And in each game, you can point to one play that cost us the win(some with multiple single plays, like today)...

The next closest 4 loss team is LSU, with a 47 point spread... Just stating a sad fact.

Just not our year to execute!? We will be well stocked for a good run next year, if we can have a couple of DBs step up. And the right QB(s), which I think we have, if they all stay.

Hopefully the fellas can shake it off and finish strong!!!

On Iowa! 🖤&💛

This should be no surprise. It’s the Iowa way, at least under Kirk Ferentz. Stay competitive in every game, even against ranked opponents, usually with a chance to win. But stub their toe near the end and find a way to lose.

Iowa is decent but has neither the caliber of talent nor the coaching needed to get over the hump.

How long has it been since Iowa beat a ranked team?

Looking like Nebraska in the past several seasons losing 1 score games. It's just the lack of talent in a few positions as posted above. Recruit better at skill positions and you have a better outcome in these games. 2026 recruiting is very good but 2027 and beyond is where we see how Iowa handles revenue/nil.

^^this. Iowa has been overmatched talent-wise in 3 of it's 4 losses. It's actually remarkable that we were so close in so many. The skill level on Oregon's and USC's roster is really high.

I’d say the weather the last 2 weeks has helped Iowa. When you think you are overmatched talent wise I’d say the wet crappy weather benefits Iowa’s style of play.

Top End Mediocre: KFs legacy, especially post-Doyle. We can’t out tough any team with an actual pulse.

How easily you forget about some of the great wins Kirk has led this program to.

2002 Michigan
2008 Penn St
2009 Ga Te
2016 Michigan
2017 Ohio St

just to name a few :)

Exactly, which makes all the bitching about coaching ridiculous. Honestly we should be getting run in most of these games, and we're not. Lester (and by extension Kirk) have done a great job with this offense). MG is a winner, of that there is no doubt. The issue is his timing is just a hair off, and many times he's a split second late with the balls release. He's had time to throw, and he's made some great throws. The ones to Gill yesterday, and the TD to Howard, like the one to RVZ against Minnesota. Unfortunately there are still the low balls too often , and that last pass to Wetjen was again a split second late. You too often see guys waiting for the ball to arrive instead of being hit in full stride. Those were all well called plays, but the execution was just a hair off, by MG. Watch the difference with USC QB, and watch Mendoza at Indiana. That guy was 90% completion% again yesterday. In their home games he has 21TD passes AND 16 incompletions! Thats insane! We just don't have THAT level of QB. Thats not poor game planning as some want to continue to press here.

So whats new? How many B1G championships for teams not named OSU or Michigan?????? I'll wait for your answer, because it sure shoudn't take long.......
With our defenses from 2021 to 2023, it’s coaching malpractice not to have at least one big ten title in those three years. Again, Kirk putting his family in front on the program cost Iowa possibly multiple big ten titles.

Last B10 Championship?
Hard to win those with OSU, Michigan (cheaters) and Penn State (Peds) in the league. All spend three times or more on NIL. Read where Smith at OSU is getting $4.5M. Crazy.

Now you add in Oregon, USC, Washington and Indiana who all spend $20M plus, winning a big title will be almost impossible.

Definitely not an equal playing field. I'd like to see what the Day's, Lannings of the world would do if equal dollars were spent and talent were balanced.

I don't watch pro sports because of the payrolls and college is becoming less interesting also. The haves vs. the have nots.

As usual with people who take your stance. Just answer the damn question. How many teams other the OSU and michigan have won B1G titles in Kirks 27 years. Talent gap MAYBE.........

And then you have games like yesterday where you even have non Iowa people coming out saying that game looked fixed in the second half the way it was officiated.

So..the last ‘great win’ is 8 seasons ago?
Yeah, better part of a decade. Dang. That really hits when I say it like that.

As for the theme of this thread... That's been Iowa football under KF. The style lends itself to lots of close games. A couple years ago they managed to get seemingly all the breaks and win 10 games despite ZERO offense. Lots of 13-10 type wins over mediocre Big 10 west opponents. This year, not getting all those breaks, and heading towards a more typical 8-4/7-5 type of year.

It's why I laugh even I see all these "we are so close!" posts. Anyone who's been paying attention over the last 27 years knows this is what Iowa football has been, for the most part. Iowa seems to always be "close".

2002-04 were a generation ago..

Sounds like CFB needs a salary cap to even the playing field….🫤 (but we all know that wouldn’t work because no one would follow or enforce the rules!🤪)

And then there were the losses to Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, a one-point win over UNI and all the glorious victories over Arkansas State, UMass, UAlbany, and their ilk. You coach 27 years, you'd better beat somebody once in a while.

PSU is OSU light. Still they've done litttle in the last 15 years under franklin. Wisconsin? Lolol.. They won the B1G in really bad years at 6-2 and the 4-4 (yes 4-4 in conference) in 2012. Nothing since. MSU were some time ago as well except the fist fight with Iowa in 2015. Clearly a game Iowa could have won. Would you have fired Kirk in 2015? Who has won the B1G since then?

What about the Penn State and Rutgers games? We were lucky to win those.
Only close losses are part of the conversation, not close wins.

Last conference win on the road against a ranked team was 2015.

Lot of teams with 3 or 4 losses have close losses

I personally don’t Lester is THAT much better at being an offensive coordinator than BF. I do, however, think the offensive line is A LOT better the past 2 seasons than in 2021-2023.

REally. Since they started having an ACTUAL B1G championship, and not one where the teams never played, who has won the championship, twit.......Wisconsin won in 2012 after a 4-4 conference record, Impressive. Both MSU and PSU have ONE title, and both have played twice for a title, (the same number of times as Iowa has). OSU has FIVE titles, and Michigan three titles, and Oregon the last one.

Don’t go editing your comment. You said how many teams have won big ten titles in Kirk’s 27 years, and all those mentioned have won titles since 2004. Just take the L and move on.
