Thought Jan's comments today about "you just can't go all national" in recruiting were interesting:

". . . Then if there was ever a time when with the commitment of Addie Deal and others, if there was ever a time to keep broadening that, I thought it was the time to go for it, with the more national angle.

I’ve learned some things over that. You can’t just go all national, right? There has to be some connections and some shared value sets in how a young woman wants to play or what she’s most comfortable playing, if she has any interest in the Midwest or not. Sometimes we’ve chased a little bit too long probably a lead that wasn’t really ever going to be one or be a Hawkeye, but we’ve learned some of the best practices and not such good practices. But the timing was right to go for it, and we’ve hit it on some really quality people. Our core will always be the Midwest and certainly our state."

Wonder who is/are the player/s that Iowa "chased a little bit too long." Wonder if the '27 class will see Iowa be more interested/aggressive in the Midwest.

I was wondering what to read into Jensen's comment, but also remembering that her immediate recruiting thoughts right now are geared closely to the big OV coming up with the girl playing in the back yard. And then, of course, started trying to read into that thought as well.

Hard to know where the focus will be coming up, but difficult to look into anything going forward with the portal game being what it is. Results from this season might have a say in it as well.

I think it's a good approach. Some girls are affected by the online anti-CC and anti-Iowa agenda. I think they're harder to recruit. I think it goes into what Jan said about girls who will never be a Hawkeye. I mean, Iowa was on the national stage with back-to-back finals, and the whole CC effect affected all these girls in the classes of 2026, 2027, 2028, and beyond. Why waste time recruiting a girl who joined the online haters of Iowa and CC when you can recruit an Iowa fan and CC fan? She doesn't have to be from the Midwest. Now Iowa is a national brand, but don't waste time with fans of Angel Reese, LSU, South Carolina, and UConn. I'm not saying it's impossible to recruit them, but you can , for example, lose an Iowa fan and CC fan under your eyes like Aaliah Spaight (#20 in the 2026 class - PG) because you were trying to recruit a girl who hates CC and Iowa and would never be a Hawkeye.

On-line fans of Clark far outweigh the number of Clark haters (and a good portion of those idiots are anti-WNBA and/or anti-WBB anyway).

In general, Clark is overwhelmingly positively viewed by the general public (and even the haters will tune-in to watch her play).

IMO it’s hard to overestimate the beneficial effect Clark has generated for Iowa with the next generation of WBB phenoms, the small minority of “haters” notwithstanding.

Certainly Greenway who we chased for 4 years, and the last year it seemed like she had little interest in Iowa

Caitlin is extremely popular among the general public, but that's not what I'm talking about here. I'm talking about the fanbases, the media, and the players who are jealous of the attention she receives. There's a powerful anti-CC and anti-Iowa agenda, with many people trying to turn all this into a race war. If you haven't noticed it yet, it's because you're not paying attention. And it's something that affects younger girls so much that some are embarrassed to publicly say they're Caitlin fans, especially black girls. It's a very sad thing these people do. Caitlin revolutionized the WBB, and many people try to erase and diminish that out of ego and jealousy. On the other hand, Iowa's back-to-back finals run and the CC effect also positively impacted many girls, and it's these girls who should be priority for Iowa's recruiting.

I think that in the 28 class we will be more Midwest. There is a lot of Midwest talent in that class, especially in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

Or we had little interest in her.
lol no ….no way Iowa closed the door on one of the most prolific scorers in American high school bb history ….who is also the daughter of a Iowa AA alums.

If Greenway somehow changes her mind, the full court press is back on.

As someone that lives thousands of miles away from Iowa...only thing I have ever seen in person is people watching women's basketball that never did before and loving Caitlin.

Have never seen any anti Iowa or Caitlin bs

I believe you don't use social media much. For those who don't use social media, the racial and political war that WNBA players, the media, and old-school fans have trying create against Caitlin and her fans might not be noticeable. These people say almost daily that they hate Caitlin's fans and are basically constantly trying to create narratives to accuse them of racism. They treat Caitlin terribly, out of hurt egos and jealousy. They can't accept that the most popular player of all time is a white, straight girl from Iowa and not someone from a blue-chip program like UConn, South Carolina, or LSU, so they're constantly trying to create narratives to tarnish the reputation of Caitlin and her fans (remember the false accusation that fever fans were making monkey noises for Angel Reese in Indiana?). You're lucky you don't know about all this crap, but I believe it has a huge influence on younger girls. After all, many of these WNBA players are idols for these girls, and hearing them express anger and jealousy toward Caitlin and her fans must have an impact on them.

Social media algorithms give you more of what you interact with. You seem to be interacting a lot with Caitlin hate, so you see more of it- so much that you think it is a "racial and political war.".
Social media is not reality.

Yes, I'm interact to defend Caitlin, but it's good for you to be detached from reality and not see an official statement from the WNBA giving support to false accusations of racism against Fever Fans, not to see the horrible comments from WNBA players, the commissioner herself, and journalists about Caitlin. That's great for you, but just because you don't see it doesn't mean the facts are no longer reality.

There is no "racial and political war" over Caitlin. She is extremely popular and controversial opinions about her generate interactions on social media from people like you. I am aware of all the storylines. When you say that your interactions on social media are reality shows that you don't understand social media and the attention economy.
Try listening to what Caitlin says about social media. She doesn't need you defending her online. She's actually doing quite well.

Well, that's your opinion, and you have the right to think so. I respect it, but that's not how things work. What I wrote has nothing to do with Caitlin's popularity or what the general public thinks of her. It's about the narratives created by the WBB community, which may not be important to you or have any influence on someone your age. But denying the power of social media influence on 16, 17, and 18y girls... well, this is not knowing how the world works today. Narratives often have more power than reality. And my comment was about that: about created narratives and how they can affect the young girls and their decisions in the recruitment.

Ok, but maybe tone down the hyperbole. There are a bunch of impressionable 60+ men on this board that think everything they read on Facebook is true.

FWIW, I fit in that 60+ category amd I'm not impressionable. My experience has taught me to only believe what I see. Reading or hearing I nelieve very little. I do not have a facebook, X or any other account. I try to keep my business to myself. There are numerous studies that discuss the negative impact of the internet and gaming.

The list of Iowa's 14 offers in the 2027 class . This list is two months old, so it may be missing some recent offers.

I agree with her completely. We always want to choice number 1 for the best iowa girls

With recent visits from Altenburg (this past weekend) and Seubert, seems like Iowa is being more attentive/showing more interest in regional recruits in the '27 class.
