I don’t think you could turn down that haul for Gardner.

I hate trading Q, but word he is that he asked out, so at least they got a good return.

If you can be 1-7 with him, you can be 1-7 without him (and bank more picks).

Glad the Jets got 2 additional #1 picks in 27.

Hopefully they can get their franchise qb in 27 given none exist for 26 draft

I am still on the fence about Mendoza.

A lot of people think it is a shot at him to say he has a ceiling of being Jared Goff. Well, Jared Goff would be the best QB in the history of the franchise and got to a Super Bowl, and I am more concerned about the certainty that they get someone decent rather than the hope of hitting a complete home run.

I can’t live through another complete bust.

The Jets will screw up any QB they draft.

I don’t know about the 2026 QB class. It was being hyped prior to the season but I don’t see anyone that looks like a real big time prospect. The Jets don’t necessarily have to take a QB high in ‘26. They have 3 1st rd picks in the ‘27 draft. Some draft analysts think the ‘27 draft overall could be one of the best in memory. With QBs, my personal opinion is do not draft a QB high if he does not have at least 25 college starts. Also, I would be very cautious about drafting QBs from “powerhouse” programs (OSU, Georgia, Bama etc) where the team usually has a distinct talent advantage in 80% or 90% of the games they play.

Let's not forget Christian Hackenberg. Second rounder who never even appeared in a single NFL game in his career.
That was one of the worst picks they ever made. I have no idea what their scouting dept saw in him. Having seen many of his games at PSU, I thought he was not that good of a college QB. Hackenberg was a 5 star QB out of HS. Similarly, Allar from PSU was a 5 star QB in HS and he reminds me of a bigger , slightly more athletic Hackenberg. The Jets better not draft Allar.

Jets win two in a row and this thread is silent. First time in team history they have a KO return and punt return go for TDs in the same game.
Hall ices the game in the 4th.

I get why some fans still want them to win any game they play, but to me they did nothing but hurt draft position.

I can get behind a team in the Jets situation winning when some young players who will be part of the future start showing how they will be valuable to it.Instead, the Jets win a game when a team with the worst D in the league and a 40 year old QB imploded, and played badly against the Browns but managed to be the only team since 1950 to win despite certain things they did.

Nothing about these wins is translatable to a better future.

Krup,
I see and understand your points. But at my age I need a few victories to make watching them worth while. I'm a live for today person. And don't forget Herm Edwards.

I totally get it. The first one especially because no one wants to go winless.

Yesterday, though, the Jets completely deserved a loss and only won because of some special teams plays, so I have nothing to build on.

I compare that to the Saints, who also won yesterday and hurt their draft position but it’s a good win because Tyler Shough had a good game at QB and gave them a reason to consider him as a possible answer at that position.

I understand why some wish a team would “tank” to get a very high draft choice. I don’t think it is a reasonable expectation . These are professional players and coaches and their future employment depends on them doing everything they can to win each week. As a longtime Jets fan, I’ve seen many high draft picks. Some work out but it is very much a crap shoot , especially if you are talking about QBs. The Jets now have multiple high draft picks for the ‘26 and ‘27 drafts. Hopefully the picks they do make help them build a winning team, I’m not holding my breath. I root for the Jets to win every game they play, I’ll worry about the draft when it happens.

I get people rooting for wins, but empty wins like yesterday are an overall loss to me. They need to be able to use as many of the picks they have as possible on players, not trading up, because they have a lot of holes.

ORGANIZATIONS tank. See Brooklyn Nets. Their owner has basically admitted it.

PLAYERS do not tank. Every Jet in uniform has a desire to win that a non-athlete like myself cannot even imagine.

COACHES are kind of caught in the middle. Like players, they crave victory. But they are constrained by the organizational decisions made above the them.

I share your conclusion. Just win games, as many as you can. There'll be time enough for counting when the dealing's done.

I would add that there's nobody in this draft worth tanking for.

Even if teams could tank I would not tank, or trade significant draft capital, for Mendoza, but I would draft him if he was available at their spot.

He may not have the highest ceiling compared to some of the other guys, but he appears to be pretty solid and accumulated a strong history of a lot of games started with good stats that continually improved as he gained experience playing for two schools in three different conferences.

Considering the Jets have busted on every QB they take, it wouldn’t be the worse thing in the world to take a guy whose upside is viewed as Cousins or Goff but appears more sure of getting to that point.

Tank for Mendoza.

after watching that kid this season I think he could be special.
They shouldn’t and they won’t do that . Mendoza is the only QB this year who I could see drafting in the top 5. He is no guarantee but the other potential QBs who have eligibility left need to go back to college, they are not ready. That includes Moore, Manning, Simpson, Sellers , etc. Mendoza has had a long journey and wasn’t heavily recruited, I like that. He has good size, a good arm and is accurate most of the time. He seems tough on the field. The one side thing that I have some concern of is that he seems to posture with the press and publically spouts his faith/religious inspiration. If things don’t go well on the field, that won’t fly in the NY/NJ market.

Brady Cook is not an NFL-quality QB, but for the rest of 2025 he will be an excellent Tank Commander.

With the Colts in a desperate situation after losing QB Jones for the year, I can’t believe they are kicking the tires on Phillip Rivers ! The guy couldn’t move around when he was 30, now he is getting into his mid 40’s. The Colts are suddenly in rough shape, Jones could be out to the middle of next season and you have to wonder about his future with the many injuries. All this after they gave up 2 1st rd and a 2nd rd draft pick to the Jets for Sauce Gardner.
