The Big Ten tied the AP Top 25 women's basketball record with nine ranked teams. The conference set the mark last year on Dec. 2 and this week has three teams in the top 10 alone.

Only five conferences are represented in the poll this week which covers all 360+ Division I programs. The Big Ten leads the way with nine ranked teams, the SEC is next with eight. The Big 12 has four, the ACC has three and the Big East has one.

Of note, the Tennessee Lady Vols appearance this week is their 800th appearance in the 50-year history of the rankings. Tennessee had a stretch of being in the Top 25 for 565 straight weeks, a record later surpassed by UConn.

Wednesday we will know more about the possibilities for the Hawks. Need to keep Crooks running and shoot the ball like against Rutgers. Go Hawks.

Stuelke, Heiden, and Hays should be able to run rings around Crooks, although the ISU center is as broad as a Story County barn. Iowa's speed and quickness with its bigs should cause all kinds of problems for ISU. But, of course, that's if the Hawkeyes get a fair shake from the officials . . .

Coaches Poll released on Tuesday
I think Iowa is undervalued here. Net rankings have them at 9 and ISU at 15. Iowa has a great chance to cement themselves into the upper echelons of the rankings this month.

How does anyone defend Crooks without getting called
Don't defend her. Try to deny her the ball, otherwise let her score and go five on four with everyone else. That's how some teams successfully beat the Iowa men when they featured Luka Garza. The ISU girl is not a basketball player. She's as big as a barn, and nobody can do anything about that, so let her go and take care of everyone else.

Not sure of my old memory here, but I believe it was Michigan who let Luka get his points. And to their credit, they defended the other players well and got enough points for the win. So, that strategy paid off.
