Things will sort themselves out when the competition improves, but it appears the Hawkeyes have great depth, more size, and more athleticism/toughness than they did last year. Emely Rodriguez, if you will pardon me for saying so, plays more like a guy than any women's player I've seen on any team for awhile. She really brings it and is very athletic.

Hays is impressive for a player her size as a true freshman. Stremlow seems to be playing under control and with tremendous confidence and aggressiveness. I love that Taylor McCabe is always ready to shoot and is firing away without hesitation. Her defense and overall game also have improved.

Houston is confident and aggressive, Mallegni looked good in her first action of the season. At only 6-1, she's a wide body and has great potential.

Chit-Chat Wright has been amazing at the point. Although much smaller, she reminds me of Bennett Stirtz in that she just does everything so well and is always totally under control. Both play as if they're taking a stroll through the Pentacrest between classes.

Addie Deal is gaining confidence with every second on the floor. And all the veterans are looking good. Keeping everybody engaged could be a challenge, but a good challenge. This team is gonna be tough.

Agree with everything you said. It could be a problem finding "enough minutes" for everyone and hope this does not become an internal problem. Jensen and her assistants seem to be very good in the "team morale" and hope this continues with a lot of players with talent.

These are the minutes per player -

Chazadi Wright - 27.3
Hannah Stuelke - 25.0
Taylor McCabe - 21.0
Ava Heiden - 19.3
Kylie Feuerbach - 18.3
Layla Hays - 18.0
Emely Rodriguez - 17.3
Addie Deal - 17.0
Journey Houston - 13.3
Taylor Stremlow - 12.3

As we get into the conference schedule, I'd expect Heiden and Stremlow to get more minutes.

I see Deal, Houston, and Mallegni competing for minutes. Everyone else looks solid.

Last year UConn and South Carolina each had ten players averaging double digit minutes. I see the same for us this year. No way Jan can do an eight player rotation like last year.

I just think if you are going to a 10 player rotation its pretty taxing , for lack of a better word, to get the right five on the floor in a close game once the BIG starts. Hope you are correct. This old high school retired coach never had that probem with this kind of depth. lol

It will be interesting to see the minute distribution during the the two games in Florida.

For those of you worried about Deal, please note that equally highly rated Emilee Skinner ( an iowa recruiting target) playing for Duke last night. She was 1 for 9 shooting and had 4 turnovers coming off the bench last night! Deal and Skinner will both be fine college players... BTW, Duke lost.

Yup patience is needed, Addie is still in the thinking vs reacting stage, It took most of last season before things really clicked for Ava. Skinner has played in 2 games and has 6 pts, 5 assists and 10 turnovers, She is very talented and she will be fine.
