As a former (HS/College) athlete, I always thought a rivalry was between 2 schools based on their competitive history/location and not where their players on any given year came from. Guess I was wrong.

Part of the real juice and hatred between these two squads was the fact that many of the players grew up playing against each other in the local NyC/ NJ area and carried over to college even when both teams were bad. Remember Laminzana was pissed that Seton Hall didn’t want him. It may still be a rivalry game because it is Seton Hall and Rutgers but that extra juice will probably not be there. Well, also it won’t be there because I think Seton Hall is going to smother Rutgers quickly and it won’t be a game.

It's not the personal animosity it used to be on the court in this new era of player movement but it still means a lot to the fans. Even the game last year down there had juice.

I mean they didn't even play every year when Rutgers was in the A10/Eastern League...truthfully it became something when the big east men's basketball conference went to a division lineup and they played each other twice a year.

SHU leads all time 42-33...it is more fantasy to certain fans than actualize reality.

It meant more to the players when rosters did not turn over every year and kids stayed for 4 years. Most of these kids are not familiar at all with either school or each other. So yes it has become mostly a fan base thing.

Just an FYI. if you were ever in the presence of Holloway as I was the last time we lost to RU at the Rock you would have thought his dog died.

Pikiell takes these games hard as well. But not as hard as Sha. With that thought in mind the players do not want to disappoint their coaches.
