You’re irritating at times. Sarcastic at times. Overly negative at times. But I don’t think you’re trolling🤔
Notice I wasn’t negative this week? For the most part I was impressed with the team in all phases. I can live with an undersized DL

It’s pretty tough to put all the Ws and Ls on a QB. There are a plethora of other factors that contribute to the record and his stats. it still is a team sport with coaches. TDs to INTs coupled with his rushing and passing yards can be a fair measure if 2 QBs are playing behind the same O line with the same play caller.

You would have to factor in some manner the level of defense they were playing against too. No doubt there’s an analytics dude out there who could plug it in to a formula and spit out a number. I don’t think QBR takes in to account the defensive matchup but I could be wrong. It’s why I say, let’s give TJL a few more games before we place the thorny crown on him.

QBs are best measured historically and even then debate is likely. I love to listen to coaches break down video of players especially QBs.
I agree with seeing what TJ can do against 2 pretty good defenses since UCLA wasn't much. TJ was able to get the ball out and on time as well as be effective as a runner. I don't think that matches Dylan's attibutes.

It was nice to see the difference in TJ from his ill-prepared situation against USC, versus his polished performance just a week later when he knew he was gonna be the man. Now that he has the job, we get to see exactly what he has to offer.

So you are suggesting the coaches in TX never watched him throw a pass in practice and never watched his 8th grade games or film of it and determined this kid is better than what we have now? And, he must not have thrown any passes at his TX school if his AZ coaches gave him the keys without ever seeing him throw a pass. By the time he got to GA, wasn't he already considered one of the top HS QBs in the country? If Quniten Ewers had transferred to Millard North for his senior year, you don't think coaches would have immediately handed him the keys without him throwing a pass in a MN game? Your premise has zero logic.

By the time the Flores kid reached his freshman year, Gretna knew he was going to be their QB for the next four years. The school even changed its no freshman can play varsity football rule for him. He might not have started the first game as a freshman, but there was no doubt he was going to be the regular QB. Why? Because the HS coaches were aware of him and had followed his development prior before his freshman year, and although they had a good kid in place who was going to be a senior, he did not have the arm talent Zane already had coming out of 8th grade. Same reason some 7th and 8th grade bball players step are penciled into a starting spot on their HS team before they ever set foot inside the highschool halls. These guys don't step onto a field or court as a freshman without ever having picked up a football or basketball
It's called being an elite athlete. Only an NU fan would find a negative in a qb being so good he's never had competition.

If he actually wanted to compete for a job he would have stayed at Ohio State or Georgia instead of coming to NU to face a QB room rated D-.

So transferring 3 times in high school, and signing with 2 different University's and setting on a subpar 3rd choice is not indicative of avoiding competition? Of course it is.

He's in his sophomore year and he's 6-2 before injury. That's a 75% winning percentage. Compare that to Amart. Now, imagine we had a good OL. That's why it's a total rebuild.
You really gonna count Akron and Houston Baptist as wins?

Of course those have to be counted as wins. Yet, boxes likes to massage the number at 6-2 when it's actually 6-3 and his 75% looks better than 67%, yet he fails to mention his overall record is 13-9 and that percentage is not eye candy.

Easy isn’t trolling. Bigboxes like myself would rather not have to deal with the possibility of Dylan leaving but in today’s NIL transfer world the possibility is real. Look at Carson Beck leaving Georgia for Miami. The days of a returning starter graciously competing for his job are over.
Pretty much. The risk is too great. If the anointed loses out to the understudy, it is career suicide to stay. But those guys were never destined for the NFL anyway, so it is only prolonging the inevitable.

The only time I agree with it was when a new coach comes in with an entirely different scheme and needed skill set. You have to take your bag of tricks elsewhere.

