Are we going with just regular helmet look for this game?
I believe we stopped changing helmets with each alt uniform because of the cost, which is why the last several have been with the standard helmet with some decal variation. Several years ago Iowa went to the new helmets which are crafted for each players head They are form fitted. Each helmet cost about $1000 if I remember. Doing a new helmet for each alt uni would cost over $100,000 just for the helmets

Thats the last time we wore a different helmet I believe.

We have the coolest logo in college football, I love the regular helmets but yeah they should take out the stripe and change them up however they can for alt uni games. I think for the Minnesota game several years ago when they wore new all blacks they took off the yellow stripe and had a yellow outline of the state of Iowa centered on the back, looked badass.

***EDIT: Yes, the helmet did have the yellow outline of the state of Iowa with ANF inside it. These unis were so cool.

Hayden anticipated the trend of alternate uniforms and tried to accommodate it. The result wasn't great, but he saw the future. If you really wanna wonder about some program getting high on alt unis, you need look no further than Oregon. They've been wearing some of the most outrageous, ridiculous excuses for uniforms for quite a while.
Agreed - most of Oregon’s unis are hideous.

Yep. They've done several things with the regular helmet, changing the decals, the size of the decal, going without the stripe, and even going plain black for some memorials, ( I believe when coach Fry passed).

If they're going black out they should've gone these...

The "blackout" unis that are nothing more than our regular home jerseys our regular helmet and the black pants w/gold stripe just look dumb. Especially the black pants with gold stripe, fugly.

I didn’t like these jerseys when I saw the pictures in the preseason. But when I saw these guys walk out of the tunnel in all black, in a Kinnick blackout, vs Minnesota, to keep an undefeated season going? Immediately changed my mind. I want these ones back BAD.

Only thing I'm not a fan of is the "IOWA" across the chest, would rather it have nothing above the # or if anything maybe a small tigerhawk, but the "IOWA" isn't that large so not a big deal. Agree, badass alt uni's.

As I recall, those “banana peel” uniforms were created by a company called Apex. Apex actually made uniforms for several college teams, all featuring garish shoulder designs.

I'm not sure why that game isn't more popular amongst the fanbase just in review? That second half after our starters were pulled we outscored them 35-0. That was as one of the most bizarre Hawkeye games I ever watched. The first half I thought Ohio State would drop 100 on us and then in the second half, I thought we could come back with our backups. And yes, banana peel is definitely a fashion period best forgotten 😂😭

It was quite a memorable game as ESPN had Gameday there, but we didn't actually play our backups all second half (and we scored our first TD at the tail end of the first half when Sherman fumbled into the end zone and Shaw recovered it). In fact, Dwight caught a TD and Shaw scored a rushing TD for our last two fourth quarter TDs. Sherman threw for 334 and Shaw ran 30 times, obviously most of that came in the second half too. Now OSU might've pulled their starters then entire second half. That was a great OSU team, but they got ran over by Tim Biakabatuka and lost their undefeated season, then lost to Tennessee and some sophomore nobody Manning that never went on to do anything. But talentwise they were superior to any of their national title times IMO.

Meh, I'm fine with the alt uniforms once a year (I agree about the overkill though). I do wish they would use uniforms that worked well more than once though.

Like the 1939 throwbacks or arguably their best alts, the 1960 uniforms. That one should be worn annually once a year, if not moreso.

Those are sweet, along with the 2017 alternatives against Ohia State.

Hayden was ahead of his time with stuff like this. Steelers uniform design. Tigerhawk. ANF sticker. The guy just got it.
