Now that G-town was taken down by Dayton the Pirates are all alone in first place!

Hard/weird to see 5 BE East teams sitting at 4-3.
That includes 4 teams that were preseason top 5 in the league.
I’m good with the team in 1st.😏

Different roads to three losses.

Creighton - at Gonzaga, Baylor (LV) and Iowa State (LV)
Marquette - Indiana (Chi), Maryland and Dayton
Providence - Va. Tech (MS), at Colorado and Wisconsin (SD)
St. John's - Alabama, Iowa State (LV) and Auburn (LV)
Xavier - Santa Clara, at Iowa, Georgia (Chas)

Not ideal but for the most part these are high-major losses almost all away from home.

The point differential in these losses has to be taken into consideration. Losing close or being absolutely blown out is a big difference.

Very true. Cray, Marq and Provy have each gotten whippings. Some more than once.

IF (that's a big "if") we are really the team we saw in Maui, then I don't see why we can't finish third in the Big East this down year (NOT a prediction by the way). Top 4-6 is more probable if we keep playing well.

Besides UConn and SJU nobody else has impressed me at all. Most disappointing has been Creighton, who looks completely pedestrian so far. Not impressed with Freeman. Marquette and Providence are certainly not special. Honestly Butler and Georgetown might be the third and fourth most impressive teams I've seen. Xavier can be ok if their bigs are hitting threes. DePaul is ok with Benson and Gunn but nothing special. Nova not scared of facing at all. Honestly I'm not scared of facing any BE team this year aside from UConn. Even SJU I think we can be competitive.

For perspective:

I watched a snippet of uconn. loved them.

Saw a small bit if sju. Didnt look great.

Saw GU OT last night. Hey we all stink once in a while

Dont remember seeing any other BE teams.

I was hopeful watching the ooc games Didnt love how we looked but thought a bunch of the players are for real. They really impressed me in Maui. Of course we dont know how good the teams we played are. But the Seton Hall team really impressed me. By showing talent, togetherness, toughness, perseverance. I like the starters. I like the subs. I dont look at the court and wonder why a player was still out there. I wasnt sure who was going to make a play when we needed one, but someone would/did.

Today, I should reign in my optimism. Maybe middle of the pack BE really is the top of our hope list. Maybe we just really like playing in Hawaii. Screw that. I am not nuts enough to think we can beat Uconn anywhere but Nwk, and hey, beating the beatitudinous Pitino is a foolish dream...Maybe CU and MU are still out of our league.

So today, as I sit alone, having finished my first great turkey sandwich, let me say I think we are one of the BE teams at the top of the heep. First division. Tier 1. Yup. Might be crazy. But picking us to go 10-10 in the BE a month ago was more crazy. Go Pirates.

I can always blame this on the tryotophan.

Already changed my mind.

I see a Top 2, Next 3, Group of 4, and a bottom 2.
I see it as 2, 3, 6. This is my guess at this point in the season. Too early for me to separate the last 6.

Top 2:
Uconn - look like they can make another deep run
St. John's - can win a few tournament games if they fix a few things

Next 3:
Butler - looks solid against P5 schools
Georgetown - beaten two pretty good P5 schools
Seton Hall - if we can keep playing like Maui

Bottom 6:
Marquette - Nothing special esp without Jones, Gold hasn't progressed. They'll go as far as Ross can take them.
Creighton - underachieving, Freeman unimpressive, big step back from Kalk etc, been bushwhacked against better comp
Xavier - Feisty at times if shooting well
Villanova - showed well against BYU but haven't played anyone else
DePaul - Signs of life, two good players in Gunn and Benson
Providence - Not good
