It's early, but I'm a believer. We need to get Coach Ben as much NIL cash as we can in addition to revenue share.

Yep. It's apparent to me that if Ben gets higher end talent, Iowa will be competing for championships. It's early, but I'm a believer. We need to get Coach Ben as much NIL cash as we can in addition to revenue share.

Man, what in the world was going on with that group? I remember that photo, and it still blows my mind.View attachment 1032487

They're the reason Kate Ferentz took a knee going into halftime at Ohio State in 2009.Man, what in the world was going on with that group? I remember that photo, and it still blows my mind.
Didn't that kid get arrested for car-jacking in Detroit just 2 or 3 years removed from the Iowa program?
Absolutely agree, but more resources are never a bad thing! We need to be able to successfully recruit high end talent so we can develop it. Part of that is unfortunately $$$$$Have posted before that Ben has made clear he intends to build this program developing players and keeping them here. After this last portal period where he tried to acquire a big he indicated that bigs in the portal just cost too much. That doesn't mean he won't use the portal to fill holes like perhaps potentially bringing in a replacement for Stirtz at the point.
We hired a very smart basketball coach who knows how to recruit and I believe started his career in finance. He didn't hire a general manager and runs that side of things. I trust Ben to evolve and adapt to the ever changing landscape at this level.
Yes, when Ben was hired, I recall him saying something about developing the bigs. Maybe he will be more aggressive in the portal and NIL with the rest of the roster.Have posted before that Ben has made clear he intends to build this program developing players and keeping them here. Uncovering 3-star under-the-radar gems and recruiting them are Ben's forte' ...but he needs the NIL bank in order to retain that talent and keep them from jumping ship before we enjoy the fruits of his labor.Absolutely agree, but more resources are never a bad thing! I understand that, but we're aiming higher than that and falling short.Uncovering 3-star under-the-radar gems and recruiting them are Ben's forte' ...but he needs the NIL bank in order to retain that talent and keep them from jumping ship before we enjoy the fruits of his labor.
I just feel depleting scarce NIL funds recruiting 5-star PGs just to have them bolt to Duke/etc. after their frosh year is not a winning formula for a school like Iowa. Get a under-the-radar kid who feels some loyalty to Ben and hope to have enough NIL to keep him here for a few years.I understand that, but we're aiming higher than that and falling short.

I don't disagree, I'm just saying that's what our targets are right now.I just feel depleting scarce NIL funds recruiting 5-star PGs just to have them bolt to Duke/etc. after their frosh year is not a winning formula for a school like Iowa. Regardless, the deck is stacked against non-blue blood schools like Iowa and always will be. Very hard to break into that club, even when you win an NC or get to a few FFs. The media has already determined that there are no more seats at the blue blood table, and kids know who those programs are and 99% want to be a part of that legacy.
Replacing a talent such as Bennett is challenging. Ben stated that he likes to get players out of HS, and ones who commit to the university for their playing career(s) didn't he? I might be wrong. Correct me if I'm wrong. NIL sure makes it tricky, doesn't it?I understand that, but we're aiming higher than that and falling short.

I think this is a good point. Ben's ability to not only coach and spot HIS type of players in their HS careers pays dividends. But, the NIL skews things quite a bit IMHO. There is no way a lesser than blue blood school can compete for a five star recruit. We can get an occasional four star I believe, but retention largely depends on coach-player relationship for Ben, and what the player can bring to the team in his role.Uncovering 3-star under-the-radar gems and recruiting them are Ben's forte' ...but he needs the NIL bank in order to retain that talent and keep them from jumping ship before we enjoy the fruits of his labor.
Great post. At the end of the day Ben wants hard working kids who buy into the culture. Some of the higher end players in it for the money first won't fit. On the other end the hidden gems he finds he now has to pay so recruiting becomes finding that balance. Here I think it helps that he also runs the financial side.I think this is a good point. I doubt it. If I recall correctly SWARM announced they would get out of the direct fund raising side and work more on the marketing side. The role of the collectives has changed with revenue sharing coming. The new rules with regard to NIL seems a positive change.Have SWARM memberships picked up at all?

Thanks Fran. This NIL stuff seems hard to keep up with. Can you elaborate on the changes as far as scrutinizing NIL contracts?SWARM no longer is paying athletes who "volunteer."
Now, all the money goes towards acquitting & retaining talent.
Not sure what Brad's handle is on here but he could tell more, obviously![]()