I get why coach Rhule went all in on Dylan. He did look like he could be a program savior. He was gonna play great and he was worth his weight in gold for recruiting skill players. It would be stupid to not fire your best shot in his direction. But with that came Rhules golden handcuffs. The only way those came off was for the goat to get injured. That’s what happened. Now we find out there are other pretty girls that wanna dance with us. Might be a better fit. Might give us a better chance to win games. New girl is pretty, smart and talented. <analogies over>

You mean he was gonna stay at Georgia and be a backup to Carson Beck, that's why Dominic was shopping for a situation for Dylan to just step in. Believe it or not, there are a LOT of schools out there where a QB like DR doesn't fit in their plans. I know back in the day, TO wouldn't have given DR a second look cause he wasn't gonna change our offense to include a QB who can't present a threat as a runner.

Luckily he found a .500 coach who doesn't seem to mind being told what to do.
Shopping? Haha Georgia and OSU were obviously a fit since both Day and Smart took his commitment. This narrative of you have to have a dual threat now is hilarious. Most of the good coaches tweak the offense based on the qb.

Listen, I get it. We thought we were getting the 34-year-old version of Tom Brady. Three step drop and he rips the seam. Touchdown!

But college football is very sloppy and plays break down all of the time. In college, I want more Lamar Jackson, and less Tom Brady. And TJ is nowhere near Lamar, but he can scramble to the marker. That extends drives, that eats clock, that leads to points, that lets your defense rest. The fact that he has a very nice arm is just gravy.

Lateef coming in at the end of year 3 is not remotely the same as DR coming in at the start or year 2 with Satterfield. Lateef literally has no pressure, in addition to having a boss RB and good experienced receivers. DR had the weight of the entire program on his shoulders.

That’s fair. But it does not change the fact that he can’t scramble or run for shid. That problem is unfixable. So as a defensive coordinator, I’m just gonna figure out how to get pressure on him, which has been surprisingly easy.

DR doesn’t seem to have a fast enough processor to run our offense well. Teams have figured him out and send 5-6 on a blitz and he’s not getting rid of it and/or our WRs aren’t open. Part of this could be him and the other is play calling. I wanted DR to work here but if we are being honest, he’s been a disappointment considering his lofty expectations. I’m not one to make excuses. Excited to see TJL now that teams can digest his film

I don’t know how this team will do in their next two games. But TJ deserves a bit of a breaking in period the same way Dylan did. If he’s making smart plays and balling out with mistakes mixed in, that’s life. How does he project?

Against USC Holgorsen had a run heavy game plan. That worked up until Raiola got hurt. Same game plan for UCLA. The difference? USC vs. UCLA. UCLA is very bad against the run. Kudos to Holgorsen for exploiting it.

If you look at the potential payroll with DR, TJ, EJ, Pritchett, Nwarnie assuming EJ and Pritchett return, that takes a pretty big bite. What is leftover for a premium OT, and a couple premium Down Linemen?
Sometimes in the NFL, a franchise moves on from a proven (good) quarterback because he commands too much money, which limits money for the rest of the roster. They then select a young QB with a much smaller salary and load up on talent around him to win.

College football is moving in that direction. Hopefully, we make the right decision in the offseason.

I actually think Dylan will come back from the injury a better quarterback, he can process what his deficiencies are, you learn to use your better skill set to your advantage similar to tommie he couldn’t pass very well but he made up for it with his athleticism, the only quarterback I saw run the option better than tommie was the late great jack mildren but it was close. Dylan just needs to learn to use his best assets just let loose

Our team is responding well to him as leader. Our coaching staff had a good game plan. Let’s see what he can do when he gets punched in the mouth.

