Albany, Maine, 5 back-up qb, 3 teams that fired their coach, never left Iowa City for 5 weeks in the middle of the season. Sure Indy, Ducks, and USC were tough but lost to all 3, plus 1.
Be happy with the 8-4, it could have been much worse. And be thankful, Gronk was able to play the entire season.Without him it's 4-8 vs a schedule that in the end wasn't that difficult.
I never said I was unhappy with the season. You are saying be happy. The 3 conference losses were really good exciting games even all the way to Wetjen's big toe going out of bounds at the USC 11 yard line late in the game.

Pre-season I thought our 2 almost sure losses were PSU and Oregon. We won one of those. I thought USC would be tough but they have been soft on Dee these last few years so I thought a win was possible and it nearly was. I thought we could beat Indy and we probably should have (one screen pass completion with a first down, run the clock to :03 seconds with a centered ball betwee the hashes and Stevens hits a 38 yard game winner. How close is that

#23. About right where we should be. About 15 points from 12-0.
Yup. KF blew yet another opportunity for greatness. Split the 4 losses and you're in the CFP. But 27 years of experience wasn't enough to figure out how to beat a guy who was coaching at James Madison two years ago, not enough to beat mediocre Iowa State, not enough to hold onto a one-point lead over Oregon with less than 2 minutes to play, not enough to finish off USC after taking a 21-10 halftime lead. What a freakin' shame.

Complete a wide open 5 yard screen pass against Indiana.

Don't fumble on Oregon's 7 yard line against Oregon.

1 inch toe tap at end vs USC and probably win that one.

Don't allow a double tip pass to be caught by ISU's TE and we probably kick a walk off FG in that one

Not seeing Kirk's problem there.
