This dual was a tight one last year in Toms River and now RU has to travel this time around. Looking forward to this one. WrestleStat has it Rutgers 18, NC State 17. What do you guys think?

125:No. 28 Ayden Smith vs. No. 1 Vince Robinson
133: No. 12 Dylan Shawver vs. No. 32 Zach Redding
141: No. 12 Joey Olivieri vs. No. 7 Ryan Jack
149: No. 21 Andrew Clark vs. No. 8 Koy Buesgens
157: No. 29 Anthony White vs. No. 11 Jackson Arrington
165: No. 31 Ryan Ford/Andrew Barbosa vs. No. 21 Will Denny
174: No. 9 Lenny Pinto vs. No. 3 Matthew Singleton
184: No. 16 Shane Cartagena-Walsh vs. Donald Cates
197: No. 18 Remy Cotton vs. Cason Howle
285: No. 20 Hunter Catka vs. Everest Ouellette (I believe Trumble is still inactive, otherwise the No. 2 HWT would get the nod for the Wolfpack here)

NC State takes 125, 141, 149, 157, 165, and 174. Rutgers takes 133, 184, 197, and HWT.

Last year it was NC State 23, Rutgers 14. NC State took 125, 141, 157, 174, 184, and HWT. Rutgers took 133, 149, 165, and 197. It was never close.

Let's not forget, Dean had to medically default due to a concussion, giving NC State 6 ... Olivieri lost 2-1, Turley lost 9-6 and Yara lost 2-0. All one takedown matches. Gotta get over that hump, but if you flip two of those full matches, RU gets it. We'll see how they dictate the matchups this weekend!

174 is a toss up match. I could see it 5-5 and bonus wins it for Rutgers. They could bonus the last 3 weights

If Barbosa is fit and gets the nod, I'm picking an upset.
I have Cotton as toss-up.

Either NC 19-12 or NC 16-15 Need to have no WTF matches. Would rather see Harer at 157.

Is this match going to tell us who the starter is at 165?

If Trumble goes we got no shot..if he doesn’t we will need an upset somewhere..maybe 2 depending on who wins the 5:5 criteria split.

Some people on here thinks Joey O got a decent shot to AA this year.. if this is true he will need to beat guys like Jack.

Smith needs to make sure he stays off his back..if he can hold it to a major or less, that would be a win for RU

I actually think Barbosa got a decent shot to upset… I think we will need to win 2/3 of 141/165/174 to win this dual.
I don’t know about this one. Denny is tough and if I’m remembering correctly I believe he beat Melvin Miller at u20 trials

Pretty tall task . Rutgers is already the underdog plus on the road against a team a lot more battle tested at this point in the season. It will take a combination of Rutgers wrestling out their minds and NC State blowing it or nc state getting banged up in the early duals and maybe sending out a back up or 2.

Don’t you think they’d put their backups against morgan state and or anyone that’s dinged up a bit not wrestle against MS and save them for Rutgers?

Agree if Trumble was wrestling. If Trumble is out, I see this as a toss up that will come down to bonus.

If you agree RU is favored at 133, 184, 197 and HWT. Then it comes down to RU winning one of the tossups at 174, 141 and bonus points

You make it sound so easy, but in reality it’s a lot of hoping. Hopefully Trumble is out, hopefully all our fav wins, hopefully we aren’t delusional and 141/174 really is a “tossup”. Hopefully we can win one or both the tossups. Hopefully we can win bonus points. Hopefully there are no “WTF” moments.

^^^^ The true recipe for success. I'm hoping for good, solid, smart wrestling all around and for some of our veteran wrestlers to step up and out wrestle their ranking versus their opponent.

I prefer to be positive and a realist. If I'm breaking down a match, I look at favorites or major leans (of course anything can happen but if your favorites are losing, then you will probably lose unless you pick up an upset yourself). Pinto and Oliveri are toss ups..I don't know what else to say here. Bonus Points are huge and someone can get decked, injury default, etc, and this is certainly fun and makes you want to watch.

I wasn't trying to make it look easy..just saying, "handle your business" and I think this could go RU way.

Trumble hasn't wrestled all year..so no idea if he is going or not. Even with Trumble, I think RU still has a shot but would be much harder.

Maybe RU can win 149… only a mere month ago Clark was ranked 7th and Buesgens was ranked 9th…

And only a month later, Clark is now ranked 17th and Buesgens is ranked 8th.. although a underdog on paper.. Clark beat this same guy in last year’s dual. This is a winnable match, no?

Neither have much offense..so yeah. Could go either way but on paper Buesgens the favorite.
I feel better about White taking him out than anyone at RU beating Denny at 165

Whites the 157 lber so he can’t, and your saying you think white can beat Denny before Ford or Barbosa?

At the start of season, 149 really cleared out, it’s objectively the weakest weight by far. Clark had good wins over Buesgens and Lamer last year so he was ranked right above them, and yeah I was surprised myself how highly ranked Clark started the year but that’s how thin the weight was.

I always praised how Clark has quietly improved year over year.. he took some questionable losses early but let’s see if that trend continues..
