my favorite comment was they gonna contain Kam 🤦‍♀️ and the other running backs got no spirit.
You may want to check the date stamp on this comment. You sure this wasn’t said last year? Not sure how you can erase 71-0 out of your mind that completely. Are there no newspapers there? They still using dial-up internet?

I’m being sarcastic, but they honestly can’t possibly believe that. This is just noise to fill the awkward silence, right? The calm before the storm?

Sounds like they know they can’t win by any conventional means. They intend to play dirty and provoke our guys into beating themselves.

Yeah I saw that comment on Facebook. I've seen quite a few crazy comments on that app lol. I'm worried they may try to play dirty but knowing our staff I'm sure they are prepared for that.

Well with the game getting moved up, I won't be able to attend due to work. I'm sure the guys handle business

2 things you can count on, Tarboro winning the east and Tarboro moving to Thursday for a game. You guys play more Thursday games then any other school I know.

Someone tell me why I just watched a video of Warren County fans saying they “own Tarboro” in the team huddle after the game last week? How can they be so delusional

I know tarboro is awesome each year, but how is the east that bad every year that yall don’t get challenged?

Take away 2019 East Surry and ‘22 and ‘23 MA and Tarboros average margin of victory in state championship games since 2017 is 25 points.

So outside of those years when the western champion was loaded with D1 talent - how good has the west been.

Parity doesn’t always mean stronger.

From 2017 through spring 21 edenton was in the East. I'm very confident they win the state title at least two of those years had they gotten by Tarboro (not 2019 obviously). That Northampton team in the fall of 2021 was very good, along with that Pender team. The argument Tarboro hasn't played a single good team in the east the last 9 years just isn't true.

In a little under 24 hours, we'll find out if warren county can back up the talk that their fans have been doing. I personally think they have kicked the bear to much. Hate I can't make it due to work but I expect a running clock by the vikings here.

There are two questions here.

1. How is the East that bad every year? For the most part, small schools in the East are just dirt poor and have always been dirt poor. Geography virtually dictates it. Even if a good team does emerge, they rarely stay that competitive. Good coaches at small schools get poached by bigger schools with better opportunities for their work and their families. Its a vicious cycle.

2. Why doesn't Tarboro get challenged? Tarboro hasn't always been a poor town. When I went to Tarboro High, the Vikings won the 1984 3A state championship. Reminder, there were only 4 classifications then. Edgecombe County in general and Tarboro specifically have a rich football tradition. This county's economy fell on hard times when Glenoit Mills and Carolina Telephone picked up and moved out and so did the good paying jobs. The ones that are left are the diehards. The local heroes are guys like Kelvin Bryant, Donald Frank, Yancey Thigpen, Todd Gurley and others who went to the NFL and represented us well. We have legendary coaches like Jim Brett, Raymond Cobb and Jeff Craddock who have molded boys into men with a mission to succeed. It's simply cultural.

I purposefully included a bit of Southwest Edgecombe into this post because you can't talk about Tarboro's success without talking about the rivalry between those schools. The Function at the Junction has kept the county engaged with football even when times got hard. Part of the success of Tarboro is always having something to play for, and the Cougars have been an important part of that for over 40 years.

This year the East is really bad, and there have been some other years where it has been down. 22, and 23 the East wasn't that great either. The other years, I think it was better than a lot people give it credit for. As Tarvikes said, we beat the west somewhat easily in those other years. If anyone followed the game we had last year with Corvian, you know it wasn't ever really close. The score seemed closer at times because of missed extra points, but we were never in danger of losing that game. I'd make the argument that Wilson Prep would've given them a game last year. Corvian probably would have won, but I think it could've been a good game. This may hurt some feelings, but it's true, I believe Edenton could've beat the Western representative in 17 and 18, and given East Surry a good game in 20. In 18, not only do I feel Edenton was better than East Surry, but North Stanly certainly was. In 21, Pender County was definitely a better team than Mitchell. I said all that to say, yes, it's really down this year, but overall, I think it's better than people give it credit for.

Corvian would have rolled Wilson Prep last year by 3 TDs at least. Wilson Prep was so undisciplined. They had some really good athletes, but they needed 15 yards of offence to get first downs because of all the unnecessary penalties. Corvian was within striking distance of Tarboro because they had a plan, stayed focused and didn't make dumb mistakes. Wilson Prep had no concept of a plan and simply relied on talent and brute force to win games.

haha, I said I'd argue, I didn't say I'd win the argument lol. No, I definitely, think Corvian would win, but I feel Prep would have been able to run the ball with success on them. With that said, I think all of us can agree that Warren County will not be running on the Vikings tonight.

Question for the Tarboro guys:
Could any of your 1A teams beat the 20 East Surry team? I've seen every 1AA state championship since that season, and I still don't think any Tarboro team or any Western team since then, could beat them. I believe the Mount Airy and Tarboro teams in the following years would score on that East Surry team, but none could stop them.
