Jan got ultra conservative with her substitutions in the second half and it about bit her in the butt.
This was odd-even for Jan.....I expected see a bit of a reduced bench in crunch time, but she basically played the starters the entire game.....it makes me wonder if she was even aware of the lack of substitutions during the heat of the moment.....or if anyone brought it to her attention....

Iowa played cupcakes which most teams do early on. She looked good in those games but when the competition ramped up she struggled. Hopefully she grows out of these last two bad games because the Big Ten won’t be any easier when conference play starts.

Typically, aren't assts responsible or given tasks to handle in game?

The way Iowa didn't utilize the three fouls they had to give in the last couple of minutes indicates a lack of awareness or even confusion by the staff.
This might be nitpicking, but it nearly cost them the game.

Bingo, and coaching in that 2nd half was bad. Miami’s post had 3 fouls and instead of getting the ball into Heiden she’s letting them chuck up 3’s. The girls were gassed in the 4th.
I feel JJ was trying to project calm on the sidelines in that 8 minute scoring drought.
The problem was Heiden was probably gassed, Hannah always has some WTF moments, even as a veteran, KF is inept, offensively, and Stremlow just isn't used to playing 30 minutes.
The obvious missing piece was Chit Chat.
Since neither Baylor nor Miami are considered high level teams, it's worrisome that those games were this close on a neutral court.

Good observations but I think beating two previously undefeated teams, and one that was ranked in the top 10, is only positive regardless of how close the games were.

Baylor isn’t a high level team?? They were ranked in the top ten and regularly pull top recruiting classes. It was the first time Iowa had beat them in 3 meetings. Miami was just in the elite 8 a few years ago. Not the sisters of the poor.

We go 2-0 and people are acting completely miserable. It’s gonna be a long season for some of you. 🤣

Jan may have been sending a bit of message too about playing within the framework of the system etc. I wouldn't read too much into last night's game. Let's see how ER regroups in the next group of games pre-ISU. I think ER has great upside and has shown flashes of brilliance along with a whole lot of "what was that"?

Baylor had to go to OT, on a neutral court, to beat Davidson.

They might be a top 5 team in a crappy Big12.

Nearly everyone here wants the same thing...a successful Iowa WBB season.
Hays and Stremlow are very competent players off the bench.
Can Rodriguez, Deal, and/or Houston join them?

Since that Elite 8 appearance Miami has gone 8-10 (9th place) and 4-14 (16th place) in ACC play,

And not a single person that played on that Elite 8 is still on the roster, so what that team accomplished that season means nothing to this year's team.

The way that Miami game was called, it can hardly be described as a neutral court.

No one thinks they are very good...they got that ranking by beating Duke before everyone realized Duke isn't very good, either.
Yep, beating Duke and due to the name of the jersey. People just think Baylor is going to be good, and maybe they will, but they basically have one player who can consistently score.

Baylor not a high level team? They were ranked 7.

So Baylor (who has a fine program) and was rated 7th or 9th, was not a high level program?

Stop with the refs. Please. It’s so sad. We played a really solid 3 quarters and then collapsed and didn’t even play the 4th qtr.The refs had nothing to do with it.

Did't watch the game but saw in the box score she didn't score.
I love her game, BUT right now I'd compare her to a wild horse. She's hard-nosed, talented, aggressive but entirely untamed. If Jan and the staff can get her under control, she has a very high ceiling. But taming her could take a while, and some wild horses just never can be tamed. We'll see how it goes with this one. Emely would be awesome if she can figure it out.

Never ref’d a game in my life. Just thought it was a pretty stupid comment considering there was like 1 post about the refs lol
Go back and look through the timeline my man. Once the game got close and we started shitting the bed people started complaining about the refs losing a 10-12 pt lead is not the refs fault. We were choking but luckily we held on and got the win. Because that might have ended up being a bad loss by the end of the year.
