Really bad play calling by Penn State at the end of the game.
That no gain pass in the flat with very little time left was a terrible play call or QB decision.

Nah, if he wins out (beat OSU) he is fine, He has at least another game he can lose in his back pocket, I don't see Penn State firing him if he goes 10-3. Heck even 9-4 might be good enough for them.

Of course we can do our share to make his seat even hotter heh-heh.

Have to believe Franklin is toast. When he's calling out the travel time (PA to CA) in his post game press conference as a reason for the loss it's time to move on.
James has excuses for his excuses after every loss and never takes a shred of responsibility. Look for him to find a scapegoat goat for their losses and fire that person.

There is no coach I loathe more than James Franklin. He's a classless asshat and a legend in his own mind. State Penn's loss to UCLA was made all the richer by the associated Schadenfreude because it came while Franklin was at the controls.

I just watched it. Big part of the victory was QB running for over 120 yards and 3 TDs, many on broken plays. It’s amazing he could do that against PSU’s D when he couldn’t do that against us or even New Mexico. Stone won’t be running for 120.

I’m concerned with PSU fighting for its postseason life and Franklin fighting to get off the hot seat, they are not going to let up on the scoreboard to make a statement. I suspect the spread reflects that prediction.

He's 1 and 15 against top ten teams and just lost to a winless team that NU beat. He also never wins the Big Ten, and he won't again this year. The only reason he will remain there after this season is his 50 million dollar buyout. He was and always has been a jerk.

More seriously, I hope our O is putting some twists in. By which, I do not mean a few trick plays. More of a schematic wrinkle or two which will exploit their weakness in making in-game adjustments. UCLA did exactly that, in about 3 days.

Good try. Anyone remember when we kept beating Vandy (when Franklin was there)? Then one summer he cancelled the NU/Vandy game, leaving a hole in our schedule we had to fill with very little time. High standards, that guy...
He won 9 games at Vandy in back to back years. They hadn’t won 9 games since 1916.

Oh no, with James Franklin NU might not beat top 10 teams or win a national championship?

Of course they won't, and neither will Penn State. Hopefully, the idiot will stay at PSU for a long time and continue to lose to good teams and never win Big Ten championships. We would never want this guy at NU. How he ever landed the PSU job is beyond me. The 'Cats beat him when he was at Vanderbilt. and Franklin decided to cancel the game in Evanston. Franklin can get anybody he wants into Penn State, but that would not be the case at NU. Gary Barnett, Randy Walker, and Pat Fitzgerald he is not!

Mindless nonsense from an obvious troll.
On the contrary, I think you are completely high to think NU shouldn't consider Franklin if he's available (which he won't be). I very strongly dislike him as well, but his record of significantly raising the water level at all his stops speaks for itself. I'll take a string of 9 win seasons at the cost of not much liking the guy. I suspect you'd all learn to live with him if he brought a winning record to NU, too.

Forde Yard Dash has a mention of Franklin going to NU if it’s available… 🤔

(Franklin could perhaps relocate to Wisconsin, but let’s presume a vacancy there might be filled by Jim Leonhard or Pat Fitzgerald. Or he could go to Northwestern, should it open. But if he can’t beat the Big Ten’s best at Penn State, he’s not going to do it there.)

It just makes a lot of sense in all the traditional ways, despite our distaste for him over the Vandy bruhahahs. He has experience in the Big Ten. He's won everywhere he's gone. He's a recruiter. He has experience at academically challenging schools and won there. Vandy was the furthest south he's ever coached, he's coached everywhere over the entire northern middle of the country so he's in a lot of our recruiting zones. He's recruited nationally at his last two jobs, which NU always needs a little bit of.

This is a silly argument because, once again, he's not going to just be available like that because he's not getting first with that buyout, but come on people, if we were actually sitting there and staring at a choice of James Franklin or some G5 OC... the option is compelling.
