OT: Whittingham to Michigan

Following the Sherrone Moore debacle, the full culture reset Whittingham will provide is just what Michigan needs.

With a 5 year contract UM and at Whittingham’s age this seems to be a transitional move. Will be interesting to see what other efforts Mich will make to clean up their program. They should at least dump their AD.

From the talking heads here on local radio here in Michigan, he wasn't retiring, but he was being forced out by the PE partner that just put all that money into Utah football/athletics.

It looks like he will be bringing his OC with him, which will be major. Even if it is transitional, if things work out well, that guy may be a great person to transition to.

It looks like he will be bringing his OC with him, which will be major. Even if it is transitional, if things work out well, that guy may be a great person to transition to.

If the coach brings his OC along that would make sense in terms of succession planning. All depends on how successful they are. (Remember the Brady Hoke hire by UM which was a disaster and was a good example of the Peter Principle.) I guess UM will always have Biff to fall back to!

A coach who keeps the job for five years at a pressure cooker like Michigan isn't transitional. And if he is as successful as I think he will be, if he wants he could keep it for another five. Terrific hire.

Whittingham is really an exceptional coach who has been able to adapt his teams to different playing styles over 20+ years and still had his teams at the top of any conference they played in. He is known for running a clean program with integrity. With the resources to go after top players and the added prestige of a blue blood program, he will be capable of doing so much more. That is why I really really hate this move. I rather have had them make Biff their permanent replacement.

Isn’t coaching in the B10 in 2027. Whatever team hires him (and it speaks volumes that Wisconsin couldn’t afford to), will be competitive and really fun to watch.

He spoke the truth. That program is rotten to the core and all roads lead back to Jim Harbaugh.

Lucked (esp concerning the timing) into a great hire.

Despite all the chatter about DeBoer, Whittingham Is a better fit (sticking to the physical style of play).

Interesting enough, if Beck follows Kyle to UM, that will mean seeing a familiar type of O, the running spread O (updated w/ RPO, etc).

Funny how that'll mean that both dOSU and UM will be running updated versions of what the Cats used to run under Walker/Wilson.

As an aside, when talking heads like Cowherd scoffed at the chances of the Cats beating UM this season, his "father", Klatt clapped back and stated that the Cats had a good chance for winning if they mucked up the game (which they did, but couldn't pull off the win).

That may have been the best chance to beat UM for a while (going to be tougher for Fitz as well).

Interesting enough, one reason why Whittingham made the change in scheme (from a pro-style) is that the spread, while a diverse O, is easier to learn.

The pro-style that Utah had been running is more difficult to learn and when the starting QB goes down (like has been the case for Utah), the season usually goes with it.

This is why didn't think McC's read&react O made much sense either.

Yea, Michigan fell *** backwards into a MAJOR head coaching upgrade. They also don’t have to pay Sherrone Moore’s buyout after firing him for cause after his infidelity and insane meltdown.

Michigan is proof that, for some, it is better to be lucky than morally good.

Another season where NU could and arguably should have beaten Michigan but simply failed to. It won’t be easier now that Whitt is there. He’s a damn good coach.

As had stated, DeBoer wasn't a good fit (plus, why would you want a coach you've beaten twice?) and think after the Indiana thumping, UM fans (many of whom are delusional about their program having character and integrity) are feeling much better about having Whittingham fall into their lap.
