This is the new, more descriptively titled early warning thread for those traveling to/attending our bowl game.
Some previous posts and today's update are given below.

Remember, be prepared!

--------------------

In the spirit of Preparedness, I have determined that there was a Magnitude 3 quake on the South side of Tampa Bay 9-4-1905 and a Magnitude 4 quake at nearby Lakeland Florida 11-6-1978. This, of course, confirms that there is a nonzero chance of a strong quake like the Magnitude 6 one that occurred in NW Florida in 1780.

Further updates will be provided as they become available.

--------------------

For what it's worth (Buffalo Springfield, c.1967), my staff are monitoring the recent Magnitude 7.6 quake affecting Japan.
While it is unlikely that it will trigger our Mid-Continent Rift to reactivate, one never knows.

--------------------

So as not to be a slacker, I do have a seismicity hazard to report.
Within the last 24 hours, there have been 3 2.2 to 2.8 magnitude quakes in Puerto Rico.
Since that is only @1200 miles from Tampa, it bears watching.
Hopefully, there won't be a "ripple effect" of quakes to the NW near/at game time.
It would be very unfortunate if Raymond James Stadium collapsed into a crater.

By all means! Native Iowans residing in the region: Please alert your brethren to know alligator and shark infestations!!!

How about some tide reports!!! What are the tides doing and how will they be leading up to game time?

Changing weather patterns in the south east raised the possibility of Mothra, but reduced Kong. Godzilla and Rodan remain steady. Ghidora is unknown at this time, pending clarification of year end atmospheric conditions. Overall kaiju chances remain at 4.5%.

I'll take Coach Moore sightings to help the women and daughters of our fair community.

Right now he's in jail.

I DO hope that % doesn't ramp up.

Sorry for the late replies.
Our glorious local ISP, Mediacom, took ANOTHER extended drop last night.
Not impressed.

Thanks for your efforts. We all must do our part to ensure Iowa fans' safety.

Serious update...

He has posted bond and is home. Our women and children are not completely safe. He does have to wear an ankle monitor. I would advise traveling to Michigan.

As a paddle tours guide, I can tell you, first hand, that you need to look out for Manatees, as well. Not vicious or aggressive, but given their size, one must always be alert.

And don't forget space. With all the launches--SpaceX, ULA, Blue Origin, not to mention NASA and DoD--there is an increased risk of rogue rocket behavior.

And space junk, derbis, etc reentering the atmosphere, I assume.
Another thing to watch out for - it would be profoundly distressing to have Iowa devotees squashed by such hazards.

Warmer temperatures upcoming in the Midwest has increased a possible North American sighting of Kong and Rodan, but decreased Godzilla and Mothra. Undetermined yet how this will affect Florida. Ghidora remains the wildcard. If he is seen anywhere in the southeast, even down to Bermuda, it will create a kaiju shift to that area.

Overall kaiju chance has decreased slightly to 4.2%.