He knew Carson was there and woulda been the starter there this year as Carson transferred out and they have a stellar OL which in some ways is better than Ohio State's. The reason he's here and didn't stay committed to them, is Rhule convinced him to come home and be part of the rebuild and he would start right off the bat as our QB room was atrocious at that point. Dylan actually wanted to come here from the beginning before the golden boy screwed that up and blew Dylan off the day of his official visit here because he thought going and partying with his buddies was more important and the reason why he almost immediately committed to Ohio St. It wasn't his fault he came into a program that had the worst OLs in our history, and has been 98% of the reason for his issues. Dylan & Dom had pretty much written us off until Dom convinced him to give us another look after Rhule was hired. Dylan has always been about legacy and loyalty and his dad is as loyal to this program as it gets. Georgia tried it's hardest to keep him from flippin out of their program but didn't work. Georgia's current QB isn't half of what Dylan is. and that's fact This is all 100% truth. Our OL which was boasted before the season as being the strength has shown how badly it isn't. and was sacked 3 times in the season opener as they couldn't hold up. the OL looked stellar against far inferior teams like Akron and Houston Christian but since has gotten eaten for lunch by every other team on the schedule starting with Michigan where he took 7 sacks. The Pass Pro has been so bad he didn't even have time to get off quick passes with defender's already in his face and held the ball to long as receivers couldn't get off their blocks and run the full progression of their route's all because of the OL and the was the reason Dylan got put out against SC. Kinda hard to anything when defenders are in your face almost immediately after Dylan takes the snap. It's so bad that 70% of the time, Dylan didn't have time to react. How many sacks has Dylan taken this year because of worse than atrocious blocking even when he stepped up in the pocket to try and avoid and there were defender there as well taking away lanes for him to run to avoid. A bit of this is on the playcalling as well.

Interesting to read the critiques (which tend towards blanket criticism) of Dylan. He has made some scrambles to get away from pressure and either run or throw for key first downs or touchdowns. He has taken off running- designed or scrambles- to get some yardage or first downs. He has zipped some throws into tight spots(late in games especially) to get us tds and first downs. Some make it sound like he never does any of these.
In my opinion, one of the problems is that Holgorsen wants to call it like Dylan can do it all rather than let the team(particularly EJ) shoulder some of the load. As Rhule has said, sometimes we call things like the team we want to be rather than the team we can be at that moment.

I meant at this point if he chooses to enter the portal

Duh
He goes to Ohio St, he'll beat out Sayin' as he does have a better arm, and better touch on his passes as well as intangibles that Julian does not possess. Just like Dylan, Julian doesn't have quick twitch nor is he fleet of foot but Julian doesn't have the ability to make something out of nothing Dylan does and has proven that. Julian is nothing more than a system QB. His stats are the product of a stellar OL. had Julian been here, he wouldn't even have a 70% completion rate and that is fact. Dylan ended the season with a 72.3% completion rate all with a garbage OL protecting his back. I shoulda corrected, he didn't have the most completion and attempts in the country, he just had the most out of the top 5 QBs in the nation. Plus Dylan's completion percentage was higher than Mendoza's and Moor's. The only 1 higher in this conference was Sayin.

He never signed with anyone other than Nebraska.

They left Texas because 2 years earlier they moved to Dallas area because the sister was at TCU playing volleyball and moved back to Phoenix when she was done playing. He did not leave any single one of the high schools because he was running from competition. Each place he went actually had better players
He played 2 years in Texas for John KItna at Burleson High School
Went to Chandler AZ for a year then left to go to Pinnacle High in Phoenix, who played for the state title the year before. Then they found out he would have to sit out 5 games, and he had just committed to Georgia, they moved to Buford instead.

I kind of agree at least with the QB coach. It seems both Dana and Matt don't like Dylan to hold the ball so long but maybe he just feels like he's gonna do the progressions regardless??
  • On quarterback and offensive line responsibility: Payton believes sacks are more a quarterback stat than an offensive line stat. He famously said, "The sack numbers are a reflection more on the quarterback than the offensive line," a point he has made multiple times, according to Broncos Wire and Joe Rowles on X.
  • He said taking sacks is the one thing you can't coach out of a quarterback

Kid grew up a husker fan his whole life. I’ve tried to make the point it was much harder path to come to Nebraska to help rebuild the program vs going to Ohio St / Georgia where you have access to the top lines and receivers on day 1 along with dominance in other facets of the game too.

sure he got playing time right away but I don’t think he left the others to not compete - he grew up wanting to be a husker and we had a coach who he believed in.
