Taking my 31-year-old son to Kinnick this Saturday for his first visit and the first time I've been back since 1985. Still have to score tickets, but I don't think that will be a problem. I'm sure a lot has changed since the mid-80s, so what advice can you give me? Parking, tailgating, super-secret stadium tips, etc.?

The stadium is more or less completely changed since the 1980s. You will not tlrrcognize anything

they sell beer now

no stand up tight ends or counter runs

there are permanent lights and bigger scoreboards

hawks can’t pass the ball anymore

the bathrooms have stall doors and no more pee trough

outside of that, nothing has changed

Hope you score the tickets. How far are you travelling?

You will not need your rain jacket like you did in 85. Sadly, we aren’t as good as were that year but I like our chances vs the Rodents.

Good luck with parking.

What does this even mean? Find your way to the south side of IC, highway 1, ( avoid Melrose or Coralville or Dubuque St ) get on Benton St to George St and you'll find 25 dollar parking to 45 as you get closer to the stadium. The price difference is about 3 extra blocks to walk. Weather man says cloudy, no rain, light winds and 58 degrees. I'd be looking for those parking spots by 11:00 or so...

Sit in north endzone if you want extra leg room and experience the deafening level of noise that comes from that end of the field.

I wish they would redo the south endzone like the north end. The noise level would be insanely louder which is hard to believe with how loud it gets. You know it’s loud when Trace McSorley said Kinnick is the loudest stadium he has ever played in both college and pro.

I think Brommelkamp has a great quote about this: "as a kid locking eyes with a grown man trying to take a dump in the kinnick stadium door less stalls still gives me nightmares."
I remember this and it wasnt Todd. And I think it was "you are not a man until you have locked eyes with an old man while taking a dump...."

The south west is a lot of students there now. Not sure where they would move them to and not take up "premium" seating. I'd say line them along the east side bench, but there'd be too much trouble.

Back in the 80s didn't they have a Scottish Highlander deal at half time with the bag pipes and such or I am just totally off base?

Sit in the NE endzone grass. Best seats in the house.

Parked at Finkbine golf course last Saturday. I used to park on North end of stadium, but gave that up a few years ago as we left Iowa. I was absolutely amazed at how easy Finkbine ended up. Yes we had to walk a ways before and after the game, although if you can't walk that far there were plenty of peddletaxis available to get a ride. We were staying with friends about 10 miles West of Iowa City, and even though we stayed until the clock hit zero, we were back in the living room watching football in less than an hour from the end of the game. Over the years for night games it might have been an hour before we got to the strip in Coralville from our old parking spot. Sitting on the SW end of the stadium, and traveling to the West is a factor in this too.
