you're a historian of the game.

We were hoping to see a show a Red Rocks too, but have no idea who the people are that are scheduled while were there. We will miss you by a week, but our main reason for going is driving to Moab to explore Arches and Canyonlands NP for our 30th. It's on the wife's bucket list so I figured we better go while we can hike!
