So the season, which just started is now half over. October football!

Lots that we learned and lots to learn.

1 - That Maine is not only a state but in a state. I know I didn’t know.
2 - That the lost art of the on sides kick was found this past week in St Charles
3 - That Zion Benton is greatly improved but still may miss the playoffs
4 - That althoff and Chicago Christian are seeing how the other half lives
5 - that very quietly Glenbard West is making a state title run.
6 - That a revival is underway in Bolingbrook and Oswego East was its latest victim.
7 - That the GBN GBS rivalry is not what it used to be in football
8 - That Morris is really good - Again
9 - That Naperville Central is not your grandfathers Naperville Central
10 - That even more quiet than GBW is Yorkville doing things.

All for now will have actual playoff qualifiers next week

12 The Lincoln-Way District 210 schools have one loss combined for Central, East and West….if they don’t play each other undefeated thru 5 weeks.

That Eville might be a tough out in 7a. Hill-Lomax/Frye/Hasquin are going to be really tough to match up with. Season was on the line Friday vs East and they barely squeaked by. But I could see them winning a few games in the playoffs.

WB6 edition

Moline: Looking and playing like a juggernaut now on both O and D. Probably already conference champ as they have beaten the 3 teams in 2nd currently.

Quincy: That reality check came reeeeaaaaaaaal hard.

Sterling: Handled business against Galesburg. Looks to be firing on all cylinders.

Geneseo: Tough come from behind win puts them solidly in the mix for a playoff spot.

United Township: Second week in a row of falling apart after a great start.

Galesburg: Might not win another game the rest of the way with a tough back part of the schedule.

Rock Island: Was beating up Alleman a corner turning event? Or just beating up on a small school?

Alleman: I hate saying this, but I'm not sure they survive their next 4 games.

Both Central and West have yet to host undefeated Bradley-Bourbonnais during the next 3 weeks. Central gets first taste this Friday.

The RB that went down

that kid was a stud, I thought for sure that he would get a decent offer by year end

2 - That the lost art of the on sides kick was found this past week in St Charles -> Batavia should have fair caught the onside kick, rules allowed it

1) you can't fair catch a pop-up kick
2) pop-up kicks are illegal in high school

Hmmm, it's interesting they made a rule in regards to what's supposed to already be a dead ball
From the video - and I put a caveat on this, it “looks” like a pop kick. By rule, the play should’ve been immediately blown dead. The officials on the receiver line in 7-man mechanics are looking for just that. Especially in a situation where everyone knows an on side kick is coming that has to be a key.

again it’s a video from a video.

While we are at it can someone explain the touchback rule to me on kickoffs? Does the ball have to crosss the plane? What if the returners feet are in the endzone but the ball doesnt cross?

So if the returner is in the end zone but the ball hasn’t crossed the plane, he can return it. One the ball crosses the plane, much like a TD, it is a touchback to the 20 yard line.

I could argue right/wrong calls all day, but I could easily point out this crews flawed mechanics multiple times in the game. For example, is a line judge now responsible for calling PI 10 yards deep in the middle of the field.

Without seeing it that’s hard to say.

That MC junior Yoshua Bullock, #65, is an animal at DT. That Landon Carter, #66, is also playing notably well.

Found it….

“A pop-up kick is a free kick in which the kicker drives the ball immediately into the ground, the ball strikes the ground once, and goes into the air in the manner of a ball kicked directly off the tee.”

Height is irrelevant.
