Is Matt Rhule Terrible at Making Decisions

1: Chose Jeff Sims over Casey Thompson
2: Didn't hire Bill Busch
3: Hired Donavan Raiola as OL coach.
4: Hired a failed OC/TE coach as the QB coach.
5: Hired a failed OC as OC.
6: Hired his former DC causing Tony White and Pork Chop to leave Nebraska for FSU.
7: Sees Nash/Ty and decides to go small on the DL.
8: Wanted to replace Satterfield for 2024 but he couldn't get Dana so kept Satt.
9: Says he wants to be like Michigan in 2023 yet hires a Big XII OC.
10: Has chance to hire experienced DC after 2024 yet hires a guy with one year of DC experience.
11: Kept OL coach after 2022/2023/2024.
12: After 3 years still doesn't have a backup running back and lucked out on finding one starter.
13: Continues to recruit DBs/WRs after seeing our DL/OL constantly get pushed around and bullied.
14: Terrible at choosing when to go for it, punt, or kick.
15: When DR committed dropped Kyle Mccord out of the portal. You know the guy who guided Syracuse to a 10-3 win season. Has the most passing yards in Syracuse and ACC football history.
16: Hired a literal child to run the WR room, likely hoping that his buddy would fail at TT and come work for him again.

Coming from someone who liked the Matt Rhule hire it's pretty crazy how bad some of these are. Imagine where we are if Eckler doesn't get hired.

Sometimes, non-decisions result in more damage than even bad decisions.

Not sure if Bill Busch wants to coach again but Rhule should have pursued him hard when he first got here. That guy is a Swiss knife, can coach anywhere on the field and do it well.
And recruit too. His story about recruiting ricky thenarse is classic. Up there with Eck and Compton

I don’t get the Bill Busch love. But it seems like that’s the general vibe.

I liked him because he made special teams better and made our defense go from a diarrhea sandwich to competent. I don't think people expected him to stay as DC. But people had hoped he would stay as ST coach. Then MR hired his guy who completely failed himself.

Bill busch had his office cleared before Rhule was hired. He didn’t want to coach again. It’s obvious by year 3 with Rhule and no Bill anywhere. Not necessarily at you. Bit the stupidity on this board is amazing.

I would rather blame Trev than Matt. Matt had just been fired in absolutely embarrassing fashion for the first time in his life. He was out of shape, a physical, mental, and spiritual mess. His confidence was shattered as was his belief in his process. Trev came to him on his knees with his mouth open and Rhule initially didn't want the job, and for good reason. Rhule was burned out and needed a break...instead he was convinced by the insane contract to take the job and he basically had to scramble against his own inertia to fill positions and find coaches and players that first year. He has fired a lot of them since, and has begun to adjust to the nil and recruiting game, but Trev, hiring a coach who didn't have any players, who had never done any NIL or dealt with the portal, who had just been kicked off his last team mid-season, and who didn't have an impressive coaching tree, didn't coach a position, or even call plays and wasn't a great recruiting, has to go down as one of the worst decisions in NU football history. Trev realized it almost immediately and used the momentum from the hire to jump ship.

Bill literally said in an interview that he lived in Lincoln and it would be his dream to have a job on Rhule's staff. He is exactly the type of guy who should have been retained...the issue is that he wanted to help with the defense and Rhule is pretty over-protective about how the defense should be run. This is why Tony left for a terrible job and Rhule promoted a new DC.

Never thought of it that way but you've got a lot of good points.

Bill said he would leave Lincoln again. He never gave Rhule a chance retain him . Why would any coach go out of their way to retain the previous staffs coach if he cleared his office out .

His first year here I thought fans were overanalyzing it but my oh my how many games have been lost by his terrible decisions.

He tried to give away the Cincy game. He let Dylan decide to go for it on 4th down and got them right back in the game when they had done nothing every time we pinned them deep.

Where are you getting your information from? Bill married a lady from Lincoln that is a realtor. He was gonna let her cook. He should be on this staff because he can recruit, coach and develop.

Sounds like they gave the young man QB the decision making authority of a seasoned NFL veteran QB.

I haven’t listened to the show Bill is on since probably early 2024 but he sure seemed content doing that, also doing some speaking at events. If he wanted to leave Lincoln he would have already done so. Could have he been talked into coaching or at least on staff with the Huskers again? Of course it’s possible.

Bill will become a "PR hire" at some point when the heat is on Rhule in a year or so. Rhule knows Busch is extremely popular in Nebraska, and like everything else in Matt's life, it will buy him more time.

What was the last special teams coach’s name? He was good at PR traveling the state, posting photos of the communities he was at. That was a good idea. But not the part of a position coach out doing that

I agree that was on Trev more than Matt. But it’s really deeper than that. It’s on the admin for forcing Trev to hire a guy they thought could develop raw talent so it didn’t need to spend a lot in NIL to stay competitive. They really thought NIL was a fade and could out smart it. They feared the extra costs and how it would hurt their partners profit. Things that fans and now players really don’t care about anymore.
I mean what fan is choosing a red seat over a a stud running back to complement EJ? What player is choosing a cool locker over a paycheck?
