Fun fact: comparing a year's offense to the previous year's is not an outlier. It is simply directly comparing numbers. Especially in a situation where a new coordinator is hired and we can compare numbers from his first year to the year before he arrived.

None of this is a gotcha or cherry picking. It's posting actual statistical facts to give us an idea of how the offense is progressing under a new coach. You have to be mentally unwell to think otherwise.

So you don't know what an outlier is. Maybe you should look it up.

'23 was an outlier. Comparing anything to an outlier doesn't show anything of any significance. This can't possibly be difficult to understand.

That fact that the offense also progressed for reasons other than new coach also diminishes the signifance of the comparison.

Same reasons why '23 was never an accurate depiction of offenses at Iowa. Of course, those who know what an outlier is understand this

Sorry everyone that this thread was derailed by someone who suffers from ODS. I just wanted to have a reference as we monitor the offense's improvement over the course of the season. Like all of you, I want to see the offense succeed, in every position and every stat. Hopefully that's the case as we cheer on Mark, Lester, and the rest of the guys as they continue to fight the narrative about our offensive output. My advice: ignore the retard and cheer for Iowa.

How does comparing '24 to '23 provide a reference for improvement in this season?

The players "fight" to win. You're the one with OND (Obsessive Narrative Disorder)

It's the middle of the season, so it's time to take a look at the offense's production so far. The OP has been updated. You can read the stats here too. Passing is up across the board, and our average points per game is now above 30! Rushing is slightly down, but our TD percentage is slightly up, likely thanks to Mark.

We are only 2 yards lower for total offense per game.

Iowa is currently ranked the 53rd ranked offense in the country. Only two spots behind Georgia, and 12 spots above the Cyclowns!

The doom and gloom crowd is going to hate actual statistics that show improvement. All they want to do is bish and moan and yell, fire Kirk.

Nice work. I think it would be even more valuable if you updated the first page with 2025 stats right with the 2023 & 2024.

Thanks! I'll likely do that at the end of the season. Due to how the cells work on this forum, it's kind of a pain to edit them with all of these numbers.

Couldn't care less about the offensive stats. Haven’t even looked at them.

And yes, 4-2 is the primary offensive stat.

So why post here?

So you do care about offensive stats? Good job playing yourself, f*cking moron lmao
I posted in this thread to contribute my thoughts. Why else?

Iowa's record is what I care about and what sums up my thoughts on the matter. Not stats. And certainly not offensive stats.

And since you seem confused, I posted that 4-2 is the primary offensive stat, in response to your claim that 4-2 is not an offensive stat. Doesn't mean that I care about offensive stats. The intention behind my original post has been laid out above. But hey, you've made much larger leaps before

4-2 is not an offensive stat. I will agree with you insofar as the goal is to win games, not to pile up stats. BUT, offensive improvement should make winning easier as long as the Hawks continue to play good D and ST.

Agree with everything here.

But I stand by team record being the primary offensive stat. Same for D and ST.

And same for every player and coach. Their primary grade is the team's record.

That's just the way I look at it

When you say you don't care, that directly correlates that you have nothing to contribute. Which you didn't. You posted random, arbitrary numbers without specifying that it was Iowa's record. A record is not an offensive stat, as defined by me. My thread, my rules.

Incorrect. That is your definition of an offensive stat, not mine. Therefore it is not considered in my overall stats posted, as established in my OP.

You specifically said you couldn't careless about offensive stats. Yet you claim our record IS an offensive stat. Therefore you do care about offensive stats, according to your personal definition of an offensive stat.

Congrats on owning yourself, f*cking moron lmao

I have now re-read this a couple times and my brain cells are dying. Why are you even here trying to contribute your "thoughts"? Please, for the love of Hayden Fry, stop sharing any of this nonsense.

So at what point does Iowa do bad enough that you stop posting their win-loss record?

To me, this seems like a good thing.

Our ppg is a legit offensive ppg because the D really hasn't done much this year in the way of turnovers to give us a lot of short fields. Even towards the end of BF's tenure as OC, the D was either scoring directly for him or continuously giving him short fields and he still couldn't score. Tim has really impressed me with his ability to put points on the board, especially in the red zone.

You honestly think I'm boasting about 4-2, lmao?

How about the current basketball threads, where I've posted 0-0. You think I'm sticking my chest out about that record?

4-2 is how I grade this team. Not by offensive numbers

Again........moving the goalposts. The f*** is wrong with you. If Iowa is 5-7, your *** isn't gonna be spamming "5-7" as a snarky, dismissive quick response to people. Sit down.

"But Iowa's not gonna go 5 and-"

It's a hypothetical, you old f***ing fart. And since you won't admit to doing that, I'm telling everyone what you would do if Iowa went 5-7 (or what you wouldn't do)..............again, sit down.

No one cares. It's football season.
I grade this team not by offensive numbers
And that's why we laugh at you, justifiably.

P.S. "you are what your record says you are" is in the same boat as the transitive property. Sure they're ways to measure and evaluate teams...........but it's nowhere near the best ways, because they don't tell the whole story.

Context matters. Pretty sure we've had this conversation about context before.

I think Mark's toughness with his running ability have been a huge help for us on both third downs and redzone situations. Lester has utilized it well.

I explained my reasoning for posting the record. Your hypothetical happens to be wrong. Anyone familiar with me from the previous board can tell you I've been doing this for years (which has included posting some losing records in basketball). Again, why do you think I'm posting 0-0 in the basketball rankings threads? If you don't want to believe my intention behind the posts, I can't help you.

Context does not matter to me. Record does. If context is actually important to you, I feel sorry for you
