No surprise Franklin was fired. Friday night officials from Penn State flew to DC to meet with Matt Rhule. From all indications the meeting went well and seems like he will be the next coach for us. Pat Kraft and Rhule were best friends at Temple so no surprise he is bringing Matt home. Railoa should also be coming with him to get us back into the playoffs next year.

talked to my source. Pat Kraft spoke to Rhule Friday in DC but has decided he wants a proven winner. Matt Rhule will NOT be coaching in Happy Valley

After a Career in Corporate America nothing to much surprises me. Matt has a great spot at Nebraska to build HIS program. There’s a real Career at Nebraska. He has all the tools to be successful.

It would be great to go home…but it hardly ever works out. When Coaches go back to their Alma Mater there are so many off the field distractions and pressures to deal with, they are very rarely successful.

Not saying Rhule wouldn’t go to Penn State, I can sure see the attraction. But the pressure points, risks and expectations will be different in Happy Valley.

Ruhle does not have a 50 million buyout~ unless we fire him which will not happen. Zero chance. We will not fire the first coach we have had with a pulse since Bo got canned.

The buyout is 5 million. And Ped State would pay it, not Matt. Forget the Meyer and Saben rumors. They are too old. And want no part of locking horns with OSU. Cignetti would surely be their #1 choice. And Ruhle would be a second or third choice depending on who else they have in mind. Look for our AD to offer and extension to Ruhle soon. If he takes it, then we will know he really does enjoy life in Lincoln. He played at Penn State so if they come calling you never know. As well ran as Penn State is, they surely must know who they want and that they can get him. They would be idiots to pull an Eichorst and have no clue who they want to bring in.

Twitter is really quiet from the NU side. You’d think Rhule would be making some sort of statement or the athletic department. Certainly the NU media would be making calls

Would hate to see us have to start over again, but oh well. Rhule has pattern of leaving after year 3 so don’t be surprised.
Who do you think Dannen has on his short list?

If Rhule gets an offer soon from PSU he should do us a favor and leave immediately. Let Dana Holgerson be interim HC, give us plenty of time to find who we want not be left scrambling in December

Nice try but you don't talk to coaches directly who are under contract unless you want bans and death penalties for your program. You go through back doors and talk to agents in secret, nice try.

Raiola not following Rhule. He is Nebraska legacy not Rhule follower. If he leaves Nebraska it will be for a better opportunity and that won’t be Penn State.

That is a good point. Rhule never seems to stick around long.

So you think at age 61 Urban Meyer is too old to coach if he wants to? LOL Saban bowed out in his 70's as much because he know longer owns the biggest bag to get players there and other schools have narrowed the gap in that area.

If Dannen offers Matt an extension, he's a fool.

If you read most of the posts on their board they are and would be. They are grasping at straws right now and we all know what that's like because we went through it decades ago with Solich and they are about to experience the same pain.

I don't know why all the hand wringing if Rhule stays or leaves.
He's a grown a*s man, let him do whatever he feels is best for him.

If the rap on Franklin is that he can't win the big one, there's something to be said for at least getting your team to the big one. Matt hasn't mastered that yet.

CBS is reporting Rhule is their #1 target.

First of all I made the biggest mistake of responding to the goof who just joined today at 3:56PM, BIG MISTAKE! Things happen in life that we have control over and many things we don't and what ever happens to PSU will happen good or bad and that's on them. Matt Rhule is Nebraska's HC now and for the for the foreseeable future I believe. I just don't see him changing jobs at this point and the fact is the PSU job is kind of toxic right now and I just don't see a lot of high profile coaches rushing in for it.

Why would they "fly out" to meet in DC?

Just face time or zoom. Why create a situation where more people would get wind of things?

If Matt were as media savvy as he thinks he is, he should go on his X account and say something like, "Penn State is a great university with a rich football history. For the right coach it is a great opportunity. However, I am and will continue to be the Nebraska head football coach for many years. I wish Penn State well in their new coaching job search, but building Nebraska to its former great heights is my number one priority. Go Big Red!!"

Now, silence from Matt could be tricky. Even if he is going to stay at NU and doesn't want or isn't offered the job, he is such a publicity who*e he likely will love all the attention. If NU has a big year, 9-3 or better, its very unlikely Matt leaves Nebraska. But, he will love to string along the possibility that he is a candidate, even if he knows he's not. I'll see how this ages.....LOL
