Frankly not much talk at all about Iowa other than it’s a big game.

In listening to a few USC media people speak, common theme being mentioned is PROVE IT game for Riley Saturday because Iowa considered very good team by them. Many out there still not convinced he’s the answer as a HC for SC.

There seems to be a trend amongst the former PAC teams to make up motivational reasons for their team.

Stanford and David Shaw made up some reason for the Cardinal to be butthurt before that Bowl game. Can’t remember what it supposedly was now.

Sounds like this is a common tactic by Lanning/Oregon.

Now USC using it also?

Shouldn’t the fact that it is a big game be motivation enough?

And doesn’t the team eventually catch on to the tactic? Kind of like an overly Rah-rah coach gets old after awhile(looking at you Fleck)

I suppose there are probably many teams doing it. Maybe we should come up with a bunch of reasons to be butthurt about USC too.

I’m just surprised it is effective if constantly used.

Rumor is he and team are still socializing the clip from 2 years ago from Kirk where he was throwing shade at Riley and USC for not playing defense. Interesting...
Riley should be required to then show some actual footage of USC playing defense 2 years ago.

You trying to get mad over the truth, USC?

USC trying to play the disrespect card is laughable. We all know how disrespectful KF and the Iowa players are towards opponents in interviews, give me a break.

When we beat them in the 2019 Holiday Bowl, it was like it was unbelievable to their fans that they could have possibly lost to us. I remember Matt Leinert being in disbelief in the studio.

Even though we came into the game rated higher and with a better record. It was still like we didn’t belong on the same field as them.

I remember interactions with them before the Orange Bowl. They claimed Bob Sanders would be 3rd string on their team. Funny, I don’t remember their starter becoming the NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Make no mistake about it, to them we are a slow, low talent football team. You don’t get to claim disrespect when you have a superiority complex yourself.

Ol' Doodle agrees with a lot of what you said. They are certainly an arrogant bunch, regardless of how good or bad they are year after year.

But that having been said, you might want to consider revisiting your statement about their starter not being as good as Bob Sanders.

Now, perhaps you were intentionally splitting hairs by using the words "their starter" instead of the guy's name. And yes, it is absolutely true the guy who started at strong safety for USC in that Orange Bowl didn't go on to become a big NFL star. However, it's also true that he wasn't their regular starter.

No, the normal starter merely went on to be named NFL DPOY in 2010, played in 3 super bowls winning 2, was named all pro 6x and pro bowl 8x, and is now enshrined in Canton. Oh, and he had one helluva head of hair on him too.

Doodle's just sayin'. :sneaky:

Hawks run into arrogant fan bases whenever we play SEC teams as well. Remember miss. St. Fans recoiling at losing to a bunch of farm boys?

Gotta win bigtime to get any respect and shed the slow white boy label.

Ugh Shaw's speech worked. That game was over in the first 5 minutes. And Lanning is still bitching about the Hawks scheduling and officiating. Agree.KF doesn't need these ploys to win this game! it's going to be a repeat of what the Hawks did to them a few years ago. No way is this program losing to a bunch of soft Cali kids (quacks are all LA kids) three times in a row. UCLA last year was a fluke, Hawks basically won the quack game, and USC is soft. Pound the Hawks and the plus 7, which in itself is disrespectful. Illinois beat USC !

Ya unreal. This game will be a copy-cat of the last one. Just run over this soft program. They haven't seen a qb like Gronk! Leinart lol all he did was ***** about that clown coach USC had back then, made every excuse in the book. Plus, they went through like 5 coaches in 10 years, KF has been here for 27 years! So who is the better program.
Btw, SC had Troy Poloumalu back then, I believe, but didn't play due to injury. He may had been FDP of Year. He was really good at Pittsburg.

Po lam a lu is one of the all-time great players at ANY position. I wish the Steelers could clone him and have him in his prime version for eternity.

Still think you’re the Nebraska troll.

For the most part, you’re the only one that has been calling them soft.

I wouldn’t put it past you to make these comments, posing as an Iowa fan, and then run to their forums under a different account, and try to make it look like we’re talking this soft crap.

If so, you live a very sad existence.

That's the problem though. To them, we're not allowed to say anything that could be perceived or twisted as a slight against them (or trash talk for example).

We have to be the humble ones the entire time and "earn their respect" even if, in this particular case, USC has been a shell of the cheating Pete Carroll era.

That's how they view it, and if Kirk said 2 years ago "they're gonna refocus on defense", well then that might as well have been the same as slapping Lincoln's mother and shooting his dog............................. 🙃

Iowa > Nebraska

Btw, what is it with Nebraska fans (multiple) posing as Iowa fans? Not even Iowa State fans do this anymore.........

background panel says 11 national championships. My guess is if we added all the titles that are claimed by everyone, we'd find we've been playing college football for about 400 years, haha
Lol, that's actually an interesting question. How many teams have claimed (or were at least rewarded by a reputable source) a national championship in the history of CFB? And what is the exact total for all teams combined?

I would guess it's probably well over 200, if not 250.
