The pressure on these coaches is enormous. Clearly Cooley lost it for a moment and hit a fan with the bottle. Gotta believe he'll be suspended.

The reality is he has been terrible. His first year at Gtown was a disaster. He won 2 close games against DePaul (who was the worst team in Big East history). Last year was better but still way below expectations, and they have stunk this year. I don't see him lasting another year.

I am sure the Providence fans feel terrible for him.

Accept a job paying you a few million and be ready to deal with some pressure. He might have wanted to throw something at his team. And they might have expected it

He says he’ll take any question. Then the first question, he says to talk to the players because he has nothing positive to say. Guy is a complete $SS

I saw him in SHU post games, win or lose I thought he was one of if not the best coach to talk to. Never shied away from a question, and if there was a debate with a reporter he always gave them the chance for the last word.

Clearly the pressure at Georgetown is affecting him badly.

Maybe he was forced out of PC, but Cooley, Willard and others have shown now more than ever, the grass is not always greener.

Hope Marcus Freeman realizes that before he jumps at an NFL gig.

A minor league coach feeling pressure, what a joke, get over yourselves.

Wasn't the story that his home life harmony dictated him moving from Providence and person(s) associated with there? That's enough pressure then add in the failure at Georgetown, and here we are.

This. It’s the cumulative effect of having made choices that caused him to have to leave his dream job, craft a bullschidt narrative around it, and then take on a legacy-power team that hadn’t been consistently good in 35 years and is wallowed in fan apathy, and falling on his face when he desperately needed it to look like the right move. There’s a little pressure there, yeah.

That seems like a fake tweet about the lawsuit.

Nothing but losers in Cooley's decisions and actions to leave what should have been his lifetime job at Providence.

The Providence Program was in great shape, a winning program, good admins, great fan support and a coach who was beloved, respected and successful with 8 NCAA Tournaments in his 12 years.

The vitriol from the fans and admins has been justified but I also feel it has consumed them and put pressure on English and the team.

English wasn't the best hire after only 3 years of average performance at George Mason and despite solid resources he has floundered.

Cooley has turned into a serious heel, the Georgetown fans are still apathetic and the admins, despite spending handsomely for Cooley and on players has not gotten what they paid for.

A true Loss-Loss for all involved, including the Big East,

According ESPN's story, Cooley has a relationship with the family in question. My guess is they are donors.

This goes as far as they want to take it. If they are as close as he indicates, it probably doesn't go any further.

The Big East, in its own statement Sunday, supported the school's decision.

"We have communicated with Georgetown leadership and support their decision to suspend head men's basketball coach Ed Cooley for his actions following last night's game against Xavier," the league said. "The safety and security of spectators and participants at Big East events is of paramount importance and fundamental to the enjoyment of our games."

What would have happened if a fan threw a bottle of water and it hit a Georgetown player on the bench. Think he would have had to miss one home game?

I have been a strong supporter of Ackerman for some time. But her 'response' to SHU not being invited to the NCAAs 2 years ago and now this has me wondering if I was right.

Obviously Cooley is frustrated. Year three and so far it’s not working. Agree with the comment above, Gtown not being successful Is not good for the BE.

Can't have this behavior. if Georgetown was a serious they'd suspend him for a Big East game rather than Coppin State. Basically they just gave him Christmas week off.

FYI, coaches are getting fired now for what Cooley did at Providence.

So you know for fact that Cooley committed adultery with an athletic department staff member or a graduate or undergraduate student?

Yeah, Catholic BE schools are so careful in their hires - like a known cheater and a guy who committed adultry next to the ravioli.

Absolutely. But you can't chuck stuff into the stands. Still can’t believe he actually did that.

Throw it against a wall in the locker room with nobody around.
