I think going to an inside outside game, Jan will be looking at entry passes a lot in the early season. Who is willing and able to make those passes

I think Deal won't start only if Jan thinks she's not ready to play at the B1G level. Which would be terrible for us. Kyle and McCabe started last season and got a lot of minutes, each had 6 PPG. Their ceiling could rise a bit, but there's no magic. Their roles are important, but they're not scorer players. Iowa need Deal and Rodriguez to down buckets and fill the scoring void left by Lucy and Syd (26 PPG).

It would be a disaster. Deal needs to be on the court from the get-go so she'll be ready for the conference. Going with vets because they're vets is not smart coaching and is poor messaging to 5-star recruits.

Thing to remember is you need multiple people you trust to break the press in lineups.

I’d steer away from certain combinations for long stretches.

Great minds think alike! It’s a done “deal”. Looks like she starts and plays 30+ minutes. I hope Jan takes our input seriously 😂

Very tough to figure out minutes with so many options. I think you did a great job here...the only one I question is Rodriguez only getting 10 minutes. I think she will get more somehow.
Yes she will. Lets face it when we get into the meat of the schedule Johnson, Jada and probably Levin won't be hitting the floor most likely unless we are blowing someone out , injury or serious foul trouble. You just can't play that many.

Stremlow and Feuerbach are team captains. I suspect both will start along with Heiden, Stuelke and Wright.

Deal, Rodriguez, McCabe, Hays, Mallegni next five. At least starting the season.

I'm not a betting man, but I'd take that bet all day. No way Stremlow starts over Deal. Deal will start even if that moves CC Wright to back her up.

Reportedly Deal is a great passer, as is Wright. Mccabe, NO.......and honestly neither is Kylie. She makes poor decisions passing. I'd play her at the 3 with Deal/Wright at guard.....

I don't necessarily see Stremlow starting especially over Deal, but I saw Stremlow make some nice passes last year and a couple no look passes on the fast break that were pretty awesome.

Deal will not start at the beginning of the year.
Deal will not start at the beginning of the year.
Okay, I guess we'll see. I'd say that would be a BIG mistake for multiple reasons. For one if Jan wants to keep recruiting top 5-15 level 5 star players that sends a bad message. say what you want, but players at that level have expectations. Second there is NO one on this roster with her skill set. NO one. Third NONE of the returning back court players is a proven scorer. NONE of them. We lost our top 2 scorers, rebounders, and passers in the frontcourt in Lucy and Syd. (Deal is a three level scorer, great passer, and rebounder). After 4 or 5 years in college neither Kylie or McCabe is a proven scorer who can "get theres", OR facilitate for others. In all fairness Kylie is a really poor post passer, who either doesn't know when or how to feed the post. McCabe is not a scorer unless she's open from three point range, and has made TWO 2 pt shots in her THREE years in college. Addy Deal has played her entire career at the highest level of prep and AAU, AND team USA basketball. She's a McDonalds AA. Maturity wise she'll basically the same age as a college junior. We've had one player with credentials anything like hers, and that was CC22, and frankly Deal played against WAY better competition in high school then Clark did.

It really doesn't matter who starts. After the first 4 or 5 minutes of the game Deal will be in and probably get more minutes than McCabe anyway. I'm just saying that I don't think Deal will start at the beginning of the year. Maybe after 8 to 10 games then yes. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong no big deal. Just my opinion.

Spot on! And as far as Kylie, spot on, her passing scares me.

I've watched Jan for the past 10 years and I know her substitution pattern. Like I said on another post if I'm wrong I'm wrong I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
Not this time! Deal is the real deal. She starts. Do you think Jan starts Stremlow because she’s deserving of it because she’s been around? God I hope not that would be the wrong move.

I would rather bring McCabe off the bench - it's nice to bring that outside threat off the bench sometimes. Minutes can be determined by if she's ON or not.

It depends on Deal's mentality. If she's playing a big chunk of minutes and playing with the "closing" 5, that would be okay for awhile. Starting isn't nearly as important as closing. Sadly, kids and parents don't always see it that way.

She is the Hawkeye's defacto candidate for B1G Freshman of the Year
