not so fast
with a mere 4 plays lester turned around the game and won it
Exactly, the conservative crap is Kirk. He's so afraid of a turnover that he won't let the O play. We've seen it for YEARS! When the **** hits the fan Kirk has no choice, he turns it over to Lestet. We ruin quarterbacks with it. They are so afraid to turn the ball over they lose their edge. Gronowski didn't throw for over 10,000 yards because he can't pass. Get him In a hurry up where he's not over thinking and all of a sudden he's throwing dimes
It's not luck. Let em freaking play.
Kirk needs to STAY completely out of the O , he won't though.

Lester is hampered with a bad QB.

Lester didn’t miss the wide open receiver underneath on the first drive…the play where our QB threw it 5 yards over the head of his target.

Lester didn’t throw an arm punt into double coverage on the play action pass on our second drive.

Lester didn’t miss Jacob Gill on the 4th and 11 corner route.

Simply put, if Gronowski doesn’t have to read and think, he is alright. Unfortunately, his 1st read isn’t always going to be open. Lester hasn’t been able to teach him these reads….but is that because Lester isn’t a good teacher or because Gronowski spent 4 years in a different system that might not have required him to make more than one read?

I don't think he is a bad qb. I think he's hamstrung by the same problem that we've had for years. Conservative Kirk. Turn the O lose when the **** hits the fan they don't even look like the same team.

Then we need that system, which we don't have.

Lester isn’t the problem - at all. Everyone’s gonna call a poor game once in awhile, but the bad games he has had, there still have been chances that were hampered by bad QB play. Not totally on MG either, as someone mentioned. He rarely had to read defenses the way he is now; he so much as to said he wanted to develop that under Lester.

I firmly believe MG was a 4th or 5th portal option (Mendoza being one & Pribula another).

He has brought life back into the offense, and is still developing a personnel of his liking.

I’m giving him at least two more years.

I really really think the problem is Kirk and his philosophy.

This is Tim Lester's worst called game as OC. This is absolutely embarrassing. I'm not sure how much of a role Kirk has in this, but this has truly been terrible.
For sure, he kept running into the loaded box, he could have went to 4 wideouts spread across the field after the very first possession but I think that is too crazy for Kirk.

It is pretty easy chess match to outflank an 8 man box with one high safetyp 10 yards behind the LOS.

And Grono seems to be better throwing the ball 20+ yards

I don't think that's Lester brother, we've seen this for years and years and years. He's only only allowed to do what he can do in Kirk's psycho conservative system.

I’ve also said for years that Kirk lacks touch on his conservative play. Against great teams, yeah, do the ball control and the cat & mouse.

Against lesser teams, bury them like the better team you are, and don’t apologize for it.
He treats every game with the same style & philosophy & it’s why he won’t ever get over that hump.

Kirk lacks game ‘touch’, which incidentally, shows up in his clock management skills as well.

It's insane that you put that on an offensive coordinator when you have a quarterback that literally can't complete a five yard pass. Just stop it. We all see what Mark is doing back there and offensive coordinater has no bearing on him just being absolutely atrocious.

Mark said in the post game that MSU gave them tons of different looks that they were not expecting. It had them baffled for 3 quarters.

I will say this, as frustrated as I was with Gronowski for 3 quarters... if we continued to beat our head into a brick wall by running, we would have lost. The run game was about as ineffective as I can remember. Everyone was awful.

Gronowski made 4 good reads and throws that saved the game.

Agree pretty piss poor but think it was his 2nd worse after the isu game. Refusal to throw on 1st was frustrating after watching msu get so many successful pass plays and lot of play action on 1st.

Michigan State seemed to be run blitzing almost every play. Not sure why Grono wasn’t pulling it and keeping it more. Also a guy in his 5th year shouldn’t he be able to pre snap read a little better? The QB has to be able to get you out of some of that. But again, kudos to the guy. I’ve never seen a guy look like absolute **** for 3 1/2 qtrs and somehow just put it behind him. That last 6 minutes he was incredible.

Yeah. His decision making and throws were awful for the first 3 quarters of that game. There isn't an OC on the planet that is going to fix that.

There were at least 4 plays that MG should have pulled the ball and ran instead of handing to RB. He would have had at least 8 or 9 yards in the clear.

To be fair, the clock management at the end of the game was perfect.
It was near mirror image of usc before halftime. This time they got it right, as they should with it being recent memory.

I fear he’s going dial it down this game yet again, and Lateef will find ways with his legs to sting the Hawks. Score & score often should be the mentality here.

If you pay attention to the team and not just one player or coach last Saturday we had 3 offensive lineman playing with injuries that kept them out of the previous game for significant snaps. Then our center went out for a series with an injury so there's 4 out of 5 lineman playing with injuries impacting their level of play. The offense struggled in part due to Lester trying to figure out what we could and couldn't execute with a hobbled line. Hopefully we have enough left in the tank to execute a game plan vs Nebraska. We are definitely beat up after playing two very physical games and MSU giving us all they had.
