Tonight 2 poor efforts. Under KF seems like this has been a huge weak spot. Curious what iowas % or how many we’ve tired and succeeded on under KF. Let alone last one we converted.
It has to be bad….the attempted fade to Parker was a head scratcher for sure….Tonight 2 poor efforts. Under KF seems like this has been a huge weak spot. Curious what iowas % or how many we’ve tired and succeeded on under KF. Let alone last one we converted.
I mean….2x tonight the bottle worked for a TD and game icing first downYep Where's Chuck Long's bootleg when you need it or some of Hayden's 'Exotics'?
I know in 16’ converted a run against Minny in a 14-7 W and broke a string of many failed attempts. I can’t think of one since. Sure there has but remember a lot of failed ones since. Speaking of Stanley still remember getting stuffed on a great tackle inches before goal line at Wisconsin late in a game we lost 24-22 in 19’.I remember Iowa going through a stretch, maybe during the Stanley era, where they were unsuccessful in like 13 straight two point conversion attempts. That’s almost mathematically impossible, given that the success rate is like 40%.
My immediate memory and feelings are that KF is about 20% on two pt conversions. He usually doesnt have the really good running qb, and receivers to stretch out those plays and make a defense squirmTonight 2 poor efforts. Under KF seems like this has been a huge weak spot. Curious what iowas % or how many we’ve tired and succeeded on under KF. Let alone last one we converted.
Agreed. Great calls...caught everyone off guard. I was talking about extra point attempts. Lester might have tried a bootleg in one as I don't think he's gotten one since he's been OC.I mean….2x tonight the bottle worked for a TD and game icing first down
I was most upset about passing it twice. It just wasn't gonna be there tonight, as where Gronowski, Moulton and Williams are pretty stout in short yardage situations.
I get it. You make the 2pt and it makes it a 3 point game. If you kick the PAT, then you're still need a TD.Shouldn’t have chased points on that first attempt. It reminded me of the Iowa state loss last year doing that. Fun game tonight!
The thing is they should have gone for 1 in the first one missing that forced them to go for the second on. Overa the Hawks overcame giving psu 19 points.Tonight 2 poor efforts. Kick for 1pt every time unless you're behind and won't have enough possessions to even the scoreAnd there was ZERO reason to have tried any 2pt conversions. You don't chase points going for 2 in the 3rd quarter.......ever.
You kick that XP and then there's no reason for the 2pt attempt later.
I never expected Gron. to be able to run like he did, long and short runs, due to leg issues-that was great. The passing mystifies me as I thought we were getting a good passing qb. Hope that still lies ahead, time is starting to run short.I was most upset about passing it twice. This. I know what the sheet says, but IMO you don't even look at the sheet before the 4th quarter. Had we kicked the extra point on the first one, we're kicking for a three point lead on the second. Chasing points early usually leaves you chasing more points.Never chase points until it is absolutely necessary
The Gronowski naked boot is the same concept, and it worked every time they ran it . . . and for huge gains. So what's Iowa's weakest offensive scheme? The dropback pass. So what do they run on BOTH 2-point tries? A dropback pass, neither of which ever had a chance. What the hell is Lester thinking?Yep Where's Chuck Long's bootleg when you need it or some of Hayden's 'Exotics'?
Stanley completed a tackle eligible pass for a 2-point conversion @ PSU. Where the hell are those plays? It's the only time Iowa has run that one in 27 years. Keep running the stuff that doesn't work, and forget the stuff that does.I remember Iowa going through a stretch, maybe during the Stanley era, where they were unsuccessful in like 13 straight two point conversion attempts. That’s almost mathematically impossible, given that the success rate is like 40%.
And PSU STILL doesn't know Gronowski had the ball. LOLI mean….2x tonight the bottle worked for a TD and game icing first down
Out of how many attempts?I looked up the number tonight in the NCAA national stats archive.
Iowa, from the 2016 season to this year, has scored on 5 two pt conversion attempts.
2016- 1; 2020- 3; 2023- 1
I’d guess 5 for 25Out of how many attempts?
Loved that play.Yep Where's Chuck Long's bootleg when you need it or some of Hayden's 'Exotics'?
Unless you don't trust your kicker......This. I know what the sheet says, but IMO you don't even look at the sheet before the 4th quarter. Had we kicked the extra point on the first one, we're kicking for a three point lead on the second. Chasing points early usually leaves you chasing more points.
More than 5.................Out of how many attempts?
Apparently the coach thinks he's good enough to make a 66 yd field goal.Unless you don't trust your kicker......
The only thing I can figure is they they run it in practice with some success, and then when the lights are on they can't execute. Otherwise you're right. It makes no sense whatsoever. The Gronowski naked boot is the same concept, and it worked every time they ran it . . . and for huge gains. So what's Iowa's weakest offensive scheme? The dropback pass. So what do they run on BOTH 2-point tries? A dropback pass, neither of which ever had a chance. What the hell is Lester thinking?
If you go for two, you'd better have a few plays designed specifically for that situation, plays that are the next best thing to a certainty. So either you roll Gronowski out on the RPO, or you run Lester's version of the naked boot.
The foolishness in the coaching is mind boggling. People are being paid millions, and this is what they come up with? Incredible.
Did you find the overall attempts? I would expect 20+I looked up the number tonight in the NCAA national stats archive.

Some of those passes over the heads of the receivers is because the receivers are not getting open.. OUr receivers cant get open on fade routes, period Grono is basically airmailing those passes out of boundsI never expected Gron. to be able to run like he did, long and short runs, due to leg issues-that was great. The passing mystifies me as I thought we were getting a good passing qb. Hope that still lies ahead, time is starting to run short.
