I like the way you position your views however, you sound like a loser as this post is indicative of someone's view that accepts the status quo. Somewhere along the way, your ancestors had the balls to cross the Atlantic because the rejected the status quo so what happened to you? Maybe, just maybe it's you and people like you that should go away. In every competitive endeavor known to man, the object is to win. You simply can't have it both ways; mediocrity is acceptable vs just win baby
I prefer the 'just win baby' crowd as those cats are generally going places more often than not

Greg himself has said he plays not to make mistakes, the ball is the program, there is more to winning than just the scoreboard in each game. That is not a 'just win baby' attitude by any stretch
Fans like yourself don't seem to demand accountability for a program that is behind it's peer group looks to be falling further in the foreseeable future.

so before you tell people they are not fans and should leave, maybe it's you who should?

just a thought
Nailed it

But you guys ARE cool with it. Because you are still here.

You are posers who think demanding winning is a "thing" that make you look like a "winner".

It makes you "whiners".

But, go ahead, keep it up. You accomplish a lot that way.

You look at the hot teams and say, oh, we should have hired that coach. And during coaching searches your answer is always buy the highest-priced guys... knowing you won't get that.. so you can go on bitching next season. And just, rinse-repeat.. we lose a couple games and there you are in your element.. looking for the hot coaches on hot teams and saying, we shoulda hired THAT guy... our guy is a bum, he won't ever get it done.

You're the type of guys who wanted GS1.0 gone in 2003... then again in 2004 when our CBS got taken out by a drunk driver.. But no excuses, right? Then we go to a bowl in 2005 and have a great season in 2006 and win a bowl game in the first time ever. Oh yeah.. that was year 6. GS 2.0 has already been to a bowl. And we are in a tougher conference.

Let the man work and stop yer BITCHIN'.\

**I will give you the Illinois game comment.. when your foe is making a mistake (long FG) LET HIM.. icing him.. late.. letting them see him fail.. STUPID... but, still, giving up that TD or even a completion there to allow a closer FG.. that is on the D.

But he had us in position for a win vs a ranked Big Ten team.. I've been here a long time.. and that's not nothing. You imagine the best for us.. but that is not what history tells us is possible. I think we have to improve in stages.. long painful stages... GS1.0 left for a dream NFL job and what happened to us? Nothing good... despite so many fans demanding a winner. That is reality.

Willie the Silent has a lot to say about others.

No, some of us are NOT cool with it.

YOU are an ENABLER of mediocrity.

YOU are painting with a broad brush with all of your statements.

There is a good number of "good fans' who want more than mediocrity. Dare we wish for 8, 9 or even a 10 win season once in a while?

Dare we want to beat a team we are not supposed to beat?

The man says he does not read the press or what the fans have to say.

Had us in a position to win and winning are two different things

Accept that some good fans are not complacent and want more.

And be silent, Willie.

I'm losing brain cells reading his drivel
It's like listening to a crackhead trying to rationalize his habit while having no intention of getting better
Thankfully for us, Tate & Kelli have high aspirations and aren't ok w/the status quo

Today I learned that being a good Rutgers fan means accepting we almost did great things, we were in a position to do great things, but cocked it up. We look back fondly on those missed opportunities and colossal blunders and have warm feelings over how we almost won the big game.

GTFOH. I'm tired of all the losing. Yeah I'm crazy for being an 18 year season ticket holder and having nothing to show for it but a damaged liver and memories of games we almost won. It sucks.

Gonna take a while.

I can understand some fans being comfortable with where RU is and not being a laughing stock that it was under Ash a nd the last couple years of Flood. I can also understand their fear of hiring someone different and becoming a laughing stock again.

Both types of fans can coexist without one telling eh other they should be quiet.

6:30 PM EST. Big 10 Network.

It took 35 posts, but someone finally answered the question in the original thread title, lol.
Thanks, now I can go to sleep

Predictably, A simple question becomes a discussion on the game
itself, the state of the program, and where we are in the
universe

I'll say this as simply as possible: I do not want to lose what progress we have made for some dream that we can make a coaching hire that will bump us up to the next level. I think Schiano can get us closer to where we all want to be. Meanwhile, there are both those who hold a grudge against Schiano and those who pretend to be fans but are not, they just show up to spread misery. If I have mistaken someone in this thread for one of those, I apologize. But you all know they are out there. And I do not think piling on Schiano or any failures now helps anything. And I can see my rhetoric against such attacks has had the opposite effect. It has recruited true fans to defend such negative whinery. /out

Not even Bill Bellichick, who seems will be available soon and has ties to the program? ;)
I'm not one of those people you are referring to. I like Greg and the job he has done. But in the next 2 years (this year and next), he will start to lose support from more fans if he does not do better in the winnable/losable games and/or knocks of 1 or 2 "better" teams.

Can you imagine buying out GS contract, plunking down Belicheck money and contract demands and getting.. THAT? UNC might survive that.. but Rutgers? If fans are pissed now what would then be then.. and after buying out Bill and signing.. what? A HS coach to take over, the only we could afford?

When we had Ash and no thoughts about GS coming back I suggested we go the really cheap route for juist that reason.. try young up and comers for whom no other Big Ten team would risk it.. give him low pay with big incentives.. and if it doesn't work out walk away in 3 years and roll teh dice again until we find a winner... then pay up to keep him. Yeah.. GS 1.0 would not have survived that process.. but if he knew that was the process.. Maybe he would have cared more about winning early rather than training his players in a system. There were clear signs that this was what he was doing.. and it worked.. eventually. These days with easy transfer and NIL, there is no training them up anymore... I do wonder if GS can adjust.. or if the rules can adjust to make CFB more stable.

Bill is following the Coach Prime Year 1 model.

Agree that both types of fans can, and do, exist
What's not cool is when someone dares to question St. Gregory and immediately gets lambasted as not being a real fan and defends the guy to the enth degree

I've lauded his accomplishments countless times on here and have great appreciation for what he's done OTB
But this is a results-oriented business - and the only result that really matters are Wins

Apology accepted, we're all fans and want the team to succeed
Grateful for all Greg has done and given us, but his ceiling vs. our potential don't match up
