His comment re: "I feel we did not make them earn it" is both inaccurate and inappropriate. we saw two very determined teams last night, and it was obvious that whoever prevailed, would have earned it.

I have always believed in giving credit where credit is due. Even with somebody like Nebraska, I respect them for the blue blood that they were/are/might become.

very true, we gave them 14 points. first on the interceptionat the start (which they would not have scored on if not for a penalty on Iowa) and then the field goal scoop & score, which most of us realize was not too percipient of a call by Ferentz. so, actually, the converse is more true.

Both staffs weren’t too bright with decisions.

Kirk did what Kirk always does and bailed out but some unthinkable play(s), meaning having your Fullback/QB with a knee injury rumble for 130 yards and it’s what wins the game…..not sure any of us saw that coming

PSU….their decision to basically go for every 4th down…..specifically the one where they’ve got a chance to pin Iowa deep….not smart

The 8 WR dropping pass in the end zone….was very IA relatable

I feel IA has returned to the Petras era of offense. We need 50 play drives, but our best most explosive weapon……a 230lbs QB to lead our rushing attack.

I thought he was a little over the top and appeared to be in over his head….his whole ‘us against the world’ mantra got old…I am guessing he wanted to try and prove he would be a viable replacement to Franklin, which didn’t happen.😎

Yes, Pat Angerer on the radio call said the hawks were just making too many mistakes in the first half including poor tackling and angles by the defense. Some of the poor tackling went into the 2nd half but then psu missed some big tackles also.

I think the psu coach was probably talking about the very poor tackling and rallying to the ball on Grono's big run. But really that is a comment to keep in your locker room to tell the team. All you have to do is say the opponent played well and leave it at that.

Bo Schembechler was a notorius coach for not giving his opponent credit, especially Hayden Fry.

Moulton averaged 5.8 yards per carry and I thought we went to the pass too early after our all running play second drive.

And I think we threw the ball on our first play which put us behind the chains. I thought and heard PEnn St had a really good secondary against the pass and they really held down oregon so establish the run and pick your 1st down passing opportunities

Again, I said it in the game thread....he acts like how a coordinator would act.

He's an interim coach, and will not get the head coach job, nor do I think he'd be comfortable with it.

Coordinators are often the much more outspoken ones, but behind closed doors, or from the sidelines where the focus isn't on them.

Last night, it was on Smith, though.

I found his comment about needing to "empty the clip" to be very inappropriate, given the climate of gun violence in the country. Also, it's called a magazine, not a clip.

The comment reeks of a "they didn't win, we lost" mentality.

Some things in college football never change, and everthing about the Penn State football program has always been extremely smug, from their mascot name, to their "we are" chant, and any of the head coaches.

Agreed. This is a typical blue blood issue with both coaches and fans. They don't lose often, so can't deal with a loss to a non-blue blood program when it happens. I'm always happy to serve humble pie to the PSU / Mich / OSUs of the league.

Between that comment and the way he acted with the refs during most of the game last night, my only response to Terry Smith is,

The blue blood fans truly believe they should get even somewhat close call to go their way. Because it often does. If for some reason it doesn't, it's a shock to their system. Michigan is probably the worst. But PSU fans are pretty close. Honestly most years OSU doesn't need the gifts because their talent is so much better.

You'd think with the way his team played in an environment like Kinnick, he'd be more proud of their effort, especially after laying an egg against Northwestern of all programs in Happy Valley the week prior. Given, we did hand them at least 14 points last night.

Looked like both teams were trying to lose to one another. Why is the Iowa staff always getting out coached by interim no bodies like Penn U this year and Nebby at few years back. Not a good sign. Oh well hopefully the rest of the teams are playing 3rd team stiff qbs.

Honestly, save for a few plays such as the two bootlegs, from a football standpoint it was not a well-played game, either by the players and the coaches.
Wait until you watch this Minnesota mess. Two bad teams trying to lose to one another again.

I guess he feels they "earned" the block FG return for a TD? Also I guess he feels they "earned" Drew's other missed FG. Huge turns in points on those.

Amazing Penn State didn't have a ton of false starts with the noise.
Penn U is a well interim coached team ! W ait until TJ gets here. He loves nothing more than beating Iowa. The way he intimidates officials even on the road is amazing. Row the Boat is coming after the Hawks again.
