B1G divisions?

I took a look at next year's schedule and they are all new B1G opponents except protected rivalries. I look at schedules and feel not all schedules are created equal across the board.
Would the B1G try to organize divisions like NFL where in NFC you have a north, West, etc divisions? Maybe this is old news?
Is this just that crazy to think we could do this? Protected rivalries, geographical sense, and all parity balance in cross division games... of course 18 teams doesnt make this even.

B1G could have 4 divisions:
West - USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington
Midwest - Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Indiana
Great Lakes - Wisconsin, Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, NW
East - Penn State, Ohio State, Maryland, Rutgers

Iowa finished 6-3 in conference this year. Their schedule the next season could be:
3 rivalries (2 are from in division)...
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Nebraska

Remaining 6 are remaining division then either mid all around or top and low tier from other divisions...
Illinois
Indiana
Purdue
Ohio State
Washington
Maryland

Best record goes to championship as usual?

You better get back to drinking and football. Why do you have 2 divisions with 5 teams? And in what world would Iowa, Minny, Wissky , and Nebby not compete?

Better 2 add 2 teams, one from out east and one from the old Pac12 and have 2 divisions.

I brought up when the Big 10 went to 18 teams that the Big would add 2 more teams and have four 5 team divisions.

Then you can have four division winners who play in two Big Ten semi-final games and the winners play each other the next weekend in the Big Ten Champ game. Money Money Money and more excitement

If the CFP goes to 16 teams which seems inevitable that would mean a Big Ten team making it to the national championship game would play six extra games in the post season. Do we really want that? Do the players and coaches really want that? At some point this chase for the almighty $$$ will backfire and ruin the game.

I like where your head is at, but this needs some tweaking. As pointed out, you’d need two more teams to join. Ideally it would be ND and the best team from somewhere in the Pacific time zone (maybe Mountain time zone for the right school).

With 20, you could do as Northern suggests and go back to the one division of the original B1G and the other division of B1G expansion. That would be a lot of travel for the expansion teams. But a nine game balanced conference schedule would be accomplished.

A better way would be to have four divisions of five based on location and rivalries. Michigan and OSU will be in the same division guaranteed. Play your division (4 games) and everyone in your division plays every team in a different select division (5 games). That’s a nine game conf schedule where everyone in your division plays the exact same teams. Pretty fair.

Keeps the rivalries in tact. About as balanced as a conf schedule as you’re going to get. Would play every conference teams every three years and most notable rivalries would play yearly.

Oh yes, this whole NIL thing needs to be corraled and regulated better for sure. Underwood the qb at Mich is said to be making $12 mill to play there, that is crazy.

Sports is more interesting the longer the teams are playing for something. Playing for a conference championship is generally very limited. Playing for a playoff spot of 12 or 16 teams is also pretty limited.

Playing for a division title and a shot at the conference semi-final would keep many more teams in the mix.

The current model has reduced the bowls to basically the NIT of football. The current model sucks the life out of teams once they reach the three loss point in the season. Sometimes two losses depending upon the circumstances.

From both a player and fan perspective, the super conferences are a horrible model. Imagine the current Big Ten divided up into two separate 9 team conferences. That means more teams vying for a conference championship late in the season and more teams in the conference championship game.
