197 - 1-1 in OT. About to go to ride outs but there is a review from a wild sequence. Neither wrestler had control and Merrill was on his back. Nebraska threw the brick but no change.

HWT - Doucet drops a 2-1 decision to the jackass Ferrari. Ferrari stalled the entire 3rd after but only 1 stall call.

33-6 oSu for 3rd place.

Taylor got majored against tOSU, probably trying to save his ego with that duck. I’m sure he will wrestle in a few weeks.

Spratley was strong and won by pin against a decent opponent. Ramirez won on his takedowns but chose bottom after an injury time out and got rode out. Then in the second period rightly chose neutral. Ronnie beat an okay wrestler. Sergio Vega this weekend put his name on the college wrestling map. He was stunningly good against Hardy with a major. Lots of take downs by Sergio, great scrambling. Swiderski pulled out the match but came close giving up a takedown at the buzzer again. Landon dominated the Nebraska backup. He gave up the first takedown but then dominated to get a tech. Dee got a forfeit win. Facundo won 2 to 1 on a penalty point. He had several close take downs but didn't finish. Zach lost in overtime giving up the only takedown of the match. Cody Merrill couldn't get a takedown in the whole match but won on riding his opponent out in over time. Doucette lost by being rode a little longer in over time over Ferrari. We have some wrestlers who seem to love to wrestle and have real wrestling talent= Vega, Robideau and Lockett. Troy is that type of wrestler but in big matches against high quality opponents he lost this weekend. Ramirez isn't at that level yet, but he has been surprisingly impressive. The transfers all have holes in their wrestling Figueroa is not in shape which indicates a lack of commitment which was demonstrated last year, Casey, is not in good shape and seems to panic and not respond in key moments of a match. Facundo and Ryder lack offense. I hope to see improvement as the season goes on or we should cut them after the year. Cody has me confused because he seems weaker, slower and lacks confidence and technique so far this year but he did beat an All American today We should keep wrestling Vega for the whole year because 41 and 49 will be packed starting next year. I would love to redshirt Robideau and Lockett for the future because they may be all time greats for the Cowboys and we are not a Championship challenge this year. However they are so good you probably can't. The true freshman are outstanding and we have Jax, the Raney's, Ross, Zinkin and White coming in next year. The future could be very bright.

Stoked on the freshmen as well. Landon reminds me so much like Dieringer and/or Retherford… bigger, stronger, faster, smarter, one step ahead. Vega is a pleasant surprise, somehow he’s as strong as his opponents but with tons of length on his wiry frame. Dee is surprisingly stingy, want to see some more TD attempts but he’s finding ways to win so can’t complain there. Cody isn’t flashy but also finding ways to get it done. Ronnie took out some great opponents as well. They should all be building confidence with each match.

Troy needs to keep pushing the offense. When he shuts down he is less successful. His defense isn’t at that level. Better to take a shot and stalemate out if the goal is to burn clock. No comments on the rest really. If you don’t take shots and gas out then you don’t win. Wish Doucet had taken down Ferrari, I didn’t want the match yet but Ferrari will win most low scoring matches.
