OT: Others Receiving Votes - UConn

Jim Mora has done a hell of a job with UConn considering the program seemed dead. They're actually doing better as an independent than when they were in the American. Maybe there's something to being able to basically hand pick your schedule! the ACC should try to tempt them away from the big east for basketball and have them joint as an all sports program

meanwhile next door UMass might be the worst FBS team I have ever seen.

Two nine win seasons in a row.

Will Greg have a single 9 win season at Rutgers?
As the Grifter tells it, every week is a win. 11-0! The score isn’t important or something to focus on. Instead, what counts most of all is that the team never stops Choppin’ and strives to get better every day. “We’re all winners here and I am both proud and blessed being around all the players and coaches in this program”. “They are a real inspiration” he said with tears streaming down his cheeks.

They lost to a bad Syracuse team. They shouldn't receive votes.
with Syracuse stud QB from ND playing. Big difference.
And they have probably no NIL, support, no conference money.
They beat P4 teams with a bunch of resources. Teams they should not beat.

We are supposed to recruit Big Ten quality players. We don"t. UCONN must be getting quality players for their schedule. Plus good coaching.

he considers this his 9 wins... $7, 000 , 000 . 00
Greg wants more. He has said as much multiple times. Some of us are not sure he will ever get there. I would love to see him get there. But not at the expense of 3-4 more 6-6/7-5 seasons.

They also lost to Delaware and last year Maryland scored 50 points against them. If we played them tomorrow we'd be 12 point favorites IMHO.
I think you guys are missing the point.
UConn does not have the level of talent of any P4 school. That's one point.
They beat 2 P4 teams this year, Duke, and a downtrodden Fredo. Duke is a solid ACC team.
All 3 of their losses were in overtime.

Delaware lost to Wake by 38 points but they beat UCONN.

Just stop with those pesky facts.
I see we are playing the transitive property game, which is not supposed to apply in sports. But let's run with it!

First Wake has had a solid season. Wake beat Virginia, which is vying for the ACC championship. But Wake lost to FSU, so they must suck? Golly this is getting complicated.

I think the only way to settle this is to wait for the result of Wake and Duke, who UConn beat. Duke also beat Syracuse 38-3, so that means UConn should get a do over against Syracuse without Angelini at QB.

Duke also lost to Illinois by 26 points. Rutgers lost to Illinois by 22 points, but Duke scored 6 more points than Rutgers against Illinois.

You know what all of this means? Rutgers could possibly lose to UConn if they played each other because UConn beat Duke. o_O

I don't think I am missing the point. UConn is not a top 35 team in the nation. Maybe they are overachieving based on the quality of player they can attract, but that doesn't make them a top 35 team which is what a team receiving votes would be ranked. As others have said, they would probably lose to RU, and RU is no where near a top 35 team.

I didn’t realize losing in OT means the are not losses? Did Delaware or Rice have P4 level talents? Is Duke and BC or ACC P4 worthy?

First Wake has had a solid season. Blah, blah, blah.

First, and only, Yukon would get slaughtered in the Big 10, hell in any major conference, and by the 4th or 5th game, would be so banged up that they'd be getting blown out by halftime. I saw that story repeatedly at RU in the 80's when we were independent and had transitioned from playing 9-10 1AA teams to 10 1-A teams, then in the 90's in the Big East.

FWIW, UConn is ranked #44 by The Athletic this week. Penn State #52. Rutgers is #71. Not sure Rutgers would/will beat either one. Before anyone jumps down my throat, just calling balls and strikes here, looking at Rutgers' defensive ranking and the offensive performance against more stout defenses (Illinois, Oregon, Ohio State).

The point went over your head, and you deflected again. And you can't be serious about Duke.

Look at UConn's schedule. It isn't a stretch to say that RU would win 9 games against it, maybe even more...
If Rutgers was an independent, with no conference money or resources? That's the point.

Rutgers struggled to beat an Ohio MAC team 34-31.

They also only beat FL Atlantic by three - FL Atlantic lost to Maryland by 32.

65 is the new 55 im 66 BTW LOL
Seriously. Bill B at UNC is 75 or 76 and scoring with someone 50 years young than him. The K State head coach came back in his 70s and did a fine job. Cignetti is only 2-3 years younger than Mora. Some people take care of themselves and age well.

Struggled to win is much worst than losing in OT. The puppies struggled to beat FAU but clearly FAU’s resources gave them the advantage

if Mora is still around, I'm not opposed to looking at him next year
Mora can coach circles around Schiano. He would certainly have a better B1G conference record of 15-38 {28%} than Schiano has had after 6 years. Sad to say this but UCONN would beat us this year. Reflection of how bad our program has sunk under 2.0
Even having this debate is indictment of our program.

You can't possibly be that stupid but maybe I'm incorrect. 9 wins? Against the lowest of the low compared to the B1G? Our worst loss will end up being Minnesota. Sad.
