This class’s signee is actually higher ranked than EJ was. Nelson was higher ranked than I had imagined as well.
While I get that, it's a bit like how we whiffed on DT during and after the Suh / Crick years.

If the staff couldn't pull highly rated guys after the dominant display those two put on = it wasn't gonna happen.

Same goes here.

With EJ leaving don’t be surprised if we go after a portal RB. He11 this could be a ploy for him to get a booster to write him a bigger check.

Best of luck to him, he was Nebraska's "Mr. Excitement" this season. Hope he does well and gets to play a lot and make some good cash.

While I wish him the best, I am not certain that this is the right move. I think he can make it in the league as a journeyman RB and use Ameer Abdullah as a comparison. AA is earning $1.255M this year. I cannot see EJ going high enough that he is going to fall into guaranteed money any high than AA is earning. Sure he would be a year closer to vesting in NFL retirement. Sure if he is really confident in himself he would be one year closer to moving beyond a rookie deal.

However with as good of a season as he had and as loved as he is here, what would EJ's guaranteed NIL number be at Nebraska versus what his probable rookie contract would be? For comparison EJ would have had to be picked in the 4th round or higher in 2025 to make more than $1M for the first year of a rookie deal.

Nice! 2 years in a row of an unexpected player leaving early and getting drafted. Anyone know his way early draft projection?

Agree completely, I think he would have been better off coming back.

I think the safest bet was to hit the portal or see what kind of NIL deal we gave him. Fidone shocked people last year and so far it has worked out. Still on the team. Can't blame him. Healthy. An outstanding year on tape. Little overall wear and tear.

Although I selfishly wanted him to stay, who could blame him? Best of luck EJ!

Are you kidding me, 1200+ yards running behind a third-rate OL, Big Ten RB of the Year — nothing left to prove in college, never a better time to declare for the NFL draft. Easy call: Go pro.

I've always had the philosophy go where you're successful. And EJ was a highly successful college running back. And he could make just as much guaranteed money coming back as he will in the NFL. He's projected mid-round at best, and his skillset doesn't scream NFL standout. He would have been better off coming back.

RB is one of those positions that I don't think scouts put a ton of stock in combine performance.

Tread on the tires and lane patience is what puts you in day 1 & day 2.

4.3 speed does nothing if you're running into your own blockers at the LOS

Also catching the ball out of the backfield is another plus that will help Emmett. As easy as it sounds some RBs struggle with it .

His combine numbers were mostly ( not all ! ) at the bottom of the 12 at the combine. But they can not measure heart. I think he will be drafted lower than most thought when he declared, but will have a good career in the NFL. Pass pro is an issue with him. But he does catch the ball very well and will be valuable for the right team. Hope he ends up in KC myself.

Someone is not telling the truth I believe it’s this guy. It was reported earlier by he ran a 4:53 ..
Doesn't really matter. He will get an opportunity...I expect him to make some money, our best backs of the last 20 years have done better in the NFL than really any other position. Undersized backs like Ameer and Rex made good money in the league eventually.

Mid 4.5s to mid 4.4s is not a huge move; we're talking tenths. He's nowhere near the fastest dude but he will get a shot and bank some cash.

Kid has a great heart, but compare him with what we used to see at Nebraska, and he's not even in the same ballpark. Small.. how is his pass pro really? Probably more of a 5-7 round guy, but I personally would only take him as a free agent. Not enough ROI for me to get involved at the draft level.
