Surprisingly, despite our woes at the charity stripe, we outscored Maine at the foul line by 11 points, while shooting 62% to their 54%.

Otherwise, they outshot us from the field, including from the arc, they had more steals and more blocks, and the same number of assists.

They did have more turnovers and we had more offensive rebounds, but that amounted to only 4 more shots from the field for us, and we made only one of those.

In the final analysis, we were just flat out much better than them, leaving them no choice but to foul us frequently despite playing mostly zone defense against us.

I suppose. But look, Maine is a really bad 3 point shooting team. In addition to the 3 year benchwarmer who went 4-6 they have another junior who is now a career 27% three point shooter after going 2-4 against us. Anyone can have a lights out shooting day which is why upsets happen way more often in basketball than say sports like football.

it was basically won at the line....the game was basically even after the initial 22-6 lead where stretches of time where both teams were outplayed back and forth

Don't see how you concluded "we were just flat out much better than them." "Better than them," yes.

You realize we were up 18 points with 1:06 to go in the game, right?

Biel launched two meaningless 3s and hit both of them in the final minute of the game. The stat sheet says our perimeter D sucked, but outside of that last minute, we gave up only one 3 to their starters. Again, they had a 3rd year deep reserve kid (possibly a walk on) come in and nail 4 of 6 threes to prevent the scoreboard from being a complete laugher. That kid combined to play a total of 10 minutes in the Stonybrook and GW games. The kid did have 3 steals, 3 rebounds and an assist against us too. It’ll be interesting to see if his playing time goes up now.
