I saw many plays where Crooks just bodied people out of the way while they were shooting. I even replayed 2 plays in slow motion. Both times an Iowa girl was defending or shooting and all of a sudden their body just suddenly moved 12-18 inches. Crooks just bodies in to people and refs don't call anything. If they called these she would have fouled out at half time.
You are absolutely ridiculous. She earned a spot on a National team that won a Gold Medal and was a key contributor. Yes, she has flaws. Every player on our team does. Heiden was dominated by Crooks tonight. Crooks was the best player on the floor and Jan going into the game obviously thought she could guard her. She had no chance. And that’s not dogging her, she’s a true Soph. It’s on Jan.
Missing 5 free throws in a row is a guaranteed L in a game against a top 10 team. But also, Jan's strategy of fronting Crooks to deny entry was lame, she scored like 15 points off catching lobs into uncontested layups. I thought it was a neat thing to try early on, but it was clear early that it wasn't going to work.
Nah. Losing by 5 at Hilton isn't going to hurt their seeding. Would have been great had they won, but the Big10 is loaded with tournament teams this year and they already handed Baylor their only loss of the year.

Agreed 100%. You have to slash around her and make her move (which she's not good at). Our defensive plan should be deny her the ball but if she gets it within 5 feet, either hack the **** or if her or let her have the basket. Also, we watched way to many balls hit the ground - have to rebound better. Hit free throws. Do those things and we win at a tough place to win - (come on refs!).
How many times did HS get a pass at the top of the key with her back to the basket and stand still waiting for someone to come get the ball?
I lost count. Her rebound total makes it look like she had a decent game.
She didn't. Her minutes should be halved.
She played like a terrified freshman.
Houston has way more upside. We know what Steulke's ceiling is.

This. Iowa had a rough night on the road in a hostile environment and was in it until the end against a top 10.
If anything it shows that Iowa belongs up there.
I appear to be in the minority on this board but I trust in Jan and the coaching staff to grow our Hawkeye team as the season goes on. Win or lose, they need these types of games. They will learn from this game, flush it, and get back to work tomorrow. I know we all have things we wished we would have done differently but Jan probably is thinking the same thing. I do know that I have never lost a game coaching someone else’s team from my couch.
Brown and Crooks scored 50! Jan's defensive strategy obviously didn't work. With Crooks you have to deny her the ball and do it with double teams if necessary. We tried it a few times and it worked but then Jan went away from it.
Should have went with the Bluder Run And Gun offense to wear down Crooks.

I remember that sequence and was mad as he!! but down the stretch she gave it her all. She is gritty and never quits. It is easy for couch potatoes to vast dispersions and blame. But tonight I realized she was giving it 110%.
They wanted to, but ISU generally sent 4 back on each shot so that Iowa couldn't get into transition or easy buckets off their initial sets.

Hilton home court advantage is huge. Lady hawks were not going undefeated this year. This is not a bad loss. Not JJ best coaching job. Should have been much tougher with the refs. Crooks gets away with a lot. Can't be over 300 bills and not get body fouls. She can't jump over a phone book and her "blocks" all come with her huge gut first. That and her shuffling feet should have been called. The one time AH drove around her her tree trunk legs got tangled(lol) up and she went down like an oak tree. Registered on the Richter scale.
Plus the point was that poll voters weren’t going to punish us. Not that we didn’t expect to win.
I am still torn on Jan as head coach....love her as a coach as a whole but feels might be over her head as a head coach. Game plan tonight was a joke and just not smart by any means what so ever.....she got the team beat with a dumb game plan end of story....
Still on the fence a bit on Jan. But IMO missed easy layups and missed free-throws lost this game.
They really did miss too many uncontested shots. We had some good looks all night.
two on people she wasn't guarding, and both her and hayes bit on pump fakes by crooks.
Having Feurbach, Stuelke, and McCabe all on the floor together is just a huge offensive challenge, and especially when Heiden had to sit. Hopefully Jan can figure it out
when you don't actually get a chance to improve your game, what did it help.

Here's the thing with crooks as far as refs should be concerned:
She can't lean in and displace and then call a foul because their hands weren't vertical, no kidding she moved them back.
She gets to put her hand in the back to hold the shooter down and block their shot. lol.
Consistency was lacking in this game.
Also, jan had no real plan to switch things up defensively.
this. jan needed to mix up her defense. they were already hitting outside shots in the 2/3rd quarters, switching to the tandem zone was well worth a shot.
I 100% think that houston is better all around. Hannah as a slight edge in rebounding and an edge in defense.
Passing, ball handling shooting, offense, and all around IQ the edge is houston.
Houston has way more upside than HS.
Hannah's ceiling was hit as a sophomore.
I woke this morning and still can't understand how anyone can go to the bench, smiling, after fouling out?
This team needs a senior leader.
