Friday was not a good day for BIG or UWs as Wash goes down to Seattle and Wis loses in Milwaukee to Villanova.
Another scintillating home matchup nestled amongst a demanding non-conference slate that I'm sure will pack Carver to the rafters.
Didn't I read looking at the schedule that they will play this one in Des Moines? That could have possibly changed. I would like to see a matchup in Des Moines against a higher level opponent in coming seasons to reinforce our fan base around the Des Moines metro.
Maybe? Given the opponent does anybody care? I assume this year's schedule is a legacy of Fran, but if they want more fans to come out to games they need to start scheduling fewer Chicago States, Bucknells, and UMass Lowells..

I think we will see fewer of these type of games moving forward. With this team in year one of the rebuild I think Ben feels ok with a few cupcakes to establish momentum and win which builds confidence. It also gives him an opportunity to get playing time for the guys further down the bench like Hausen, Jirak and Matteoni. We will need some size and the additional three point shooting as we get back into Big Ten play.

Yes it’s in Des Moines. Lots of tickets available which is understandable given the opponent. The arena charged too much IMO.

As Ben indicated in his presser this week, originally this was scheduled by Fran as a matchup with St Louis in Des Moines.
Ben is tight with the St Louis coach and they mutually agreed to cancel
Ben said he would like to re-schedule with St Louis in future but in Carver.
Ben is acutely aware of the impact a loss to bilikens would have on our Net rating.
He knows how important making the dance is in this 1st year for program momentum hence the defensive scheduling

You'll have quite the story if they pack Carver today, because the game is being played in Des Moines.
BTW: Not that it means a thing, but Bucknell has lost several close games. They could easily be .500 or a bit better. Regardless, Iowa wins this one easily. And I definitely am looking forward to a seriously upgraded schedule next season and beyond. Playing these glorified scrimmages gets very, very old, but I understand Ben's thinking. He's just being pragmatic this first season.

If you feel that for you to go to a game, Iowa must play a quality opponent then I got this to say to you, stay the effing away from Iowa, we don't need you. Iowa played these kind of games against crappy opponents for years and years and they still packed the field house and then Carver. Yes, they played a few quality teams but more often then not they played teams just like Bucknell and still the fans filled the games, yes it's now 2025, but the product on the court is a hell of a lot better now then it was back during half of the time during the Davis years, the later years of Alford, Lickliter enough said and half of the McCaffery years. If fans want to spend their money on the woman, so be it, when you go to a football game you know what you have, most likely an 8 and 4 team, every year just like groundhog day. McCollum is pure Iowa and has been a head coach for 16 years and has won 82% of his games. If that doesn't peak your interest, I can't help you, but don't tell everyone you see that Iowa has to play quality opponents for you to go to the games, it wasn't that way back in the day and it doesn't need to be that way now. GO HAWKS!

Offense just feels a little disjointed vs. what it has looked like previously. And yet still up 12 and opponent hasn't even hit 20 points with 8 minutes left in the half.
Amazing what DEFENSE can do for a team when the offense may not be totally bangin' on all cylinders.
