Question about refs

They obviously did a s h i t t y job today on the TWO missed facemask penalties, late hit out of bounds against Wetjen, and the countless holding penalties on USC.

So my question for those who know. What sort of post-game review process do these refs go through? Are they graded? Can they be fired or suspended?

Personally I think they should be required to face the media following each game. Like a post-game referee’s press conference. Have a monitor right there beside them at the conference, then play each missed call and ask them about it right there on camera for everyone to see.

Also makes we wonder what the refs’ reaction is when they sit down and watch replays of the game. Like, when they see the obvious facemask miss that was followed by a USC interception which ultimately lead to a USC score. Iowa was up by 2 at the time and driving. Would’ve had the ball 1st and 10 at the USC 43 had that call been made.

Do they regret it? Feel bad? Issue an apology to Iowa? I’m guessing like most refs, their egos and narcissistic personas probably made them believe they called a great game.

Any update on the Unsportsmanlike Conduct that essentially ended the game?

Who was the assistant coach and what did he do to earn the penalty?

Whoever it was, I’m guessing it was a culmination of all the missed calls throughout the game, and he finally just snapped. Can’t blame him. Those refs deserved an on-field beatdown for missing so many obvious calls.

Sure. But to what purpose? No one is ever suspended or fired. They get an F and and they get paid and they move on to their next assignment. It's all a charade.
The purpose is to foster the best officiating possible, not to fire some guy.

There is weekly training, evaluation and feedback.

I believe playoff games are awarded to the best performers. And yes, assignments get downgraded for poor performance.

Refs can also be left off a crew and even fired. But like in most industries, guys aren’t losing their jobs for a mistake here and there

It would be interesting if Tom or Blair would interview whoever is in charge of Big Ten officials.

Did any of the old PAC refs come over to the BIG when the West Coast teams were added?

Not sure if I have seen that crew before.

Either way, they had their assignment and executed it proficiently.
