I’m not saying it to reward ND. It’s more selfish because I’d love for the Hawks to start playing ND again.
I am a Hawkeye fan first. Notre Dame is a distant second.
Notre Dame gets no sympathy from me on being left out of the CFP. They have many advantages to not being in a conference. The standard for them to getting into the playoffs should be higher.
With that said, Tulane and James Madison should not be in the playoffs.

Notre Dame has had a benefit of being independent forever. They should have joined the B1G when we grabbed Rut and Mary.

They would have been in the ACC championship game this year, probably would have won it, and basically have a guaranteed a playoff spot.

ND may, finally, be forced into a conference . . . but I don't think they want to face the likes of Indiana and Ohio State and Michigan and Oregon and USC and on and on every week. ND has been a fringe member of the ACC for a while now, and I suspect beating up on the weaklings in that conference would suit them pretty well. I'd say the BIG would be a last resort for ND, and only if the ACC falls apart. As long as the ACC remains viable, that's where Notre Dame will end up. They want no part of the BIG boys nine weeks a year.
BTW: I see ND just announced it will not be playing a bowl game this season. That puts them in great company with Iowa State and K-State, but at least those two teams did lose their head coach. ND is simply mad because they got left out. What a shame . . .

I hope so. The BIG wants it. The SEC does not. But a 24-team playoff would include all deserving teams AND would put the FBS in line with every other level of college football, from D III on up, in terms of the percent of teams who make the playoffs. And just think it all started with TWO teams . . . LOL
Yep, I mentioned this after the Big went to 18 teams. Dont you think the excitement for teams and fans will extend to later into the season because more teams will be in the race to win the smaller divisions?
Iowa would have been in Indy this year if they were in a division with Minny, Wisky, Nebby, and any of either Illinois, MSU, or jNW.

My question in all of this is why do they even do the playoff rankings before this one? ND was ahead of Miami last week and neither one played a game this week and now magically Miami is in and ND is out? We all know the only reason Miami got in is because the committee didn’t wanna deal with the repercussions of the ACC rightfully not being included in the CFP. If UVA won last night ND would be in the CFP. At the end of the day neither of those teams has a shot at the title so it doesn’t matter, but it’s so inconsistent. And I don’t have a dog in the fight as I don’t like ND or Miami. I just kinda wanted to see the ACC left out of the CFP for being pathetic.

Alabama beat the #3 seed, on the road at Georgia, so I definitely think they have a better chance to win it all than Notre Dame.
They also lost to their first round opponent once and FSU too, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t win it all.
I don’t feel bad one bit for ND whose best win is USC. That and Miami beat ND head to head when they determined it on the field.

Agree but it should have. Glad the committee got the final ranking between ND and Miami right. Imagine Iowa and some other team being essentially equal in all the metrics and Iowa won the H2H game, but the committee takes the other team.
Exactly. There's no reason for them to join the Big Ten and become maybe the third or fourth best team in the league when they can go to the ACC and fight it out with Miami every year.

I agree with pretty much all you have said here, however there is one aspect to not disregard. They are still Notre Dame. I think they will have a recruiting advantage if they are able to claim those high marquee games every season and they will certainly see a pick up in recruiting....depending on how their NIL program adjusts. I don't know what it is now but you have to think it is at least competitive with most high tier schools not named Ohio State. They would have to make changes, for sure, but I think they would see some things get easier as well. Not to mention the hefty paycheck they would get every year. The real question is who is the beneficiary of Notre Dame joining so there are an even number of schools if Notre Dame were to join the Big 10? Pitt would probably be a good addition. I don't think Iowa State makes the cut. Virginia or Virginia Tech? Florida State would jump at the opportunity.
It's going to be 24 teams soon anyway. Maybe as soon as the 2027 season. All of this will turn to seeding arguments, which is where they should be.
