Charlotte Catholic at Watauga

Hard to say. Catholic is historically a perennial powerhouse. I believe whoever executes best, wins.
I like Watauga in this one. I believe Catholic is playing better ball than earlier in the season. It will be a good game. Wish I could be at this one but I have another game that I’m going to.
Watauga by 1 TD. I think this one has the making of nail bitter but faith in the mtn boys to barley pull one off cause CC will come to play you can mark that one down
Earlier in the season I had my eyes set on a Watauga n Catholic playoff game if it was to happen. But unfortunately I want be able to make it up this weekend. Definitely going to be good one to see.
Interesting picks. If my memory serves me, when the split came out I believe several posters said there would be more championships coming for Robbinsville and CC. It’s interesting that a few are picking Watauga.
Thats why they play the game, sir. Predictions are just for talking heads like us to keep ourselves occupied until they strap em up.

A game I GOT to hit up next Friday. Sun Valley beat the breaks off of Freedom. Watauga will have their hands full and actually be underdogs. Their QB can land passes in thick fog and while getting pressured and almost hit. If they got decent DBs they might can hold this own. This will be my first time seeing Watauga in action in prob 3 years
Watauga beat freedom with almost an identical score. I'd never deny sun valley credit, but maybe give a little credit? Watauga is no pushover.
I based what I said off of state rankings (seen on maxpreps) and the fast rate of speed they scored on Freedom with some of their plays and of course their 3 games lost was to powerhouses.
I love and respect the program and everything they got going on up at Watauga. No prediction given in this one but lots of credit yes. They’re one of my teams I route for. Got family there. My mom and aunt woulda went to Watauga if they built it way sooner.
Just saying when I seen SV in action down at Freedom and knowing they’d be coming to Boone I was like…dang. They really are gonna have their hands full and be in a real dog fight. I want Watauga to win as much as anybody there. No predictions or even doubts given and no they are no pushover. I’ve never thought that.
Looking at the ole 10 day forecast the weather looks good but high 36 low 19. Better dress warm

Boone in late November is definitely a home field advantage!! This looks like it’s going to be a good one .
Sun Valley has become a doormat team from when I was in in high school back in the 80s to a solid winning program in the last dozen or more years mainly due the population explosion in Union County especially in the area of the school. Plus they play in one of the toughest conferences in the state with teams like Weddington, Porter Ridge, Charlotte Catholic, Marvin Ridge and Cuthbertson so they face tough competition all year. Sun Valley has also graduated some great talent the last several seasons also. Sam Howell currently in the NFL is a Sun Valley grad. I watched some of the Watauga/Catholic game and the Pioneers look pretty solid. Sun Valley is pretty balanced this year run and pass so Watauga will have their hands full.
Lol you referenced one player im Howell because that's all. I dont disagree that Sun Valley is a solid team, they play in a crazy tough conference. All im saying is Watauga is equally as good or they wouldn't be playing one another next week. They've only had one common opponent, which both teams played nearly identical. Watauga is solid in the run and pass, and had two pick six touchdowns last night.
The best team will win, like always. If its sun valley, itll be deserved. If its watauga, itll be deserved.
I can remember very well Watauagas doormat years which were many. Mostly 80s and 90s and some of 2000s. Eric Breitenstein was a huge spark for them and they been going pretty strong ever since. But man lemmie tell ya the athletes they had in the 90s when I was around, if this coach or one like him was up there they would not have lost half the games they lost.
The reason I referenced Sam Howell is because Sun Valley use to graduate no good players so I'm not sure what's funny about it.
The Avery vs Wataugas games. Are they even considered rival games any more LOL. I wouldn’t know when the last time was Avery beat Watauga

No, Watauga doesn't play Avery anymore. Those 55-0 halftime scores made Avery angry. No im much older than graduating in 11. I had to change my name a while back, got locked out of my old account. My previous username was us_doss11. It was a military reference.
When I was at Avery in the 90s Watauga was a W. Avery last win was 2011 21-0.

No I played travel ball in the military I was #11. My MOS was 13P. Multiple launch rocket systems, fire direction specialist.
Yup I remember those days. Avery was so physical, it was the only game on the schedule, outside of crest, you knew you were gonna be sore the next day. And those two brothers, one was the rb. My goodness.
Just so you know but @oldburkeman and myself are also army. I hung out with the gun bunnies a little when I was in an armored cavalry regiment.
They also had Charlotte Catholic as common opponent and sun valley shut them out 21 to 0 at Catholic. I think Watauga might be in trouble especially since it took 2 pick sixs to beat Catholic last night.

Yeah this friday after the heavy eating and burping of ole Tgiving meal its gonna be a rough game. I hadn't been to a Watauga game this year because of other stuff/ church or other games going on or I just didnt wanna see a beat down cause the interesting competition dont come til later for them and they are so good. Much respect to the kids and program. I said in other forums that since they are 6A they dont have to face the big time big city schools of 7A and 8A so this would be a HUGE chance for them to take a title. Little did i know back some weeks ago that Sun Valley was this good and in this mix of 6A.

After that 1st play pick 6 for Freedom, i thought uhhhh we got a game, this might be good....but then I thought well, this might be like in the movies were a big guy gets punched first...he rubs his mouth...looks at the smaller guy that hit him and then BAMM!!! Knocks em out hard.
Coach at Watauga I'm pretty sure knows how to plan for every team. For this one its get to the QB early and keep applying pressure, but even when Freedom did that he still got the ball right in the basket in the fog. Those SV guys can sprint too, track stars on this team looking like.

I remember Burke when he was burkeforreal. We've been on this thread for dang near 20 year so so.
I think i mighta started in 2008 im not exactly sure. In 3 years it'll be 20. Good grief were is the time going. So what time period did you go to Watauga? I grad from East Burke in the mid 90s, ran track against the Kitchens family kids when they were at Watauga, they were all good at what they would do lol. One ended up playing football for App as a DBack.
