SHU is an afterthought. A total embarrassment for the men's program. Sha better get this in gear. He wasn't hired to make the school's BB program irrelevant.

He has my support and I hope all our Pirate fans as well. Another season like last year's and I'm not sure how we are ever going to dig ourselves out of the hole.

It must slowly begin NOW!

Without money to pay the better players, this is what will happen year in year out. Sha's not going to get anything in gear if he doesn't have the horses...

Ugh, Sha said Godswill and Felton started both scrimmages.

It seemed he may have just rewarded them for staying and he doesn't really consider them as starters.

Why such a negative tone all of a sudden?

This is a preseason coaches poll. There isn’t much thought put into it. We were 2-18 and an afterthought at the end of last season.

When your top two additions are a player from the MAAC and an incoming frosh who needs development…Any predictions are going to lean towards a repeat finish.

They could be 9th, 10th, or 11th and still be better than last year in terms of total wins and on court competitiveness.

But no one outside of SHU is going to look at a completely brand new roster with zero high D1 historical production and predict any significant growth in the standings.

They never do this, but it would be interesting to see what a poll like this would look like if conducted after the non-conference schedules are completed.

Sha is not perfect nor blameless and he does have a long way to go towards becoming the “CEO” of the program but he’s really the least responsible out of everyone for the bad season and subsequent low expectations. If you doubt that, ask yourself two questions: 1. Would the NIL situation be any better with the same administration/AD and a different coach? 2. If Sha had NIL in 2024 to retain Kadary and Dre would they have won 7 games last year?

I think that’s exactly what he said, and that both of their spots in the rotation are not solidified in stone. The only sure starter is Budd.

The tone is not negative. It's reality. I didn't say it would happen, I said if it happens. And I also said he has my support.

This is a very important year for both Holloway and Seton Hall. We can become an also ran if what happened last season happens again. I don't expect that to happen but there is nothing wrong with mentioning the consequences if it does.

I've been to about 12 Big East Media Days and today there was zero mention of the Pirates regarding every single award. That's never happened in my memory and is embarrassing as there are only 11 teams in the conference.

We have to do better and that starts today.

Exactly…. I have no idea who is on butler, DePaul or Georgetown. But when our players are from small schools and low level conferences I expected this. Especially after last year.

we have another roster that’s likely misfit pieces and lack of productive big men. Do we have more size? Yes, But are they skilled and actually productive? If we don’t have a guard or wing that can be a lead go to scorer we’ll struggle just like last year.

I remember being shocked when last years pre season poll came out. Then we actually performed worse than that…. If they knew that last year, maybe they’re right again. Not a good sign

And BTW, my prediction of 8-12 in the league was the most positive of anyone here. So clearly I believe in this team. But you cannot ignore the consequence if we don't come close to that total.

We were picked second to last preseason in 2024. Depaul was picked last. But yes most thought we would be better than that.

Like most years, the 2024 preseason poll was somewhat of a barometer of ultimate performance with certain exceptions.

Last year it was:

Uconn
Creighton
X
Marquette
St. John's
Providence
Nova
Butler
Gtown
Hall
Depaul

The coaches got the first 5 right last year, but the order was a bit off. Uconn, which got every first place vote last year except for one, was of course very good but didn't run away with the league like folks thought (and I thought they deserved the preseason ranking coming off 2 titles and their roster). SJU obviously made a much bigger jump, which is why Pitino won every coaching award you can win last season. The preseason poll was probably most "wrong" about Providence, who finished much lower than projected. Butler, to a lesser extent as well. Gtown was a bit higher than what was projected too.

Maybe negative was the not the proper word choice, as I was not referring to your 8-12 prediction.

Disgruntled is probably a better assessment. As you are clearly annoyed that they did not get any preseason respect, whether it was standings or player accolades.

I’m curious, if you were a non Seton Hall observer, who should have gotten a Preseaon All Big East selection?

Also many people who were “realistic” here said NIL combined with the transfer portal rules had the potential to be the death of the Seton Hall MBB program the minute it all rolled out. And that had nothing to do with Sha and ONLY about $$$$.

For the first time last year we saw the full effect of what that could do to the roster when you can’t retain any of your players. The Kadary / Dre / Dawes season was an anomaly as the transfer restrictions were not lifted until after the season began. Otherwise 2023-2024 would have been a similar experience.

No, I do not believe the Pirates deserved any pre-season recognition. But that's what bothers me. Not that they didn't get it but that they didn't
deserve it. And that my point about change. If it doesn't change then the consequences down the road will be dire. We cannot again finish with the worse record in the league while not even being competitive. Sha is better than that but he must prove it.

I think he will, but that's not a guarantee by any means.
