We'll be cracking open a bottle of this at our tailgate on Sunday.
Have you tried it yet? Spoke to a bartender that has and he said it was "good surprisingly." Not sure if that is a ringing endorsement. Because he said he was more of a beer tequila drinker.

Nope. The bottle I picked up when I met Eric at his meet and greet at Costco went into the tailgate bar. My crew knows it will be there.

I agree. It is good, surprisingly.

I say "surprisingly", because this is a licensing/charity deal; Eric is not distilling whiskey. I feared that the company producing the whiskey would have taken the cheapest swill they could find and slapped a Legrand label on it, figuring that people would buy it anyway.

But this is a very solid mid-tier bourbon. I guess I really shouldn't be surprised. Eric put his name on it, and he drinks it (at least he did at a tasting I attended). He probably tasted a bunch of bourbons before selecting the one he was willing to endorse. He made a good choice, and I've gone through a couple of bottles since I first tried it earlier this spring.

Yes that was my fear. Bad juice in the bottle because of the story.

I attempted to go to a bottle signing tasting but had the wrong night on my calendar. Embarrassed to show up a day late. Hahahah. No bottles available to buy after so that was a positive sign.

Commercial distillers (and I won't name this one, out of respect to Eric, but it's one of the largest) will always provide options to their contract customers, varying things like mash bill and aging. It's not unusual for them to have a dozen or more bourbons in the ricking house to select from.

BIL brought a bottle to a family gathering and I agree. Thought it was mild but smooth.

has anyone tried this? how is it?

Since I can't read twitter at work, no idea what was posted by TT. But we have a bottle of LeGrand in our tailgate bar - actually it's the 3rd bottle we've had since last year. It's pretty decent.

I'll pick up two bottles; 1 to keep and 1 to drink!

I buy the standard issue LeGrand whiskey fairly regularly to mix with Ginger Ale. The higher octane release that came out later isn't for me. If you're a bourbon snob, you're not likely to drink this neat or on the rocks.

This new release with the Rutgers label will be purchased for display purposes. Eric is a marketing genius!

I despise scotch so I couldn't say definitively. But I understand the question and would say it's a step up from that. Let Spanky chime in on this at some point. He's the Scotch Guru.

We actually sip it at the tailgate with a splash of water or with a cube. I'm a single malt scotch guy, but it's pretty good. I wouldn't rank it up there with some of the high quality bourbons I've had, but it's good enough that we replace when we empty it.

Interesting mash bill on this variety: 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% barley. Plus it's bottled at 92 proof, a little above the normal 85 or so.

I may have to pick this up. Mostly for display as I rarely drink hard liquor anymore.
The best Bourbon I’ve ever had- and I didn’t see what he poured, but on an OV to GaTech- Chan Gailey(Cowboys, GaTech, Bills) had a house party and asked me to join him in his study…poured 2 bourbons from a decanter- neat, and we just talked football and life for about 20 mins sipping our drinks. Back then, I was a big scotch guy but this bourbon was like silk.

as for Eric- I support anything he does!

awww.. didn't know there was a 2nd blue label bottle.. just the original bottle and now this one. I'd offer an opinion on the first bottle if I were any judge of anything spirits-wise. Sorry.

The new Scarlet Knight bourbon will be served at three home football games, as well as in the premium areas fore both basketball games and wrestling matches. It will also be available throughout the state of New Jersey at liquor stores, bars and restaurants.

Will definitely keep an eye out for the bottle locally, would like to pick one up.
